PBR/DSP 17U Classic



Below is a compilation of scouting notes throughout the PBR/DSP 17U Classic from June 30-July 3....

St. Louis Naturals

Elijah Richeson, OF, Festus, 2017
Uncommitted. Currently ranked 47th in the state of Missouri. 6-foot-3, 190-pound athletic solid frame. Offensively, left-handed hitter, slightly open set-up, pre pitch rhythm. Showed spray all over the field. Defensively, played centerfield. Had feel. Interesting 2017 follow.

Tommy Kraus, LHP, St. John Vianney, 2017
Uncommitted. Currently ranked 204th in the state of Missouri. Smaller frame, still room to grow. Had feel along with mound presence. Fastball sat 76-80 with some run away from a right-handed hitters barrel. Breaking ball sat 66-68 with tight movement and potential to be put out pitch. Will use in any count. Impressive 2017 left-handed pitcher. Final line 7 IP, 1 R, 4 H, 3 K, 3 BB.

Top Tier-Hoffman

Clay Thompson, Andrean, OF, 2018
5-foot-10, 165-pound, projectable frame with room to fill in. Left handed hitter. Even set up, good balance in stance. Line drive type hitter. Spray hitter. Singled in the first while hitting in the three-hole. Defensively, played left field. Had feel tracking down balls. Also showed strong arm while holding a runner tagging from second.

Peoria Diamond Devils

Alex Skibba, Peoria Notre Dame INF/P, 2017
Currently ranked No. 126 in the state of Illinois.  5-foot-11, 160-pound projectable frame with room to fill in. Offensively, even set up, loose hands, pre pitch rhythm with a strong swing for size. Showed pull-side pop, doubled deep to left field along with a deep fly out to left. Showcased well defensively at shortstop. Smooth with quick hands and showed a strong arm making a play deep in six-hole. Upside for 2017 two-way prospect.

Mizuno Northern Indiana Elite

Jackson White, Eastside, RHP, 2017
6-foot-2, 205-pounds with a solid frame. Showed feel and presence on the mound. Fastball sat 78-81 with two-seam action. Breaking ball sat 69-71 with late break. Put out pitch was change up at 66-68 with fastball arm speed and sink. Threw a complete game shutout. 

Fastball USA

Jack Mizgalski, RHP, Sycamore, 2017
Thin, lanky frame. On the mound works from a high ¾ arm angle with a short, quick arm action. Tall and fall, online delivery. Fastball worked 78-82 mph with cutting action. Slider is a solid offering at 72-74 mph with late breaking action.

Ian Renger, 3B, Lake Park, 2017
Had a big day at the plate for Fastball collecting three hits with a double and four RBIs.

CJ Deshazer, SS< Conant, 2017
5-foot-9, 150-pound switch hitting shortstop with a thin, athletic frame. Quick bat, with loose hands, showed feel for the barrel and good pitch recognition skills. Moves well on the base paths.

DTA Wildcats

Michael Bieterman, C, Aurora Central Catholic, 2017
6-foot-2, 190-pound right-handed hitting catcher with a strong frame. Showed well behind the plate in game. Strong, accurate arm. Threw behind runner at second for a pick off. At the plate hits from a tall, open stance. Short, uphill swing path.

Zach Rupp, C, St. Charles East, 2017
Had a solid game at the plate for DTA. Went 2-3 with an RBI.

Evan Nieslawski, 2B, Oak Park-River Forest, 2017
6-foot-1, 175-pound right-handed hitting second baseman. In game went 1-3 with a big two run double.  

Crystal Lake Bombers

Griffen Bright, 2B, Crystal Lake South, 2017
5-foot-11, 145-pound right-handed hitting second baseman. Went 2-3 in gamw with two stolen bases and a run scored.

Indiana Braves

Tarron Lawson, C, 2018
Athletic build, solid catcher body. At the plate, even set up, pre pitch rhythm. Shot a single at the left fielder and lined a ball at the third basemen showing hard contact to his pull side. Defensively, showed feel behind the plate. Pop time ranged from 2.14-2.26.

Rambling Titans

Kyle Donahue, INF, 2017
Uncommitted 2017 infielder. 6-foot-2 195-pound with an athletic, solid build. Showcased a strong day at the plate. Open stance, short leg kick, with a low hands set up. Shot a single to left also with a very deep line out showing pull side pop. Defensively, showed a strong arm from shortstop with good hands. Good 2017 follow.

Neil Udelhofen, LHP, Loyola Academy, 2016
Uncommitted 2016 prospect. 5-foot-10, 175-pound with an athletic build but still room to fill in. Controlled the game well, mound presence. Fastball sat 80-84 with some effort but great feel. Showed a sharp breaking ball with 1-7 action and feel that sat 70-72. Top uncommitted 2016 pitcher.

Thundercat Baseball

Brennan Dolwick, LHP/1B, Lake Mills, 2018
Ranked 34th in the state of Wisconsin. 6-foot-2, 190-pound with a lengthy but athletic build. The two-way prospect showed on the mound and at the plate. At the plate, open set up with steady hands, and strong swing. Showed pull-side pop by shooting a double in the right center gap. On the mound, high ¾ arm slot, very quick arm action with some effort. Fastball sat 80-83. Curveball was 61-63 with depth, would use during any count. Good 2018 follow.

Elite 9

Jack Baxter, INF, 2017
Smaller frame, solid build. Offensively, open set up, hands start low, pre pitch rhythm, strong swing for size. Singles type hitter. Defensively, second base type player. Smooth, good feet, average arm. Interesting 2017 follow.

Rockford Baseball Academy

Jayce Warkentein, LHP/OF, 2017
Uncommitted. 6-foot, 180-pounds with a solid athletic frame. The left-handed hitter showed feel at the plate. Even set up, pre-pitch rhythm, strong swing. Sprayed the ball to all fields. Shot a breaking ball at the left fielder. Defensively, played centerfield. Made a diving catch covering a lot of ground with a great jump on the ball. Also showed a very strong arm by trying to throw a runner out from very deep center. Showed above average speed all over the field as well. Ran a 4.33 on a ground out to second. Also showed feel on the base paths by taking an extra base on an over throw. Impressive 2017 prospect.

Strike Zone

Tanner Williams, RHP, Hartland Arrowhead, 2017
Uncommitted, two-way prospect. Athletic solid build. Hit lead-off. Open stance, smooth pre-pitch rhythm with a short leg kick and a strong swing. Had a line drive single along with two deep fly outs showing power. On the mound, ¾ arm action with a quick release. Fastball sat 81-84 mph. Breaking ball was 69-72 mph with slurve type action. Showed feel for breaking ball, using in any count. 2017 follow.

APEX

Kyle Freel, RHP, 2017
6-foot-1, 200-pound with an athletic strong build. ¾ arm slot with average arm speed. Fastball sat 83-86 with some two-seam action. Breaking ball with 11-5 action sat 73-75, potential to be a putout pitch. Interesting 2017 follow.

U-DAWGS

Rasheed Bernard, INF, 2017
5-foot-7, 160-pound with a small athletic frame. At the plate, showed an even set up, pre-pitch rhythm. Shot a single at the left-fielder. Also showed good speed with a 4.27 to first on a ground out. In the field, played shortstop but more of a second basemen type player. Smooth, good hands. Interesting 2017 follow.

Wisconsin Mash

Will Conard, RHP, Green Bay Preble (WI), 2017
5-foot-11, 160-pound right-handed pitcher with a thin, lanky frame. On the mound works from an over the top arm angle with a quick, live arm action. Drop and drive, online delivery. Fastball ranged anywhere from 83-88 mph. Sat mostly in the 85-86 mph range. Struggled with command of fastball. Curveball has 12-6 shape with depth at 68-70 mph. Will need to shore up command and continue to develop off speed pitches.

ESP Select Red

JR Walsh, SS, Montini Catholic, 2017
5-foot-11, 160-pound left-handed hitting shortstop. Had a two run single and a run scored in the game for ESP.

Nic Malik, C, Montini Catholic, 2017
6-foot, 220-pound right-handed hitting catcher. Went 2-3 in game with a two run single and a double.

Illinois Sparks

Evan Tenuta, RHP, Sandburg, 2018
6-foot-1, 175-pound right-handed pitcher with an athletic frame. Works, from a high ¾ arm angle with a quick, quick arm action. Uptempo, athletic delivery with explosion in the core and hips. Closed landing, creating crossfire action. Fastball sat 83-86 mph. Changeup has cutting action at 76 mph. Curveball has 11-5 shape with short breaking action, occasionally gets on the side of it. Also went 2-4 at the plate with a triple, and a go ahead RBI single.

Zaid Walker, OF, Homewood-Flossmoor, 2018
6-foot-2, 200-pound right-handed hitting outfielder with a strong, athletic frame. Fast bat with looseness in the hands. Stayed back well on a few curveballs, drove one for a line drive an RBI single to left field. Strong, accurate arm from the outfield.

Jake Zylman, C, St. Rita, 2018
5-foot-10, 185-pound right-handed hitting catcher with a strong frame. Defensively receives well with flexibility in the lower half. Flashed some pop at the plate with strength thru contact. Went 1-2 in the game with an RBI single.

Justin Conant, SS, Joliet Catholic Academy, 2018
5-foot-10, 160-pound right-handed hitting shortstop with an athletic frame. Went 2-3 in games with two singles and an RBI.

BNBA Gold

Jake McCaw, 1B, Normal Community, 2017
Illinois State commit. 6-foot-2, 172-pound left-handed hitting first baseman with a lanky frame and room to continue to fill out and add strength. Flashed pullside pop in game with a triple to the corner in right field, and a deep flyout to the fence. Open stance with looseness in the hands.

Matthew Barnes, OF, Bloomington Central Catholic, 2017
5-foot-10, 145-pound right-handed hitting outfielder with an athletic frame. Moves well down the line at 4.43. Went 1-4 in game with a single, stolen base, and a run scored.

Central Illinois Outlaws

Trevor Davis, OF, Morton, 2017
6-foot, 170-pound left-handed hitting outfielder with a lanky, athletic frame. Showed off speed in games. Collected three hits, bunt single, 3.85 down the line. Doubled and tripled as well. Turned a single a routine single to center into a double with his speed. Upright stance at the plate with a short, quick swing path, works the right centerfield gap consistently with good feel for the barrel. Gets out of the box quickly.

Joe Roscetti, SS, Williamsville, 2017
6-foot, 175-pound left-handed hitting shortstop with an athletic frame. At the plate hits from an upright, slightly closed setup. Line drive hitter works gap to gap with a short, uphill swing path. Defensively has a loose arm action, accurate throws with athletic actions. Moves well on the base paths. Had an RBI double in game.

Bandits Elite

Ryan Ternesvary, CF, Bartlett, 2017
Centerfielder who showed range and above average instincts. Fluid actions in the outfield.

29ers

Killian Vasica, C, Burlington Central, 2017
6-foot-2, 220-pound catcher, thick build with strong lower half. Showed above average arm strength, 2.22 pops between innings. Receiving techniques can improve, has strength to be an everyday receiver. Right-handed hitter, showed bat strength with a double to left field off the wall. Also squared up a ball to center.

Noel Rodriguez, OF, Lincoln Park HS, 2017
5-foot-7, 125-pound outfield with speed. 4.02 runner down the line. 

Illinois Patriots Red

+ John Finnegan, C, St. Viator, 2017
6-foot-1, 195-pound right-handed hitting catcher. Impressed behind the plate. Showed flexibility in the lower half in his setup. Receives and blocks well. Balanced setup at the plate, short, uphill swing path. Had a line drive RBI single up the middle in game.

Algonquin JayBirds

+ Daniel Murray, OF, Jacobs, 2017
6-foot-2, 195-pound left-handed hitting outfielder. At the plate hits from an open stance with a high back elbow. Showed strength thru contact with a line dive triple over the centerfielders head in game.


Illinois Edge

+ Zachary Pell, OF, Providence Catholic, 2017
2-for-3 with a pair of doubles down the left field line. Right-handed hitter, pull side approach. 

+ Kevin O'Boyle, OF/C, Providence Catholic, 2017
Strong physical build at 6-foot, 200-pounds. Worked a pair of walks and a hard hit line drive single up the middle. Bat strength.  

+ Michael Deveikis, LHP, Neuqua Valley, 2017
5-foot-11, 185-pound southpaw. Sat 78-80 mph, short arm action, fastball showed occasional finish, mostly straight. Curveball played at 68-70 mph. Flashed a change up at 71 mph.

Top Tier - Hernandez

+ Levi Ransom, OF, Pontiac Township, 2017
Solid build, right-handed hitting outfielder. Played center, looks to project in left. Above average defender and above average arm. College caliber bat, played in game, showed barrel awareness, solid contact guy, showed hard contact to the middle of the field most of the day. 2-for-4 with a triple and a single. 

NAPERVILLE RENEGADES

Steven Anderson, RHP, Metea Valley, 2017
Strong, athletically built right-handed pitcher. Delivery works with rhythm, coiled at balance point and stays on-line. Clean arm action out of a high ¾ window. Three pitches for strikes. Fastball flashed arm-side run and sat 78-81 mph. Curveball worked 11/5 at 64-65 mph. Feel for a changeup at 68-72 mph. Right-handed hitter also went 2-for-2 at the plate with an RBI.

Jeremy Canfield, UTIL, Downers Grove South, 2017
Average frame, right-handed hitter. Went 1-for-2 with a walk. In his final at-bat of the day lined a single to left-field. Flashed a flat bat and quick hands.

CHICAGOLAND PANTHERS

Brian May, SS, Oak Park-River Forest, 2018
Athletic right-handed hitting shortstop. Ran a 4.35 home-to-first on a bunt in his second at-bat of the day. Barrel control type hitter, singled to right in his first at-bat. Defensively, range and body control on the infield. Steady hands and an accurate arm across the diamond.

Sammy Habayeb, Riverside-Brookfield, 2017
Big bodied right-handed pitcher came out of the bullpen. Repeats delivery, lands square and falls off towards first base. Long, clean arm action out of a ¾ slot. Heavy fastball with arm side run and clocked at 78-80 mph. Left-handed hitter, went 2-for-3 with an two-run single and a double.

Chicago Elite

Josh Currier, LHP, Lincoln-Way Central, 2017
Long limbed, projectable frame, 6-foot-4, 170-pounds. Works from the stretch only, long arm action, high 3/4 slot. Lacked repeatability at times. Fastball sat 78-80 mph, flashed good control to his glove side. Breaking ball at 62 mph. 

Billy Mote, SS, University High, 2017
6-foot, 175-pound left-handed bat. Shows good upside with the bat, open setup, loose quick hands, mostly pull side contact. Flashed pop to pull side as well with a home run. Finished 2-for-3 with a HR and 1B. Defensively showed arm strength, athletic enough to project at multiple positions, showing continual improvement with the glove. 

Ken Brokop, RHP, Bradley-Bourbonnais, 2017
6-foot-3, 190-pound right-handed pitcher. Delivery plays with effort, over the top slot, short arm action, flashed arm strength. Fastball topped at 87 mph, ranged 81-86 mph, mostly straight, lacked consistent control. Flashed a breaking ball at 70 mph. 

Connor McCormick, C, Manteno, 2017
6-foot, 155-pound catcher, wiry build. Shows some quick twitch in his hands. Bat speed present, generates above average pop for size. Made hard contact with a 3-4 day with two doubles. Defensively possesses well above average arm strength. 

Illinois Hawks - Peterlin

Austin Pryblinski, SS/RHP, LaSalle-Peru, 2017
Wiry, lean athlete with actions, projectable build. Left-handed hitter, path is short to the baseball, opposite field approach, contact guy showed barrel control and hand-eye. 1-4 with a single. Defensively moved athletically, showed above average actions, arm plays with some carry, above average arm strength. On the mound, fastball sat 81-83 mph, loose quick arm action. Showed a breaking ball at 70-73 mph, average action. 

FORCE ELITE

Harrison Taylor, OF, Wheaton Academy, 2017
Long and lean outfielder with plenty of room of continued physical development. Right-handed hitter, 4.33 down-the-line on a ground ball to second base. Stole second base. Long, fluid, easy runner.

Blake McClung, RHP, Naperville Central, 2017
Right-handed pitcher. Repeatable delivery with rhythm; high front side, stays on-line and lands square. Arm works long and over-the-top. Fastball, mainly straight, tilt when down, clocked at 77-80 mph. Feel for his curveball, worked 11/5 with depth at 68 mph. Flashed one changeup at 75 mph.

Jake Perkins, RHP, Dekalb, 2017
Average build right-handed pitcher. Strike thrower, repeats delivery with regular effort. Slinging arm action from a ¾ slot created arm-side-run to his fastball. Fastball clocked at 78-80 mph. Above-average feel for his breaking ball; thrown in any count, 11/5 shape, sweeping action at times, 62-67 mph.

SCORPIONS baseball

Brian Fuentes, SS, Crystal Lake South, 2017
Right-handed hitting shortstop with a solid, strong build. Offensively, aggressive, gap-to-gap approach. Went 1-for-3 with a triple to dead-center field. Defensively, advanced actions at shortstop, quick transfer and accurate arm.

Jordan Wright, OF, Sycamore, 2016
Columbia (MO) commit. Athletic, left-handed hitting outfielder. Offensively, leadoff hitter with a compact approach. Finished the day 1-for-2 with a line-drive single to left-center field, a walk and stolen base.

Prospects Cardinal

Peter Go, 1B, Heritage Christian (WI), 2017
Extra-large build, 6-foot-2, 235-pound first baseman. Right-handed hitter with some pop. Slightly open stance, big leg kick trigger with deep load. Made hard contact, mostly to the opposite field. Two doubles to right center gap.

Southside Aces

Ryne Travis, 3B/C, Lockport, 2017
Lean athletic shape, left-handed hitting third baseman. Bat played well, showed barrel control all day, quality at bats. Loose hands, flashed some pop, three hits, four runs scored, ability to spray the baseball. Caught, sparingly at the end, flashed a 2.07 pop time.

Austin Franzcak, SS, Tinley Park, 2017
Lender slender build, some projection. Wiry athlete, moves well, light on his feet. Defensively showed above average feet, moved well laterally. Could project in the outfield as well. Right-handed hitter, quick hands, aggressive swing with pop, hard contact, above average bat speed. Went 3-3 with a home run to deep center and a double. 

SLAMMERS 17U

Tyler Wood, SS, Deerfield, 2017
Right-handed hitting shortstop. Offensively, went 2-for-3 with two doubles and an RBI. Drove a ball to the right-center field gap in his first at-bat and hit a line drive down the left field line in his second. Balanced, open setup, short compact stroke. Defensively, flashed steady hands and an accurate arm.

Brant Kym, INF, Libertyville, 2017
Right-handed hitting third baseman with a lean frame. Defensively, made a number of plays on the move. Attacks the baseball, ability to make the run through play; made a bare hand play on a chopper look easy. Flashed a strong accurate arm across the diamond. Offensively, hit in the three hole. Went 2-for-3 with a run scoring triple to deep center field. 4.65 down-the-line.

HARD KNOX ELITE

Cristian Burciaga, 1B, Rochelle, 2017
Big-bodied first baseman. Right-handed hitter, consistent hard contact, easy pop and uses the whole field. Went 3-for-4 with a two-run double to deep left-center field. Simple approach and fluid rhythm throughout.

Anthony Coticchio, C/3B, Belvidere, 2017
Right-handed hitter. Came off the bench and went 2-for-2 including a game-winning RBI single down the left-field line.

WISCONSIN ALL-STARS

Connor Jasurda, RHP, Marshfield, 2017
Lean, wiry, right-handed pitcher. Came out of the bullpen. Drop and drive delivery, some effort, stays on-line and lands square. Long, quick arm action out of a high ¾ window. Fastball works mostly straight, life at times, controls to glove side, 79-83 mph. Breaking ball is go to pitch; maintains arm speed, 11/5 shape, sharp at times, 71-75 mph.

Sam Zarling, RF, Kettle Moraine Lutheran, 2017
Strong right-handed hitting outfielder. Offensively, present bat speed and strength in swing. Stays on top, ability to backspin and hit the ball where it is pitched.

STiKS Academy

Jonah Landowski, LHP, Oconomowoc, 2017
Strong build, 5-foot-10, 180-pounds, sturdy left-handed pitcher. Delivery shows slight effort, short arm action, creates some deception. Fastball topped at 85 mph, sat 81-84 mph, finished well through the zone, created several swing and misses. Curveball thrown aggressively with deception, 68-70 mph, ability to drop for strikes and get chases, swing and miss type offering.
