Preseason All-State: Infield Analysis

Illinois Scouting Staff

Our position-by-position analysis of Illinois’ Preseason All-State event that took place on Sunday, Feb. 11, moves forward today with an in-depth look at the event's infielders.

The group of infielders in this 2019 class has developed a reputation for its depth in the middle of the infield. The prospects atop this list all demonstrated confident actions at their up-the-middle infield positions as well as a propensity for consistent line-drive contact. Of the names on the list that fit that profile are juniors Jalen Greer (St. Rita) and Josh Gibson (O'Fallon). Both have regularly showcased their ability to stick to shortstop. Illinois commit Andrew Kim (Libertyville) has an advanced left-handed bat and put together one of the best rounds of BP at the event.

Brody Harding (Moline, 2019) emerged at the event as someone in a league of his own because of his natural ability to loft the ball that pairs particularly well with his confidence as a defender.

Continue reading to see how this top-ten list shook out and keep an eye on further positional breakdowns and analysis from the Preseason All-State event in the coming days and weeks.
