Preseason I.D - Lockport: Infield Analysis

On Monday we began the positional breakdown from the Preseason I.D. - Lockport Showcase breaking down the catchers from the day. The event analysis rolls on today with a breakdown of the 100+ infielders that were in attendance.

It was quite a task sifting through all of the talent but below we noted the Top 10 from the event along with the best of the rest.

Junior Ryan Ritter made an impression in his first PBR event and continued to prove he is one of the top uncommitted middle infielders in the state. Ritter has advanced defensive actions and hands along with plenty of arm strength to fit in anywhere on the infield.

Freshman Ryan Moerman came in right behind Ritter. Moerman is poised and plays with confidence well beyond his years. Moerman looks to be a high-follow middle infielder in the 2021 class.

TOP INFIELD PROSPECTS

1. Ryan Ritter, INF, Lincoln-Way East, 2019
6-foot-1, 160-pound, lean, wiry, projectable, right-handed hitting middle infielder. One of the top uncommitted middle infielders in the 2019 class. Highly-athletic defensive actions, quick, fluid footwork, ranges well to both sides. Soft, sure hands, ultra-quick release at times. Loose, athletic arm action, ability to throw from multiple angles, throws carry and topped at 87 mph across the diamond. At the plate, balanced, open relaxed setup, smooth load, short stride and maintains balance through contact. Fluid rhythm, loose, athletic hands, creates bat speed, gap-to-gap approach and 80 mph exit velocity from a tee. 7.08 runner in the 60, laser-timed.

2. Ryan Moerman, INF, Lockport, 2021
5-foot-9, 160-pound, athletically built, right-handed hitting infielder. Highly-advanced middle infielder for his age. Plays with confidence and rhythm. Ranges well to both sides, maintains body control on the move, throws from multiple arm angles. Hands are soft and receptive, quick, clean release and accurate arm. Throws topped at 77 mph across the diamond. At the plate, balanced setup, smooth load, short toe-tap trigger. Loose hands, consistently finds the barrel, left in swing and gap-to-gap approach. Registered an 82 mph exit velocity from a tee. Ran a 7.78 laser timed 60 yard dash. High-follow 2021 prospect.

3. Cameron Lee, INF, Lincoln-Way East, 2019
6-foot-2, 160-pound, long, lean, athletically built, right-handed hitting infielder; frame has plenty of room for continued physical development. Defensively, athletic actions, plays with bounce, fluid footwork, ranges well and maintains body control on the move. Soft, confident hands, quick, clean release and throws clocked at 79 mph across the diamond. At the plate, balanced, open setup, quiet load and stride and maintains balance throughout. Simple swing, loose hands, long bat path, spray approach and 85 mph exit velocity from a tee. 7.29 runner in the 60.

4. Nicholas Serr, INF, Minooka, 2020
5-foot-9, 145-pound, athletically built, infielder. At the plate, right-handed hitter, open, athletic setup, stride gets back to even and maintains balance through contact. Fluid rhythm, simple swing, minimal wasted movement, stays short to the ball, uses the middle of the field, line-drive approach; 79 mph exit velocity from a tee. Defensively, natural infield actions, plays under control, fluid footwork. Soft, sure hands, athletic fielding position, clean transfer and made the run through play look easy. Athletic arm action, ability to throw from multiple arm angles, throws clocked at 79 mph across the diamond. 7.39 runner in the 60, laser-timed.   

5. Patrick McCabe, INF, Morris, 2019
5-foot-9, 146-pound, athletic, lean, infielder. Left-handed hitter, athletic, balanced setup, smooth load, short stride and maintains balance throughout. Repeatable swing, loose hands, controls the barrel, line-drive approach, uses the whole field and fluid rhythm throughout. 74 mph exit velocity. Defensively, confident, athletic actions, soft hands, gets deep into the body at times, feet work through the baseball and clean release. Short arm action, high ¾ slot, accurate throws clocked at 74 mph. 7.62 runner in the 60, laser-timed.

6. Luke Fiantago, INF, Prairie Ridge, 2019
5-foot-8, 160-pound, infielder. Impressed with his right-handed bat. Balanced, wide setup, deep load, long knee-knock stride and average balance through contact. Loose hands, present bat speed, easy effort throughout. Level bat path, line-drive, level bat path and fluid rhythm throughout. 81 mph exit velocity off a tee. On the infield, fluid footwork, soft hands, clean transfer. Long arm action, winds up, over-the-top arm action, throws carry across the diamond, clocked at 85 mph. 7.39 runner in the 60.

7. Connor Blake, INF, Plainfield South, 2019
5-foot-11, 175-pound, infielder, lean, athletic build. At the plate, right-handed hitter, balanced setup, long leg-kick timing trigger and maintains balance through contact. Simple swing, flashed occasional bat speed, long bat path, consistent hard contact, line-drive, pull approach and 89 mph exit velocity from a tee. Defensively, ranges well to both sides, maintains body control, fields athletically out in front of his body, soft quiet hands. Clean transfer, short arm action, flicks it across the diamond, throws clocked at 76 mph. 7.55 runner in the 60.

8. Alexander Perez, INF, Hinsdale Central, 2019
5-foot-8, 153-pound, right-handed hitting infielder, lean, athletic frame. 7.06 runner in the 60, laser-timed. Defensively, fluid footwork, athletic actions, soft, sure hands, plays through the baseball and clean release. Short, easy arm action from a high ¾ slot and throws topped at 81 mph across the diamond. At the plate, slightly open, wide setup, heel-lift stride and maintains balance throughout. Fluid rhythm, line-drive approach and 82 mph exit velocity from a tee.

9. Frank Magnelli, INF/RHP, Ridgewood, 2021
6-foot-1, 200-pound, well-proportioned, physically-advanced two-way prospect with present lower half strength. At the plate, balanced, quiet, square setup, leg kick trigger. Present bat speed, uphill bat path, gap to gap approach, showed hard, solid contact with lift; exit velocity topped 89 mph off a tee. Defensively profiles as a third baseman, steady hands, clean exchange, long arm action with a high ¾ slot. Throws were accurate, topped at 74 mph. Ran a 7.51 laser-timed 60. On the mound, right-handed pitcher, tall and fall delivery, closed landing, cross-bodied style, athletic finish. Long arm on back side, slight wrap, clean and quick out front with a high ¾ slot. Fastball had late arm side run, sat 75-77 mph. Curveball, 11/5 shape, gradual break, ranged 66-72 mph. Changeup maintained arm speed, faded, occasional cut, 70-73 mph.

10. Jack Moran, INF, Loyola, 2019
5-foot-9, 150-pound, right-handed hitting infielder. Ran a 6.94 laser-timed 60. On the infield, quick feet, ranges well, maintains body control. Flashed soft hands, plays through the baseball, long arm action, tends to wind up, high ¾ slot, throws carry, 86 mph across the diamond. At the plate, open balanced setup, deep load, leg-lift trigger and effort in swing. Long, uphill bat path, aggressive, looks to lift the baseball, 80 mph exit velocity from a tee.

Caleb Anderson, 1B, Plainfield East, 2019
6-foot, 185-pound, strong, left-handed hitting first baseman. At the plate, balanced slightly open setup, low handset, minimal load and stride gets back to even. Loose, easy swing, stays short to the ball and pull approach; 79 mph exit velocity from a tee. At first base, reliable hands, clean release, throws from a high ¾ slot and throws clocked at 71 mph. 8.07 runner in the 60.

Kyle Anderson, RHP/INF, Minooka, 2020
5-foot-11, 155-pound, lean, two-way prospect with plenty of room for continued physical development. On the mound, right-handed pitcher, tall and fall delivery, works across his body and lands slightly closed at times. Short arm action, high ¾ slot. Fastball flashed slight arm-side-run, 77-78 mph, touched 79. Curveball 11/5 shape, 60 mph. Changeup, sinking action at times, 64-66 mph. At the plate, right-handed hitter, wide, quiet setup, heel-lift stride. Long, uphill bat path and 81 mph exit velocity from a tee. Defensively, reliable hands, quick clean transfer, short arm action, high ¾ slot and throws clocked at 73 mph across the infield.  

Will Anderson, RHP/INF, Prairie Ridge, 2020
6-foot-1, 190-pound, thick, two-way prospect. At the plate, right-handed hitter, wide, crouched setup and toe-tap stride. Present bat strength, occasional hard contact, gap-to-gap approach and 81 mph exit velocity from a tee. Defensively, at first base, plays through the baseball at times, clean transfer, long arm action, high ¾ slot and throws topped at 73 mph. On the mound, right-handed pitcher, drop and drive delivery, works on-line and front foot lands slightly closed. Clean arm action, high ¾ slot with regular effort throughout. Fastball works mostly straight, slight arm-side-run, sat 74-76 mph, topped at 77. Curveball, 11/5 shape, 66-67 mph. Changeup, mostly straight, sink at times, 71-72 mph.  

Gavin Arseneau, INF, Oswego, 2021
5-foot-9, 130-pound, wiry, right-handed hitting, infielder. At the plate, athletic, balanced setup, minimal pre-pitch load and leg-kick timing trigger. Simple, handsy, repeatable swing. Bat stays level through the zone, line-drive approach and fluid rhythm throughout. 75 mph exit velocity from a tee. On the infield, soft hands, fundamentally sound, works through the baseball with a clean release. Long arm action, high ¾ slot and throws clocked at 70 mph across the diamond. 7.71 runner in the 60.  

Bryan Avalos, RHP/INF, Lincoln-Way West, 2020
5-foot-9, 135-pound, wiry, two-way prospect. On the mound, right-handed pitcher, tall and fall delivery, works with rhythm at times and stays on-line. Long, loose arm action, high ¾ slot and regular effort throughout. Fastball, run and sink action, 71-72 mph. Curveball, 11/5 shape, 62-65 mph. Changeup, fade action, 65-67 mph. At the plate, right-handed hitter, balanced setup, short stride and early load. Long bat path stays level through the zone at times and 70 mph exit velocity from a tee. On the infield, clean exchange, throws from a ¾ slot and clocked at 66 mph. 8.14 runner in the 60.

Shane Baumgarten, INF, Wheaton Academy, 2021
5-foot-10, 175-pound, well-proportioned, strong, right-handed hitting infielder. Defensively plays with moxy and rhythm. Quick, fluid footwork, fast hands, under control, clean exchange, with an easy, loose, multi-angle arm slot. Throws across carried with accuracy, topped at 76 mph. At the plate, balanced setup, pre-pitch load with a toe tap trigger. Flashed some ability to create lift and showed pull side tendencies. Bat got through the zone quick with an exit velocity topping 81 mph off a tee. Ran a 7.63 laser timed 60.

Adam Bendoraitis, RHP/INF, Batavia, 2020
5-foot-10, 160-pound, athletically built, two-way prospect. On the mound, right-handed pitcher, tall and fall delivery, lands square, finishes athletically with regular effort throughout. Short arm action, from an over-the-top slot. Fastball works mostly straight, cut at times, down in the zone, 78-80 mph, touched 81.Curveball, 11/5 shape, sharp action, tight spin, depth at times, 66-67 mph. Changeup sat 68-72 mph. At the plate, left-handed hitter, balanced, slightly open setup, quiet in the box and short stride. Aggressive swing, creates bat speed at times, hard contact, extension through contact, pull-side approach; 80 mph exit velocity from a tee. On the infield, steady hands, packs on exchange, loose arm action, low ¾ slot, accurate throws clocked at 78 mph across the infield. 7.68 runner in the 60.

Zachary Blazekovich, INF/P, Joliet Catholic, 2021
6-foot-3, 165-pound, high-waisted, lanky, two-way player. At the plate, tall setup, leg lift trigger, back drop load. Uphill bat path, looks to lift and exit velocity topped 79 mph off a tee. Defensively, long arm action with a  high ¾ arm slot. Throws topped 61 mph across the diamond. Ran a 8.01 laser-timed 60. On the mound, right-handed pitcher, drop and drive delivery, quick, occasionally rushed tempo, open toe landing, falls to third at finish. Long, loose arm action, high ¾ slot, regular effort involved. Fastball was straight, occasional cut, ranged 69-72 mph. Curveball, 11/5 shape, sat 58-60 mph. Changeup showed sink, around the zone, ranged 63-69 mph.

Collin Boyd, 1B/RHP, Yorkville, 2019
6-foot-1, 180-pound, two-way prospect, strong, well-proportioned build. Right-handed hitter, balanced setup, minimal load, short stride. Long bat path and 79 mph exit velocity from a tee. Defensively, at first base, clean transfer, long arm action, high ¾ slot and throws clocked at 75 mph across the diamond. 8.10 runner in the 60. On the mound, right-handed pitcher, works from the first base side of the rubber, deliberate tall and fall delivery, works on-line and finishes upright at times. Long arm action, high ¾ slot. Fastball arm-side-run at times, sat 74-76 mph, topped at 77. Curveball worked 11/5, 67-70 mph. Changeup, maintains arm speed at times, 73-74 mph.  

Asher Bradd, INF, Monticello, 2019
5-foot-9, 150-pound, well-proportioned, right-handed hitting infielder. At the plate, tall, balanced, slightly open setup, pre-pitch rhythm, short leg-lift stride. Loose swing, bat speed, gets extension through contact. Consistent hard contact, line-drive, gap-to-gap approach and 86 mph exit velocity from a tee. Defensively, steady hands, packs on the exchange, loose arm action, high ¾ slot and clocked at 78 mph across the diamond. 7.07 runner in the 60, laser-timed.

Daniel Brannigan, INF/RHP, St. Rita, 2019
6-foot, 220-pound, big-bodied, two-way prospect. At the plate, right-handed hitter, pre-pitch rhythm, smooth load and short stride. Gap-to-gap approach, bat strength and 88 mph exit velocity from a tee. At first base, quick, clean release, short arm action, high ¾ slot and throws topped at 73 mph across the diamond. Ran an 8.25 60. On the mound, right-handed pitcher, delivery works slightly across his body, high front side, regular effort throughout. Short arm action, over-the-top slot. Fastball works straight, sat 75-77 mph. Curveball, 12/6 shape, 60-62 mph. Forkball, knuckle action at times, 65-67 mph. Changeup, ranged between 66-70 mph.

Dylan Buckner, INF, Glenbrook North, 2021
5-foot-11, 155-pound, high-waisted, lean, right-handed hitting infielder. At the plate, balanced setup, smooth back load, short leg lift trigger with rhythm throughout. Hits off front foot at times and utilizes his lower half well. Uphill path and used all fields. Exit velocity topped 74 mph off a tee. Defensively, fluid footwork, reliable hands, long exchange, short, quick arm out of an over the top slot. Throws topped 75 mph across the diamond. Ran a 7.85 laser timed 60.

Joshua Burke, INF/RHP, Notre Dame, 2021
6-foot, 170-pound, athletically-built, right-handed hitting infielder. Balanced setup, pre-pitch load, long leg kick trigger with some rhythm. Short, uphill bat path and showed pull side tendencies throughout. Occasional hard contact and exit velocity topped 79 mph off a tee. Defensively, loose arm, long on the back side, high ¾ slot. Throws flashed carry at 77 mph across. Ran a 7.37 60. On the mound, right-handed pitcher, works in line, sturdy balance point, square landing. Long draw on back side, some arm speed out front with a high ¾ slot. Threw strikes with all three pitches. Fastball had run, occasionally cut, sat 73-75 mph topping 76 mph. Curveball, 11/5 shape, good spin, ranged 60-62 mph. Changeup faded with fastball arm speed, flashed feel for pitch, sat 65-68 mph.

Hunter Burton, INF/RHP, Oak Lawn, 2019
6-foot-3, 220-pound, two-way prospect, durable frame. At the plate, right-handed hitter, balanced setup, short stride and uphill bat path; 82 mph exit velocity from a tee. Defensively, clean transfer at times, short, over-the-top arm action, true ball clocked at 76 mph across the diamond. 7.95 runner in the 60. On the mound, delivery works on-line, lands square with regular effort throughout. Short, over-the-top arm action. Fastball worked straight, occasional tilt, thrown for strikes, 76-78 mph. Nino Christopher, INF/RHP, St. Francis, 2019
5-foot-11, 170-pound, athletically built, two-way prospect. At the plate, tall, slightly open setup, short knee-knock stride. Simple swing, short, level bat path, sprayed balls to all fields. 80 mph exit velocity from a tee. Defensively, steady hands, long exchange, plays tall through release. Long arm action, high ¾ slot, accurate throws clocked at 77 mph across the infield. 8.27 runner in the 60. On the mound, right-handed pitcher, smooth, deliberate tall and fall delivery, slight hesitation at balance point. Arm works loose and out of a high ¾ slot. Fastball thrown for strikes, works straight, sat 76-77 mph. Curveball, 11/5 shape, maintains arm speed at times, 63-64 mph. Changeup, flashed arm-side-run, occasional fade 69-71 mph.

Joe Ciero, RHP/INF, Glenbard West, 2019
5-foot-11, 85-pound, strong, two-way prospect, durable lower half. On the mound, compact, smooth delivery, works on-line, lands square and finishes athletically. Arm works short and quick form a high ¾ slot. Fastball, down in the zone, occasional arm-side-run, 80-82 mph, touched 83. Curveball worked 11/5, maintains arm speed, feel, sat 62-65 mph. Changeup, down in the zone, sinking action, 71-73 mph. At the plate, right-handed hitter, wide setup, pronounced pre-pitch load, short stride. Long, level bat path, flashed bat strength, 82 mph exit velocity from a tee. On the infield, fields athletically, receptive hands. Short, over-the-top arm action, throws clocked at 73 mph. 7.43 runner in the 60.  

Charlie Cmiel, INF/LHP, York, 2021
5-foot-11, 145-pound, lanky, high-waisted two-way player. On the mound, left-handed pitcher, drop and drive delivery, closed landing, cross-bodied style with some athleticism in finish. Long, loose arm action, some quickness out front, high ¾ arm slot with some effort involved. Fastball flashed run, around the zone, 74-76 mph. Slider, 1/7 shape, sat 61-63 mph. Changeup showed some sink with arm speed, 66-69 mph. Offensively, right-handed hitter, balanced setup, back load with a short stride. Long, uphill path, pull side tendencies and exit velocity topped 76 mph off a tee. Defensively, steady footwork, clean exchange, long arm with a high ¾ slot. Throws topped 74 mph across. Ran a laser timed 8.11 60.

Austin Collinson, INF/RHP, Normal West, 2019
5-foot-11, 175-pound, two-way prospect, with well-proportioned strength in frame. At the plate, right-handed hitter, balanced, wide setup, loads into backside and leg-kick trigger. Long bat path, pull approach and strength through contact; 84 mph exit velocity from a tee. On the infield, receptive hands at times, plays through the baseball, winds up on release; long arm action, high ¾ slot, accurate throws, carry across the diamond at 82 mph. 7.48 runner in the 60. On the mound, right-handed pitcher, repeatable delivery, works on-line, lands slightly closed. Long draw out of the glove, comes out of an over-the-top slot. Fastball, thrown for strikes, works mostly straight, sat 80-82 mph. Curveball, 12/6 shape, slows arm at times, 59-65 mph. Changeup, occasional feel, 70-73 mph.

Evan Cook, 1B/P, Minooka, 2021
6-foot-3, 144-pound, long-limbed, lanky, two-way prospect. At the plate, right-handed hitter, open setup, short stride and a minimal back load. Uphill bat path, loose hands flashed solid contact and exit velocity of 75 mph off a tee. Ran a 7.68 laser-timed 60. Defensively, clean exchange, short arm with a high ¾ slot. Throws topped 71 mph across the diamond. On the mound, right-handed pitcher, tilt and topple delivery, works in line, open landing with some athleticism in finish. Short arm action, present arm speed, high ¾ slot with regular effort throughout. Fastball had slight run, in the zone, sat 73-74 mph. Curveball, 11/5 shape, gradual break, 62-64 mph. Changeup maintained arm speed, arm side run, sat 65-68 mph.

Max Cullen, 1B, Joliet Catholic, 2019
6-foot, 165-pound, right-handed hitting first baseman with wiry strength. At the plate, balanced setup, pre-pitch hand rhythm, short leg-lift timing trigger and maintains balance through contact. Simple, strong swing, creates bat speed. Consistent hard contact, gap-to-gap approach and 88 mph exit velocity from a tee. Giovanni Davila, INF, Joliet Catholic, 2020
6-foot, 185-pound, thick, durable lower-half, left-handed hitting infielder. Gehrig Denoyer, INF, Minooka, 2020

Jack Drow, INF, Waubonsie Valley, 2019
6-foot-1, 165-pound, right-handed hitting, infielder with an athletic, long build. At the plate, balanced setup, smooth load and long stride. Loose levers at times, path has length and flashed bat strength; 85 mph exit velocity from a tee. On the infield, fluid footwork, rangy defender. Steady hands, short arm action, ¾ slot and throws clocked at 79 mph across the diamond. 7.41 runner in the 60.

Sammy Dubin, INF/RHP, Highland Park, 2021
5-foot-7, 135-pound, two-way prospect. Ran a 7.14 laser-timed 60. At the plate, right-handed hitter, open, balanced setup, leg-kick timing trigger and average balance throughout. Opposite field approach and registered an 84 mph exit velocity from a tee. On the infield, fluid footwork, works through the baseball, steady hands and clean release. Long arm action, ¾ slot and throws topped at 76 mph across the infield. On the mound, right-handed pitcher, repeatable delivery, works on-line and with rhythm. Long arm action, ¾ slot. Fastball, arm-side-run, sat 75-76 mph. Curveball worked 11/5, depth at times, 60-65 mph. Changeup, maintains arm speed, fade action, 62-66 mph.

Sava Dupor, RHP/INF, Glenbrook South, 2021
5-foot-10, 150-pound, well-proportioned, right-handed hitting two way prospect. On the mound, right-handed pitcher, drop and drive style, clean delivery, works in line with an athletic finish out front, some rhythm throughout. Quick arm speed, loose, short arm action out of an over the top slot with some effort involved. Fastball was straight, flashed late run, ranged 74-77 mph, topped 78 mph. Curveball, 11/5 shape, sharp with tight spin, 64-67 mph. Changeup maintained arm speed, faded in the zone at 68-70 mph. Offensively, balanced setup, short toe tap trigger. Tate Dynia, RHP/INF, Lincoln-Way Central, 2019
6-foot-3, 225-pound, strong-bodied, two-way prospect. On the mound, right-handed pitcher, linear drop and drive delivery, works on-line. Loose arm action from a high ¾ slot. Fastball pounded the strike zone, sinking action at times, 77-79 mph. Threw a curveball and a slider. Slider worked 10/4 66-68 mph. Curveball 12/6 to 11/5 shape, 64-66 mph. Changeup, sat 65-68 mph. At the plate, right-handed hitter, balanced, closed setup, short stride and long, uphill bat path. Flashed strength through contact, 86 mph exit velocity from a tee. Kai Formella, RHP/INF, York, 2020
5-foot-11, 170-pound, well-proportioned, two-way prospect. On the mound, right-handed pitcher, works out of the stretch only, works on-line, lands square. Short, loose, quick arm action, from an over-the-top slot. Fastball works straight, sat 80-82 mph. Slider, 10/4 shape, 70-72 mph. Curveball worked 11/5 and sat 65-67 mph. Cutter, sat 66-70 mph. Jeremy Fox, RHP/INF, Riverside-Brookfield, 2021
