Preseason I.D. - Lockport: Infield Analysis

The inaugural Preseason I.D. - Lockport took place on Monday, February 20th at the Bo Jackson Elite Sports Dome in Lockport, IL. The event was open to all high school classes and had close to 200 participants from around the Chicagoland area.

Monday we begin the analysis from the event with the catchers. Today we continue the roll-out by looking at the infielders.

Top INfield Prospects

1. Anthony Mangano, SS, Lake Zurich, 2020
5-foot-11, 160-pound, lanky, athletically-built left-handed hitting shortstop. Physically advanced for his age. Offensively, balanced, open setup, short stride, fluid rhythm, maintains balance throughout. Line drive hitter, sprayed the ball, level swing with extension, able to backspin the baseball. Recorded an 89 mph exit velocity off a tee. Ran a 7.20 laser-timed 60. Defensively, throws from a high ¾ arm slot with short action. Fields his position athletically with soft hands and fluid footwork. Clocked at 75 mph across the infield.

2. Brian Adams, SS, Marist, 2019
6-foot-2, 165-pound, athletic middle-infielder with room for physical development. 6.96 runner in the 60, laser-timed. Offensively, switch-hitter, continues to impress with his bat. Slightly more advanced from the left side; simple swing, spray, line-drive approach, bat speed, makes consistent hard contact, 85 mph exit velocity from the left side. Right-handed, quick hands, works the middle of the field, 83 mph exit velocity. Defensively, maintains body control on the move, fluid footwork, soft hands and athletic fielding position. Short arm action from a high ¾ slot, throws clocked at 73 mph across the diamond. High-follow switch-hitter in the 2019 class.

3. Ryan Maher, SS/2B, Brother Rice, 2019
5-foot-11, 175-pound, athletic, right-handed hitting middle-infielder. Offensively, hits from a balanced setup, smooth load, short stride, balance through contact. Simple swing, path works uphill, uses the whole field. Flashed bat speed and hard contact. Exit velocity registered at 82 mph from a tee. Defensively, soft hands, athletic actions, fluid footwork, clean exchange. Short arm action from a high ¾ slot. Accurate throws clocked at 74 mph across the infield. 7.05 runner in the laser-timed 60.  

4. Brendan Carrane, SS/2B, St. Rita, 2019
5-foot-8, 155-pound, left-handed hitting infielder. Offensively, fluid rhythm, line drive hitter, middle of the field approach. Uphill path through the zone. Exit velocity registered at 83 mph from a tee. Open, balanced setup, smooth load, good balance through contact. Defensively, has a soft hands and flashes athletic actions. Short arm action from a high ¾ slot. Throws had accuracy and were clocked at 78 mph across the diamond. 7.16 runner in the laser-timed 60.

5. Rasheed Bernard, INF/RHP, Simeon, 2017
5-foot-7, 165-pound, two-way player. Offensively, right-handed hitter with fluid rhythm, line drive approach. Present bat speed with a short path through the zone. Exit velocity registered at 83 mph from a tee. Balanced setup with a leg kick, some balance through contact. Defensively, soft hands, quick, fluid footwork, clean exchange, athletic actions. Short arm actions from a high ¾ slot. Throws had accuracy and carry, clocked at 80 mph across the infield. Ran a 7.21 laser-timed 60.

6. Bobby Wisz, SS/2B, Lemont, 2019
5-foot-10, 140-pound, wiry-frame middle infielder. Ran a 6.88 laser-timed 60. Offensively, left-handed hitter that creates bat speed for his size, controls the barrel, fluid rhythm, line drive approach, long, level path through the zone. Exit velocity registered at 83 mph from a tee. Defensively, has a quick, clean exchange, flashed some athletic actions. Long arm action from a high ¾ slot. Throws clocked at 75 mph across the diamond.

7. Nicholas Hofmann, SS/2B, Elk Grove, 2019
5-foot-7, 135-pound, athletic, middle-infielder. Defensively, soft hands, fluid footwork, clean exchange, flashed athletic actions. Short arm action from a ¾ slot. Throws were accurate and clocked at 75 mph across the diamond. Offensively, right-handed hitter, slightly open, balanced setup, smooth load, leg lift. Some looseness in swing, gap-to-gap approach, long path through the zone. Exit velocity registered at 84 mph from a tee. 7.03 runner in the 60, laser-timed.

8. Payton Thorne, SS, Metea Valley, 2019
6-foot-2, 170-pound, athletic shortstop. Defensively, throws from a high ¾ arm slot with short arm action, kept throws around the bag, flashed carry, clocked at 78 mph across the infield. Flashed soft hands and clean exchanges. Offensively balanced, short stride, keeps it simple, showed an approach at the plate. Line drive hitter, swings aggressively, gets extension through contact and consistently finds the barrel, recorded an 84 mph exit velocity. Ran a 6.95 laser-timed 60.

9. Jack Brannigan, SS, Marist, 2019
6-foot, 165-pound, athletic, middle-infielder. Impressed with advanced speed for his age; ran a 6.68 laser-timed 60. Offensively, strong, right-handed hitter, some looseness in swing, short path. 82 mph exit velocity from a tee. Balanced setup with a short stride. Defensively, clean exchange, reliable hands. Short arm action from a high ¾ slot, strong arm from across the diamond, throws clocked at 85 mph across the infield.

10. Frank Giamarusti, 2B/SS, Notre Dame, 2019
5-foot-9, 165-pound, strong, right-handed hitting infielder. Offensively, present bat speed, simple swing, some quick twitch, uphill path. Exit velocity registered at 85 mph from a tee. Hits from an open setup with a leg lift timing trigger. Defensively, soft hands, fluid footwork, quick exchange. Short arm action from a high ¾ slot, quick release. Possesses advanced strength, swings the bat aggressively, goes gap-to-gap with a long, uphill barrel path. Recorded a 90 mph exit velocity. In the field, throws from a ¾ arm slot, moved well turning double-plays, clean on exchanges. Clocked at 74 mph across the infield. Ran an 8.00 laser-timed 60.

Joshua Bentley, 2B/SS, Lockport, 2019
