On Monday (President’s Day), Feb. 19, 2018, Prep Baseball Report will be hosting its second annual Preseason I.D. - Lockport event at the Bo Jackson Elite Sports Dome. This event is open to all high school classes, between 2018 and 2021, and has over 200 players signed up currently. Five 2019 standouts from last year’s event have already committed to play at the next level, including: INF/OF Jack Brannigan (Marist, 2019; Notre Dame), RHP Taylor Catton (Dunlap, 2019; Bradley), LHP Jacob Goss (Plainfield North, 2019; Illinois-Springfield), OF Carson Husmann (South Central, IN; Illinois State) and C/INF Max Malley (Marist, 2019; Evansville). Brannigan ran the second-best 60 of the day; 6.68 and was clocked at 85 mph across the infield. Catton had the top fastball velocity of the day, topping at 87 mph.

Two impressive 2020s from last year's event also have already gone on to verbal commit to colleges; C Trevor Davis (Danville; Illinois State) and INF Anthony Mangano (Lake Zurich; Iowa). Both swing left-handed bats, are currently ranked No. 9 and No. 11 in Illinois and were ranked as the top two overall prospects from last year's event.

When looking at this year's roster there are two 2020s to keep an eye out for, RHP Alberto Lamas (Joliet Catholic) and C Anthony Fornero (Lemont). Lamas, ranked No. 28 in Illinois, is an athletic right-handed pitcher with a projectable frame who’s already caught our attention after a recent significant spike in velocity. Fornero, has a chance to be a middle of the order bat as a sophomore for Lemont, a class 3A perrenial power.

As of now, there’s only one D-I committed player on the roster, but he’s also the top-billed shortstop in the 2019 Illinois class and ranked No. 98 overall nationwide, Andrew Wiegman (Carmel Catholic; Louisville).

Andrew Wiegman (7.26.16)

Last year’s first-ever Preseason I.D. - Lockport event produced many eye-catching, off-the-radar players we had yet to see in person before. With at least a couple dozen more players on this year’s roster,  this years event will be an even greater platform for this group to put us on notice.
