X-FACTOR
Michael Oh
. At 6-foot-3, 265 pounds, Oh is one of the biggest, strongest sophomores we have ever seen. And he has the potential to be a two-way force, too. On the mound, he’s low-80s and throws a lot of strikes; offensively, he has big power potential.

NEWCOMER TO WATCH
Casey Kempner
, LHP, 2016. The 6-foot sophomore committed to Heartland CC in the summer after his freshman year.

KEY PLAYER LOST
Grant Rushing, OF (Illinois - football)
Brad Margolin, RHP/C (Washington University)

OUTLOOK
Quietly, coach Dominic Savino has turned the Northbrook school into a consistent winning program. Savino graduated nearly all his contributors from last year’s Central Suburban North championship club. Hard times this year? Not if the summer was any indication. The Spartans continued their winning ways, advancing to the Elite 8 of the IHSBCA summer state tournament. The Spartans are young, to be sure. But they also feature good young talent, several of whom will become well-known prospects. Junior Matt Tedeschi anchors the offense. Savino doesn’t have that shutdown No. 1 pitcher, but he has plenty of arms to pick from.

BOTTOM LINE
Despite being young and inexperienced, the Spartans proved last summer they can still string wins together. They should again be favored to win the CSL North championship, but they will likely be a year or two away from making serious waves in the postseason.
