Q&A With Arizona State Commit Brady Corrigan

By Matt Huck

Brady Corrigan recently committed to Arizona State University. Corrigan is ranked No. 2 in the Illinois Class of 2017 and No. 27 in the PBR Overall Ranks. This past July Corrgian had a huge performance for Team Illinois at the PBR Future Games in Indiana. Here is a report on Corrigan from the event.

Brady CorriganFuture Games 2015 - Athletically built, prototypical pitchers frame 6-foot-3, 180-pound right-handed pitcher was one of the biggest risers at the Future Games. Looks to be the total package on the mound. He featured one of if not the best breaking balls at the event. Corrigan’s curveball is a flat out hammer, at 77-79 mph it can work 12/6 and has swing and miss action that he throws with conviction. On top of that he is athletic, has an electric arm and exudes a ton of confidence on the mound. Fastball was a lively 88-90 mph in his two outings and wasn’t afraid to challenge hitters. Operates from a high ¾ arm slot, repeats his delivery and pounds the zone with all of his pitches. Has feel for a change-up, thrown with fastball arm-speed, fade action at 82 mph. In his two innings of work over the weekend he only allowed one hit and struck out three. One of the top uncommitted 2017’s in the entire Midwest.

PBR: What were your expectations about the recruiting process? Was it as expected? Easy/Difficult?

Corrigan: I thought it would be stressful, but I really enjoyed the process. I got the opportunity to see a handful of amazing schools.

PBR: What were you looking for out of a college program to continue your baseball career at?

Corrigan: I was mainly looking for a good program, education and a place I would enjoy.

PBR: Did location or distance from home play a factor in your decision?

Corrigan: At first I thought I wanted to stay closer, but the more I thought about it I really wanted to expand my opportunities.

PBR: When did the recruiting process really start to heat up for you? Was there a particular game or event that you feel turned the corner for you?

Corrigan: The process really began early July for me, but took off after the PBR Future Games. The first game in this event I felt confident and ready to go and after that game things took off. Before that weekend not many people knew who I was.

PBR: Where did the college you chose first see you? How did your relationship develop with them?

Corrigan: They saw me at the PBR Future Games. They were one of the first schools to show interest in me, and I really enjoyed talking to the coach and getting to know the program.

PBR: What do you like most about the college you committed to and what were the key factors in making your decision?

Corrigan: I would say I like how comfortable I felt while being with the coaches. And I just had the feeling in my gut while being at Arizona State.

PBR: What other schools were on your short list before you made your final decision?

Corrigan: Michigan and Louisville

PBR: Who is the best player you have faced in your state, and why?

Corrigan: I would say Drew Demumbrum. I played with him my whole life until high school. I knew he would be a very tough out because he would me locked in wanting to hit off me. I think he is an over looked player who has more than just physical skills to bring to a team. I am very glad he found a place in Oakland!

PBR: At what point in your career did you realize you were a college caliber player and became serious about taking your game to the next level?

Corrigan: I always had the goal of being a D1 pitcher since I began playing. I got really serious about my game my freshman year. And after two years off really working hard at it I reached my goals.

PBR: What advice would you give to young baseball players striving to get where you are?

Corrigan: The biggest thing I would say is stick with it. Don’t get discouraged. You can only control what you do and how hard you work.

PBR: What is the most memorable moment in your baseball career to this point?

Corrigan: I would say watching the team this past year lose to Mount Carmel in the Super-Sectional. Seeing that season end really made me have the goals to win state this year. Not only for me but for those seniors last year. Those group of guys set a great example on how to lead a team and I hope I can follow there lead this year.

PBR: Preview your high school season for us. How do you feel your team will be? What are your expectations and goals?

Corrigan: I think that we will be very good. My expectation is to make it to the state championship game and win it. We have countless great players who can make this happen.

PBR: Where do you play in the summer? And what has been your most memorable experience with them?

Corrigan: I am on the 29ers and winning a perfect game super 25 this past summer. We were underdogs and came back and won the tournament.
