Report: Kevin Elder transfers from Westminster

RHP Kevin Elder, who’s one of the top prospects in the Class of 2012, has transferred from Westminster Christian to Burlington Central HS, the Elgin Courier-News reported. The 6-foot, 215-pound Elder, who’s ranked No. 13 in the senior class, is committed to the University of Arizona.

In three varsity seasons, Elder has racked up 366 strikeouts in 233.2 innings. As a sophomore, he and teammate Ryan Perez led Westminster to the Class 1A state championship after Elder went 12-4 with an amazing 149 strikeouts in 88 innings. Last spring, Elder was just as dominant, finishing with 132 punchouts in 69.2 innings. The right-handed ended with a 1.81 ERA and a 0.88 WHIP. Elder comes from two different arm angles, delivering consistent 87-90 mph fastballs that have climbed up to 93. His best pitch, however, very well may be his slider, which he throws in the 80-83 mph range.

The Elgin Courier-News also reported that Perez had Tommy John surgery on his right elbow. Perez, ranked No. 8 in the Class of 2012, can still pitch with his left arm.
