IL Senior Games: Preview

Taylor Castro & Diego Solares
Illinois Staff

On Tuesday, August 10, the PBR Illinois staff will be hosting the Senior Games at Triton College in River Grove. The invite-only event will feature the top uncommitted players in the Class of 2022, allowing them to display their talents in both a workout setting and added game play, too.

Last year's event for the Class of 2021 resulted in 67 commitments, including some to Division I schools. RHP Crayton Burnett (St. Joseph-Ogden HS) and RHP Ben Plumley (Lane Tech HS) participated in the Senior Games and are both committed to the University of Illinois. Illinois Wesleyan University commit 1B William Duff (St. Ignatius HS) was also in attendance. The complete roster from last year can be viewed here.

SET TO ATTEND...

There's tons of talent making the trip to Triton next Tuesday and they're all obviously still uncommitted, too. OF Angelo Luna (St. Laurence, 2022) is presently the top prospect set to attend, presently ranked at No. 52 overall in the state. A wiry 6-foot, 180-pound athlete, Luna checks multiple boxes from a metrical standpoint, including a 6.72 60-yard dash, a 91 mph high from the outfield, and an average bat speed of 81.28 mph at this year's Top Tier Scout Day.

Angelo Luna (6/24/20)

Another upside name worth a mention from this group: INF Matthew Morsovillo (Sandburg, 2022). Standing at a lanky, long-levered 6-foot-4, 170-pound frame, Morsovillo showed well at our Lockport Preseason I.D., where he was amongst the top prospects in attendance. He stays short to the baseball and creates whippy barrel strength with his levers, barreling one up at 95.58 mph high in BP at that event.

Matthew Morsovillo (2/15/21)

INF/RHP Jorgie Vazquez (Mount Carmel, 2022) and OF Blake Edmonds (Hinsdale Central, 2022) are scheduled to attend this event next Tuesday. Vazquez is an athletic 6-foot, 170-pound prospect with a simple right-handed stroke, sure-handed actions on the dirt, and a fastball up to 87 mph last June. Edmonds is a strong 5-foot-11, 190-pound left-handed hitter that showed well at The Rock a few weeks ago, homering twice in game. C Ryan Kelly (Huntley, 2022) went on a power surge this spring with the Red Raiders, serving as a key cog directly inside the middle of their order. He's a physical 6-foot, 195-pound athlete with plenty of raw pop inside his right-handed barrel.

Blake Edmonds (3/20/21)

There are intriguing arms we're expected to see this Tuesday. Some names to keep an eye on are RHP Matthew Cuzco (St. Ignatius, 2022), RHP Tyler Altenbaumer (Saint Joseph-Ogden, 2022), LHP Gavin Wernsing (Stewardson Strasburg, 2022).

On that Form, players will enter their name (matching the spelling on their PBR profile) and hit submit. Upon submission, players will be prompted to click a link that will direct them to their jersey color and number, located next to their registered name. From there, players will be instructed to the area where they’ll pick up their designated jersey color and number.
