Simeon 8, Harlan 2

CHICAGO, IL – Simeon and Harlan matched up Wednesday afternoon at Guaranteed Rate Field, the home of the Chicago White Sox, to decide who would be crowned the Chicago Public League Champion. The Wolverines of Simeon scored in every inning but two and came away with an 8-2 victory.

The highlight of the game came in the bottom of the third inning when Anthony Herron, a North Carolina commit and Madison Lowery hit back-to-back solo homeruns to break the game open for Simeon. Harlan had just scored one run in the top half of the inning, to cut the Simeon lead to one, at 3-2. Herron came to bat with one out and smoked a line-drive that cleared the left field wall. Herron's solo shot had the Wolverines faithful on their feet and before they were done cheering, Lowery, the very next hitter, connected on one and sent it over the left-center field wall for the back-to-back solo shots.

Simeon tacked on a run in the fourth and two more in the sixth to give themselves the comfortable victory 8-2 win.  Their offense looked like a complete unit and one that could give any opposing team difficulty. They have elite speed at the top and bottom of the order in Jordon Rogers and Antwain Danner. Both Rogers and Danner can bunt at any time and both ran sub 3.8’s down the line. They have legitimate power threats in the middle of the lineup with Herron and Lowery. The rest of the lineup takes competitive at-bats and makes the pitcher work.

Harlan got their two runs early in the ballgame, scoring one run in the second and one in the third. In the second inning, Jamari Wilbourn reached on a walk, stole second base and eventually scored on an error. In the third inning Bryone Dupart had a clutch two-out, run-scoring single, which plated Henry Perry.

Simeon got going in the bottom of the second inning when they scored three runs. Two singles, two walks and an error by Harlan helped account for the three runs. Christian Carr, who also started on the mound for Simeon had an RBI single in the frame.

Carr got the win on the mound for the Wolverines. The junior right-hander went five innings, scattered two hits, gave up two runs, one earned and struck out one. Rasheed Bernard came on and picked up the save for Simeon. In Bernard's two innings of work, he did not allow a hit or a run and walked two.  

Freshman Donovan Noble started at second base for Harlan and went 1-for-2 with a walk.

Lowery finished the day 1-for-2 with a homerun, two runs scored, two RBI and a walk for Simeon.
