Spanberger stands out for his bat, swing from the left side with an easy, quick swing that features some lift, which he displayed at the World Wood Bat Championship in July and again at the Metropolitan Baseball Classic over Labor Day weekend. He also showed good receiving skills in July and a strong arm with a 1.89-second pop time. An Arkansas recruit, Spanberger is part of a very strong catching crop in Illinois’ 2014 class.
