Below is a compilation of scouting notes throughout the The BOMC – PBR Midwest State Championships (13U) from June 3 - June 5...

Wasco

+ Andrew Kowlton - Big projectable body. Strong swing. Leadoff hitter. Hit a standout triple off the right-field fence. Above-average runner. Good young follow.

+ Trey Roach - Average size, athletic frame with plenty of room to grow. LHH, showed feel at the plate, laying off pitches out of the zone, drawing a two-out walk. Upside as body continues to grow.

+ Mick Howlett - Solid frame. Crafty LHP. Fastball, a lot of two seam action, runs away from the barrel of right-handed hitters. Breaking ball flashed sweeping action, lack of feel and consistency. Potential put-away pitch.

Top Tier- National

+ Chris Schellhorn - Smaller frame, lots of room to grow. Athletic left-handed hitter. Square set up, flashed strength in swing and barrel control.  Showed his running ability, beating a routine groundball to the second baseman.

+ Caleb Tharpe - Smaller frame. Left-handed hitter, gets out of the box well, also stole a base. Above average centerfielder. Made a running catch and held a runner at third trying to tag.

+ Michael Rivera – Tall, lanky, projectable body, lots of room to grow.  Right-handed pitcher with a loose, live arm and easy effort throughout. Breaking ball 11/5 action, feel, confident and comfortable; Threw it in a full count situation.

Jr Stars

 + Alex Schoenly – Athletic frame with lots of room to grow. Left-handed hitter, middle of the field approach. Two singles up the middle. Above-average in centerfield, held a runner trying to tag with strong throw home.

+ Tyler Czoschke – Big frame, strong bodied right-handed hitter. Offensively, strength in swing. Hit two balls hard, one up the middle for a single and also drew a walk. Defensively, played third base and flashed a strong arm across the diamond.

+ Brennan Phillips – Advanced frame and strength in swing given his age. Right-handed hitter, showed pull-side pop, turning on a fastball, hitting it over the wall just foul. Came back with a two-run single. Prototypical catchers frame, natural catcher actions.

Troy Titans

+ Michael Kennedy – Advanced frame, athletic, projectable body. Advanced defender with a high baseball IQ. Played the left-side of the infield, flashing a strong arm across the diamond. Right-handed hitter, strength in swing, line-drive up the middle. Speed plays on the bases. Aggressive runner, stole two bases.

+ Clemente Torres - Athletic frame. Right-handed hitter, hits in the three-hole. Quiet day at the plate but did draw a walk.  Impressed in centerfielder, strong arm with carry; threw a runner out at the plate trying to tag from third.  

+ Cooper Herald – Advanced frame, strong, athletic build. Right-handed hitter, hits in the four-hole. Flashed strong, quick hands, creating easy bat speed. Flashed pull-side pop with a triple off of the left-field wall. Strong arm at 3B, showed some range. Plus speed on the bases, legged a triple to left field and stole a base later in the game. On the mound, right-handed pitcher with a live arm. Complimented his live arm with an above-average 11/5 breaking ball. Feel, confident, threw it in any count. More consistent at times with breaking ball than fastball. True two-way prospect to follow.  

LT Titans

+ Lucas Waunn - Left handed hitter with an average body frame with room to grow. Even set up, middle of the field approach. Singled up the middle and showed pull-side pop with a deep fly out to right.

+ Danny Glimco - Big body, athletic frame. Strong swing for age, showed pull side pop with a double off-the-wall.

+ Cole Storandt - Smaller frame with athleticism. Above-average defender. Diving catch in centerfield and also flashed arm strength.

+ Trent Garrett – Average frame. Right-handed pitcher, with an above-average breaking for his age; plus potential. 11/5 shape, sharp action, tight spin, threw it in any count. Hitters struggled picking it up, resulting in a number of swing and misses. Average command of his fastball.

GRB Rays- Green

+ Andrew Brackwell, RHP, 2021 – Tall, lanky frame. Downhill plane. ¾ arm slot. Slow paced, repeatable delivery. Kept hitters off balance. Sneaky fastball. Up in the zone at times.

+ Nicklaus Nowak, SS, 2021 - Showed athleticism up the middle, with positive glove habits, constantly working towards the baseball. Moved well laterally, ranging up the middle and deep into the hole.

STiKS Academy

+ Bobby Bull - SS, 2021 - Smaller frame. Narrow stance and high hands. Aggressive approach. Drew a walk and stole a base.

+ Tyler Danielson - RHP, 2021 – Over-the-top arm action creating downhill tilt to his fastball. Stays in line with the plate. Tucks his head at the end of his delivery.

Mokena Blaze

+ Will Tenuta - SS/RHP, 2020 - Lean athletic frame. Fluid athlete with above-average footwork in the field. At shortstop flashed a quick release with extension. On the mound, hitch in his wind-up, created deception for the hitter. Clean, live arm with some effort; high ¾ arm slot. Attacked the zone.   

+ Ryan Kraft - CF, 2021. Tall, athletic frame. Quick twitch actions defensively. Advanced reads on fly balls in the outfield. Made a diving play on a deep fly ball into the right-center gap. Speed on the bases.

Baseball Express

+ Caleb Hubbard - Catcher, 2021. Lean, wiry frame. Strong arm behind the plate. Long arm action. 2.28 pop time in between innings. Handled low pitches with ease.

+ Andrew Jimenez – 2021. Right-handed hitter. Tall and long-legged. Offensively, crouched, wide setup. Rhythm in hands. Hard line out to center field.

Top Tier Navy

+ Justin Lynch – RHP. Small frame. Smooth repeatable delivery. Slight finish on glove side, throws from a high ¾ arm slot. Competitive, strike thrower with mound presence.

+ Mason Hsieh Bailey – CF. Athletic, strong build. Advanced runner on the base paths. Showed foot speed and the ability to read pitchers. Scored easily on a wild pitch.

+ David Burch – SS. Left-handed hitting shortstop. Moved well laterally. Showed quick feet and soft hands on a hard hit ball to his back hand. Average arm, but makes up for it with quick feet and extension on his throws. Offensively, smooth swing, stays through the hitting zone.

+ Johnny Hernandez – C. Athletic, strong backstop. Stuck pitches all over the zone with soft and strong hands. Quick exchange, accurate arm.

+ Vytas Valincius – Strong, extra-large frame. Right-handed hitter with present bat speed and aggressive approach. Open setup, leg-kick timing trigger and uphill bat path.

Team Demarini

+ Emmett Spolar -  LHP, 2021 - Projectable frame. Tall and athletic with long arms and legs. On the mound, Spolar’s hands and front leg work together creating rhythmic, repeatable delivery. Falls off to his glove side. ¾ arm slot. Stays on top of the ball, strong arm. Left-handed hitter with athleticism at the plate; doubled off of the right field fence. Should see progression on the mound when he fills in to his body.

+ Brody Munch - SS, 2021 – Vocal middle infielder with baseball IQ. Smooth hands working through the baseball. Offensively, good plate discipline, worked a number of deep counts.

Pro Player

+ Camden Janik - C, 2021 - Advanced defensive catcher. Strong lower half. Flexible creating a low target for his pitchers. Quiet receiver, stuck pitches with soft and strong hands. Threw out a runner at second base; quick, athletic exchange, accurate arm.

+ Tyler Castro - RHP, 2021 - Long limbed, tall, athletic pitcher. Delivery works on-line. Long and loose arm action out of a ¾ arm slot. Fastball flashed late life when down in the zone. Tendency to drop his arm slot and get underneath the baseball.

+ Will Stewart - SS, 2021 – Defensively, at shortstop, plays with rhythm, clean arm action, and works through the baseball. Advanced body control on the infield.

+ Eric Lin - 2B, 2021 – Right-handed hitter, opposite field approach. Two out, two run double.
