The Five: Preseason All-State LHH INF's

"The Five" highlights high-performing athletes from across the state of Illinois. This week “The Five” looks at five left-handed hitting infielders from this winter's Illinois Preseason All-State. All five are 2021s who currently remain uncommitted.

The crop listed below features some middle-of-order first base types as well as a couple of left-handed hitters who should be able to stick up the middle.

Hit: LHH. Wide quiet setup, smooth load and leg-lift timing trigger. Loose, athletic, strong hands, present bat speed, natural lift in swing, stays on plane, extension through contact, fluid rhythm throughout and consistent hard gap-to-gap contact.
Power: 99 mph exit velocity from the tee. Present pull-side power.
Arm: LH. INF - 85 mph. Clean arm action, 3/4 slot and throws carry across the diamond.
Defense: Feel for the first base bag, steady hands, clean release.
Run: 7.33 runner in the 60.

Hit: LHH. Balanced, slightly open setup, quick toe-tap, short stride to even. Fluid rhythm, repeatable swing, loose hands, short, uphill path to contact, controls the barrel.
Power: 83 mph exit velocity from the tee.
Arm: RH. INF - 78 mph. Long arm action, high 3/4 slot.
Defense: Steady hands, clean exchange, range up the middle. Made a sliding play and showed body control completing the play with ease.
Run: 7.01 runner in the 60. Quick first step.

Defense: Attacks the baseball, athletic actions, plays fast and with bounce, quick transfer, smooth on the move up the middle.
