Top Prospect Showcase: Catching Analysis

By Steve Nielsen
Scouting Supervisor – Illinois/Wisconsin

The annual invitation only Top Prospect Showcase is one of the biggest and best collections of uncommitted talent the Midwest has to offer. With over 100 coaches in attendance, this year was no different and throughout the week we will be breaking down the event position by position with our top performers from the event.

We start off with the catchers and it was an excellent group of catch and throw back stops with a few high level bats mixed in as well. 2016 graduate Cooper Johnson took the top spot this year with some of the more impressive catch and throws at the event. Narrowly missing the top spot was David Craan who by far was the most impressive athlete at the event. On top of Craan’s catching skills he showed a quick easy bat and ran an event best 6.55. With that type of speed it might be hard to keep Craan behind the dish.
