Prep Baseball Report Kansas/Missouri held the Underclass Invitational East at The Sports Barn in Wentzville, Missouri on January 31. Over 75 players in the 2018 and 2019 attended.

In the days to come, we will break down each position, taking a look at the pitcher's performances today.  Player profiles have been updated with video and stats from the event.  Click on each player to see their profile.

Pitchers

Alex Adams, RHP, Lafayette, 2018
Adams’ delivery is smooth and repeatable, with some effort. The arm action is stiff at times but remains at a high ¾ release and he does a good job of working downhill. There is an upward trend in regards to his fastball as is it is currently 78-82 mph, that will occasionally have some arm side run. Change-up is  between 70-76 mph, with good fade and is tough to pick up. Curveball has 11-to-5 break and shows the potential to be sharp when located down in the zone. Adams’ easy delivery, athletic build and continued upward trend will make him a prospect to keep an eye on in the future.

Jack Adams, RHP, Kirkwood, 2019
Adams is a 2019 grad from Kirkwood, MO, and is a right-handed pitcher. On the mound Adam’s provides some deception from his high ¾ arm slot as he throws slightly across his body and with his fastball having some late cut action. The delivery is easy with clean arm action. Fastball was thrown for a high percentage of strikes and was between 77-79 mph. Adam’s threw one changeup in his work out at 64 mph. Curveball was thrown at different arm angles which allows for a 12-to-6 and a slurve type break.

Cadence Allen, LHP, Francis Howell, 2018
Allen is a 5-foot-8 145-pound left-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2018 class from Francis Howell HS.  Allen has a high three quarters release, throws with regular effort, smooth rhythm, repeatable delivery, fastball at 65-68 mph, breaking ball has 12-to-6 action at 58-59 mph, change-up at 65-67 mph.

Tyler Bastunas, RHP, Timberland, 2019
Bastunas will be a 2019 grad from Timberland HS and is a right-handed pitcher. Bastunas’ short but athletic build consists of being 5-foot-8 and 140 pounds. His delivery includes a high leg kick, good direction and is repeatable with some effort. Bastunas showed very good command of all pitches as he threw a high percentage of strikes. Fastball was located to both sides of the plate ranging from79-82. The changeup showed good depth and action between 66-70 mph.  When thrown aggressively, the curveball exhibited downward action and a 11-to-5 break.

Michael Collins, RHP, Francis Howell, 2018
Collins is a right-handed pitcher from Francis Howell HS Collins has 5-foot-11, 165 pound, athletic frame. His delivery is stiff and deliberate, but has good direction to the plate and strides slightly across his body. Collins’ high ¾ arm slot provides consistency for his fastball, ranging from 73-76 mph, with cut action. He displayed good feel for this curveball, that ranges from 62-67 mph and had good 12-to-6 action, as he threw it for a high percentage of strikes. Collins also throws a slider at 64-65 mph with decent bite but similar movement to his fastball.

Jacob Crayne, RHP, McCluer North, 2018
Crayne is a 5-foot-9 155-pound right-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2018 class from McCluer North HS.  His fastball is 73-75 mph, slider has a slurve-shape with 10-to-4 action, 58-66 mph, change up has slight arm side run at 65-69 mph.  He has a deceptive low three-quarters arm slot, hides ball well until release, throws with regular effort, strides in line with athletic finish.

Cooper Day, RHP, Grain Valley, 2018
Day is a 5-foot-8 125-pound right-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2018 from Grain Valley HS.  Day has a slender frame with loose arm action, high three quarters release, body stays under control during delivery, gains momentum as he gets down the mound, throwing with regular effort.  Fastball at 73-77 mph, curveball with 11-to 5 shape at 58-62 mph, change up at 58-65 mph, slight arm side run. 

Brady Dolde, RHP, Troy Buchanon, 2019
Dolde is a member of the 2019 class with a big frame at 6-foot-1 and 200 pounds. His delivery has direction, with a slightly open stride, and shows the ability to repeat. Dolde’s release is at a high ¾ slot which allows for sink on his fastball which appeared to be heavy at 73-77 mph. Changeup shows good fading action and sink at 66-70 mph, but struggled to find a feel for it. Curveball, at 61-62, has 12-to-6 action and was sharp when thrown aggressively. 

Drew Donaldson, RHP, St. Charles, 2018
Donaldson is a 6-foot-4 225-pound right handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2018 class from St. Charles HS.  Donaldson has a three-quarters release, throws with regular effort, strong build, in line stride, athletic finish, worked fastball at 73-76 mph, throws for a strike, 12-to-6 shaped breaking ball, 59-62 mph, change up at 62-64 mph.

Gage Dwyer, LHP, Fort Zumwalt South, 2018
Dwyer is a 6-foot 194-pound left-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2018 from Fort Zumwalt South HS.  Dwyer has late life to his fastball with running action, 75-80 mph, one the top LHP fastball velos for the event, works mostly inside to RHH, curveball has 2-to-7 action, 61-63 mph, change up has sinking action at 71-72 mph.  He works from a high three quarters release with smooth rhythm in his delivery, body is under control with loose arm action, throws with regular effort.

Will Ferrel, RHP, Notre Dame, 2018
Ferrell is a 6-foot-6 215-pound right-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2018 class from Notre Dame in the Cape Girardeau area.  He has shown an increase in velocity since his last event, working his fastball up to 83 mph, one of the top RHP fastball velos of the event. He has a long and lean build with a repeatable and smooth delivery, over the top release. Fastball works down in the zone to both sides of the plate, with late run, 12-to-6 breaking ball, sharp downward action, 72-73 mph, slider at 72 mph, change up with fastball arm speed at 72-76 mph, slight arm side release.

Nick Gettemeier, RHP, Holt, 2019
Gettemeier is a 5-foot-11 145-pound right-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2019 class from Holt HS.  Gettemeier threw a high percentage of strikes with three pitches, fastball at 68-71 mph, curveball has gradual 12-to-6 action, down in zone at 59-61 mph, command of change-up at 64-67 mph, near fastball arm speed, down in zone. High three-quarters arm slot, in line stride, throws with regular effort, smooth rhythm with repeatable delivery.

Tyler Hagan, RHP, Lafayette, 2019
Hagan is a 6-foot-3 225-pound right-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2019 class from Lafayette HS.  Hagan has a fastball clocked at mostly 75-77 mph, throws for strike, curveball has gradual 12-to-6 action, 54-57 mph, change up at 67-68 mph, smooth rhythm in delivery, throws with regular effort, in line down the mound, strong build. 

Trenton Harlan, RHP, Timberland, 2018
Harlan is a 6-foot 180-pound right-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2018 class from Timberland HS.  He has a high three quarters release, repeatable delivery and release point, body under control, in line stride, fastball at 75-78 mph, 12-to-6 curveball at 64-67 mph, change up has slight arm side release at 66-68 mph, throws with regular effort, high percentage of strikes.

Chase Hoeber, RHP, Liberty-Wentzville, 2019

Chase Hoeber, 6-foot-1, 165 pounds, is a member of the 2019 class of Liberty HS in Wentzville. Hoeber has a slender, projectable frame with room to grow. His delivery is simple, yet consistent, and shows the ability to repeat. Hoeber’s fluid, over the top arm action displayed a fastball range of 73-77 mph, with occasional late run. His throws a straight change ranging from 68-71 that does allow for sink and occasional run. Curveball has 12-to-6 action ranging from 63-67 mph, with some bite. Hoeber showed the ability to command all three pitches as well as to both sides of the plate.

Ryan Keisker, RHP, Francis Howell Central, 2018
Keisker is a 6-foot-1, 190-pound 2018 grad of Francis Howell Central in St. Louis. Keisker has a strong build, a simple delivery with a low ¾ arm slot. Fastball was 66-70 mph with occasional run to his arm side. Keisker throws a straight changeup with some sink at 51-53 mph. Curveball is 50-53 mph with 12-to-6 break.

Micheal Kolb, LHP, Westminster, 2018
Kolb is a 6-foot-1 170-pound left-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2018 class from Westminster HS.  Kolb throws from a high three-quarters release and with regular effort, stays in line as he gets down the mound, hides ball until release, wind-up starts with a rocking step, fastball is 69-71 mph, showed a knuckle-curve with gradual 2-to-8 action, 60-64 mph, change up with fastball arm speed at 62-65 mph.

Chase Krogman, LHP, Liberty-Wentzville, 2019
Krogman is a 5-foot-11 155-pound left-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2019 from Liberty HS in the St. Louis area.  Krogman starts delivery under control and is aggressive down the mound, quick arm speed, over the top release, loose arm action, smooth rhythm, throwing with some effort. Fastball was 80-83 mph, top LHP fastball velo for the event, showed a tight spinning 12-to-6 breaking ball, 72-74 mph, throws for a strike, showed some feel for a change up at 69-74 mph, fastball arm speed, down in zone.

Nich Leadford, LHP, Holt, 2018
Leadford is a 5-foot-10, 150 pound left-handed pitcher in Missouri's 2018 class from Holt HS. Leadford currently has a smaller, but projectable frame, with loose arm action from a ¾ arm slot. The delivery is clean, repeatable and he throws slightly across his body. Fastball is 77-79 mph with run and thrown for a high percentage of strikes. Changeup fades to his armside with some sink between 69-72 mph. Curveball has 1-to-7 break, thrown between 64-67 mph and has sharp, late break. Leadford’s slender, athletic frame project him out well to be a solid prospect.

Michael Long, RHP, MICDS, 2019
Long is a catcher, right handed pitcher, and 2019 grad of MICDS. On the mound, Long’s fastball range was 74-78 mph with occasional cut. His changeup was clocked between 62-67 mph displaying some prominent sink while his curveball has 12-to-6 break and good downward action. Long’s delivery includes high ¾ arm slot, a high leg kick at balance, and has good direction towards home plate.

Frank Lopez, RHP, Fort Zumwalt South, 2019
Lopez is a 6-foot, 190-pound 2019 grad from Fort Zumwalt South HS in O’Fallon, Missouri. Lopez has a solid, athletic frame and displays average to quick arm action coming from his high ¾ arm slot as well as showing the ability to repeat his delivery. His fastball ranged from 78-81 mph and showed command of his arm side of the plate. Lopez had command to his change-up and was 71-73 mph. The Curveball was 62-68 mph and showed some late action when located down in the zone.

Eddie Martin, RHP, Festus, 2019
Martin is a 5-foot-10 165-pound right-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2019 class from from Festus HS. Fastball works at 74-74 mph, three-quarters arm slot, 11-to-5 shaped breaking ball, mostly 60-62 mph, straight change-up at 65-68 mph, simple delivery, controlled, in line down the mound.

Ryan Mathewson, LHP, Francis Howell, 2018
Mathewson is a 5-foot-11 155-pound left-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2018 class. Mathewson worked his fastball at 73-75 mph throwing it to both sides of the plate, he showed a controllable curveball at 60-63 mph with 2-to-7 shape, and feel for a change up at 63-65 mph, throws change up with near fastball arm speed, down in zone.  Controlled delivery, high three quarters release, in line stride, athletic finish, throws with regular effort.

Braedon Mathys, LHP, Holt, 2018
Mathys is a 5-foot-11 220-pound left-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2018 class from Holt HS.  He showed command of three pitches, arm works, high three quarters release, throws with some effort, attacks zone, fastball at 75-78 mph, one of the top LHP fastball velos for the event, late life, running action, controllable 2-to-7 breaking ball, down in zone, 59-61 mph, feel for a change up at 64-68 mph, near fastball arm speed, strike thrower.

Cash Miller, RHP, Warsaw, 2018
Miller is a 6-foot-4 195-pound right-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2018 class from Warsaw HS.  Miller has an over the top release, throws downhill, long arm circle, in line stride, athletic finish, smooth rhythm and repeatable delivery, fastball at 70-73 mph, gradual 12-to-6 shaped curveball, 59-60 mph, change up with slight arm side release, 65-68 mph.

Noah Pingel, RHP, Francis Howell North, 2018
Pingel is a right-handed pitcher from Francis Howell North HS. Pingel has a solid frame and build at 5-foot-10 and 165 pounds. The delivery has some rhythm, minimal effort and a high ¾ arm slot. There is some inconsistency with the finish of his lower half which makes his delivery tough to repeat at times. Fastball was thrown for a high percentage of strikes at 82-83 mph, with some action. Pingel struggled to get a feel for his changeup which was between 69-74 mph. Curveball displayed gradual action between 66-69 mph. 

Kolten Poorman, RHP, St. Francis County, 2019
Poorman is a 5-foot-9 192-pound right-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2019 class from St. Francis County HS.  Poorman has a strong build, starts wind-up hands over the head, loose and quick arm action, tuck at balance point, in line stride, throws with some effort,  fastball at 76-79 mph, slight 12-to-6 action on curveball, 67-68 mph, throws change up down in zone at 63-65 mph.

Eliyah Reed, RHP, Brentwood, 2019
Reed, 2019, Brentwood HS, right-handed pitcher with a small frame and athletic build at 5-foot-10 and 155 pounds. On the mound, Reed has a repeatable delivery with rhythm and good direction. The delivery provides for some deception with a strong glove side and easy arm action.  His high ¾ arm slot delivers fastballs at 74-76 mph with some cut action. The changeup was commanded well at 66-70 mph with noticeable fade and depth. Curveball had gradual downward action at 64-67 mph.

Brody Roach, RHP, Lutheran-St. Charles, 2018
Roach right-handed pitcher in the 2018 class of Lutheran St. Charles HS. Roach’s slender 6-foot-0, 170 pound frame and athletic build project out well for the future. His delivery is repeatable and has good rhythm and further his high ¾ arm slot provide for natural run on his fastball and changeup. The fastball is heavy at 79-84 mph with late action. The changeup is tough to pick up as it is thrown with fastball arm action between 73-76 mph with good life and action. Curveball has sharp 12-to-6 bite at 67-69 mph. Roach’s athletic build and easy arm action make him a prospect to keep an eye out for in the future.

Zachary Robinson, RHP, Fort Zumwalt South, 2019
Robinson is a 5-foot-10 162-pound right-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2019 class from Fort Zumwalt South HS.  Robinson throws strikes with three pitchers, fastball at 73-78 mph, tight 12-to-6 breaking ball, 59-60 mph, late action, change up at 66-68 mph, sinking action, simple and repeatable delivery, high three quarters release, loose arm action, throws with regular effort, tuck at balance point, projectable arm action and athletic frame.

Dillon Ruble, RHP, St. Charles, 2018
Ruble is a 5-foot-9 130-pound right-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2018 class from St. Charles HS.  Ruble has an over the top release, lifts hand with leg, lands slightly closed, clean arm action, repeats delivery, high percentage of strikes, throws with regular effort, fastball 74-78 mph, curveball at 68-70 mph, 11-to-5 action, change up at 68-70 mph, slight sink, near fastball arm speed,

Preston Salazar, RHP, Kirkwood, 2019
Salazar is a 6-foot-1 145-pound right-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2019 class from Kirkwood HS.  Salazar has a fastball at 76-78 mph, 12-to-6 shaped breaking ball at 63-65 mph, straight change-up at 70-72 mph, slender frame with projection, over the top release, high percentage of strikes with three pitches, controlled body during delivery, in line and aggressive down the mound, throwing with some effort, arm works.

Nick Schmidt, RHP, Holt, 2018
Schmidt is a 6-foot-2 180-pound right-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2018 class from Holt HS.  Schmidt worked 82-84 mph with is fastball, one of the top velos for the event, curveball at 67-70 mph, sharp 11-to-5 action, change up at 73-75 mph, slight sink, near fastball arm speed. Schmidt throws with regular effort, loose arm action, and a simple repeatable delivery.  He throws three pitches for a strike and will be a pitcher to follow in the 2018 class.

Jacob Stoker, RHP, Homeschool, 2018
Stoker is a 2018 right-handed pitcher from St. Charles, Missouri. On the mound, Stoker’s 5-foot-11, 163 pound frame projects out well. Stoker’s low ¾ arm slot delivers fastball with arm side run and ranges from 75-79 mph. The changeup displays similar type action with added sink and at 68-69 mph. Curveball ranges 63-68 mph with slurve type action. Stoker’s fluid delivery and quick arm action provide deception that make it tough for the hitter to pick up his release point.

Robby Taul, RHP, Alton (IL), 2019
Taul is a 6-foot 150-pound right handed-pitcher in Illinois’ 2019 class from Alton HS.  Projectable build with clean arm action, high three quarters release, repeats delivery, drop and drive, throws with regular effort, fastball at 76-78 mph, curveball has 11-to-5 shape, shows to be a good pitch as he develops, controllable change-up at 67-68 mph. 

Jared Viertel, RHP, Boonville, 2018
Viertel is a 2018 right-handed pitcher from Boonville, Missouri. Viertel’s 6-foot-2, 165 pound, slender and athletic frame project out well for the future. His delivery is fluid and includes a high leg kick as well as accelerates nicely down the mound. Viertel’s loose arm action allows for his fastball to appear heavy as it jumps out of his hand and is 79-82 mph. Viertel’s changeup is a plus pitch for him as it was 72-74 mph, with good arm side run and sink. The curveball exhibits 10-to-4 action and is 64-67 mph. Viertel’s clean and repeatable delivery, easy arm action and ability to throw a high percentage of strikes make him an attractive prospect.

Jase Wallingford, RHP, Quincy Notre Dame (IL), 2018
Wallingford is a 6-foot-8 240-pound right-handed pitcher in Illinois’ 2018 class from Notre Dame HS in Quincy. He has a long and lean frame with projection, clean and loose arm action that suggests a velo increase down the road, fastball has downhill tilt, works the bottom of the zone at 80-84 mph, one of the top fastball velos of the event, high three quarters release, late breaking 11-to-5 curveball, swing and miss pitch, change up at mostly 73-74 mph, thrown with fastball arm speed. Delivery is smooth and controlled, throws with regular effort, creates direction towards the plate, athletic finish.

Mitchell Winn, RHP, Liberty-Wentzville, 2019
Winn from Liberty HS in Wentzville is a member of the 2019 class, a right-handed pitcher. Winn is 6-foot-2, 213 pounds with a big frame and athletic build. The delivery has a slower tempo to it but, is simple with good direction as he accelerates down the mound. Winn throws from a high ¾ release with short arm action that appears stiff at times. The fastball is between 79-82 mph and thrown for a high percentage of strikes. He throws a straight changeup at 64-68 mph and the curveball primarily has an 11-to-5 type break but does show slurve type spin at times at 60-66 mph.
