On Wednesday, June 5, PBR Illinois will return once again to Boomers Stadium to host the 2019 Underclass Trials. This annual showcase is open to all prospects in either the 2021 or 2022 graduating classes. The event serves two purposes: Players will receive their typical exposure with scouting reports, video, and analysis, but this event also serves as an identifier for August’s Prep Baseball Report Future Games, the summer’s most anticipated event for 2021 prospects in our coverage area. The 2022 prospects participating will also be looked at as potential invitees for the Underclass Games.

Several top-ranked prospects in their respective classes attended last year’s event. In the 2020 class, Normal Community’s Mason Burns (uncommitted) was one of the top performers at the event, while Isaiah Coupet (Ohio State) and Mike Schicker (Purdue) impressed as well. For the 2021 class, top prospects Ryan Kraft (Indiana) and Marian Catholic’s Aidan Stewart (uncommitted) each had strong performances. Here’s a look at the 2020 and 2021 top overall prospects.

There will be over 60 prospects participating at this year’s event, with a handful of top prospects that are still uncommitted.

Toledo-Cumberland 2021 right-handers Brennyn Cutts and Brayson Shew are both ranked in the top 10 for their class. Cutts attended the Junior Future Games last year and impressed on the mound, with his fastball touching 85 mph. Shew is one of the top two-way prospects in his class with a fastball that touches 85 mph and he also swings a short, quick bat.

Right-handed pitcher Tom Egan (Mount Carmel) is another top-ranked player in the 2021 class that will be attending the event. His fastball has touched up to 87 mph with a curveball and a slider as well.
