Prep Baseball Report - Illinois/Missouri held the Unsigned Senior Showcase in St. Charles, Missouri on October 1.  Nearly 45 players in the 2018 class from both states participated.

Players profiles have been updated with profile pictures, stats and video from the event.  In the days to come we will break down the event position-by-position, taking a look at the catchers today.  The catchers listed below are in alphabetical order

Catchers

  Jacob Bauer

Jacob Bauer C / OF / Fort Zumwalt West, MO / 2018

Bauer is a 6-foot-2 190-pound right-handed hitting catcher in Missouri’s 2018 class.  He ran a 7.66 laser timed 60 and has an 89 mph exit velo.  At the plate, starts slightly open, loads hands from middle of body to launch position, short in line stride, level path through the zone, flashed pull side power, gap to gap approach.  Behind the plate, 66 mph positional velo, pop times between 2.26 and 2.54-seconds, over the top release, short over the top release, mostly accurate throws, wide set up in base, quick jab step with feet on time with glove to hand exchange.

Travis Black C / RHP / Carmi-White County, IL / 2018

6-foot-4, 220-pound, broad shouldered, thick, right-handed catcher. Offensively, balanced set up, maintains balanced through swing.  Power approach, looks to use strength to pull, short barrel path through zone, 92 mph exit velo. Ran 7.82-laser timed 60.  Defensively, short arm action from three-quarters slot, clean on exchanges, recorded pop times between 2.22 and 2.51-seconds, 72 mph from the crouch.

Ethan Fletchall C / 3B / Liberty North , MO / 2018

Fletchall is a 5-foot-11 180-pound right-handed hitting catcher n Missouri’s 2018 class.  He ran a 7.84 laser timed 60 and has an 85 mph exit velo. At the plate, balanced stance, reverse in line to touch, short stride with minimal hand movement, slight lift in bat path, strong lower half, gap to gap line drives.  Behind the plate, pop times between 2.40 and 2.58-seconds, 72 mph positional velo, wide set up in base, short over the top release, clean exchange, short and fluid footwork, mostly accurate, throws flash carry.

Nicholas Fuller C / 3B / Liberty North, MO / 2018

Fuller is a 5-foot-10 190-pound left-handed hitting catcher in Missouri’s 2018 class.  He ran a 7.81 laser timed 60 and has an 83 mph exit velo. At the plate, athletic set up, no wasted movement in load, short stride, stride walks away from hands, level path, repeats swing with solid contact to the middle of the field, flashed pull side pop, body is under control with looseness in hands, stays through the ball after contact.  Behind the plate, pop times between 2.04 and 2.22-seconds, 72 mph positional velo, accurate over the top release,

Avery Morrow C / 1B / Union, MO / 2018

Morrow is a 6-foot-1 180-pound right-handed hitting catcher in Missouri’s 2018 class. He ran a 7.40 60 and has an exit velo of 83 mph.  At the plate, balanced set up, leg kick, short stride, slight lift in bat path, loose hands with quick bat speed, body stays under control, mostly pull side contact with occasional power.  Behind the plate, 72 mph positional velo, 2.21-2.35 pop times, high three quarters arm slot, short arm circle, feet create momentum to throw, quick transfer, short first step on time with exchange, shows flexibility to receive with soft hands.

AJ Spinello C / 3B / Rockhurst, MO / 2018

Spinello is a 5-foot-10 195-pound right-handed hitting catcher in Missouri’s 2018 class.  He ran a 7.50 laser timed 60 and has a 79 mph exit velo. At the plate, balanced set up, loads against back side with controlled leg kick, minimal hand movement, aggressive and quick bat speed, mostly middle to pull side line drives during batting practice, solid hard contact during batting practice.  Behind the plate, quick actions in both hands and feet, accurate over the top release,  2.00-2.18-second pop times, 72 mph positional velo, staggered set up in feet, short step on time with exchange, throws have carry.

Josiah Steen C / Homeschool, MO / 2018

Steen is a high wasted and long legged 6-foot-2 185-pound right-handed hitting catcher in Missouri’s 2018 class.  He ran a 7.30 laser timed 60 and has an 86 mph exit velo. At the plate, thin set up in base, leg kick, in line stride, efficient hand load, aggressive swing, fast bat speed, flashing pull power, swings with intent to hit ball hard, gap to gap approach with mostly pull side line drives.  Behind the plate, 73 mph positional velo, 2.11-2.51-second pop times, short high three quarters release, throws are mostly accurate with carry, slightly staggered set up in feet with quick jab step, quick exchange.
