Unsigned Senior Showcase: Infielder Analysis

By Illinois Scouting Staff

On Jan. 13, PBR Illinois hosted its first showcase of 2019, the winter’s Unsigned Senior Showcase. Approximately 50 prospects came out to The MAX facility in McCook, Ill., to participate in the day’s workout in front of our staff and over 25 colleges.

We started our coverage last week with our Quick Hits post and a Statistical Analysis, as well as yesterday’s look into the group of catchers, but we’re on to analyzing the day’s set of infielders, including arguably the top overall prospect in attendance.

Lake Forest’s Peter Turelli stands out, physically. At a highly athletic 6-foot-3, 190 pounds, Turelli was among the most projectable athletes at The MAX for the Unsigned Senior Showcase. The left-handed hitter swings hard on a level plane, maintaining balance and rhythm throughout his round of batting practice. Turelli looks fully capable of sticking on the left side of the infield, too.

John McMahon, an infielder from Glenbard South, was another one of this group’s highlights offensively. He demonstrated bat speed in the right-handed batter’s box on a slight incline through the ball.

Continue on below for detailed reports on each of the 19 infielders from the group. And remember, check back tomorrow when we examine the day’s group of outfielders.
