Today marks the eighth update to the Power 25 of the season after another busy week of games, including some Regional playoff action for 1A/2A programs.

After an impressive 3-0-1 week, including running away with the DISW Championship, Providence Catholic rises up four spots and sits at No. 1 once again. The Celtics knocked off Sandburg and Lyons Township on Saturday, en-route to the Championship. They also beat St. Francis 4-3 on the week and tied No. 13 Lemont 4-4.

This update also marks the final update of the season until postseason play completes after the second weekend of June in Joliet. For now, take a look at the final regular season standings below, with all of the recent movement broken down:

CLIMBING

+ No. 1 Providence Catholic (28-6-1): We touched on the impressive week for the Celtics above, who sit at the top of the state once again with playoffs on the Horizon. The winners of the CCL-Blue regular season look to be one of the most complete teams on paper and are trying to get back to Joliet for the first time since 2016. If Providence can get through the Regional semifinals they would face the winner of Homewood-Flossmoor and Andrew on Saturday. 

+ No. 2 Father McGivney (36-1): Making their way up two spots to No. 2, Father McGivney sits at an eye-opening 36-1 on the season and already has two playoff victories under their belt, recently taking down Roxana 8-0 to claim their Regional Championship. The Griffins start sectional play this week against Teutopolis on Wednesday as they look to continue their strong play and make a deep run for State. 

+ No. 5 Huntley (26-7): The Red Raiders find themselves up two spots to No. 5 after a 3-1 week this past week; taking down Schaumburg 2-0, Streamwood 8-3 and St. Viator 12-6. Their lone loss came against a talented Antioch club by the score of 4-3, where Indiana commit TJ Schuyler (Antioch, 2023) hit two home runs and also fired a complete game on the mound. Huntley will face off with Palatine today at 4:30 pm before they start regional play on Wednesday against Jefferson. 

+ No. 9 Downers Grove North (29-4): The Trojans come in this week at No. 9 after a spotless 4-0 week with wins over Leyden 10-0, St. Viator 12-11 and two wins over Glenbard West (5-3, 4-3). Now sporting a 14-game win streak, the Trojans are one of the hotter teams in the state at the moment. Their offense very well may be one of the best in the state, and they could make a deep playoff push if their arms continue to step it up. 

+ No. 21 Hersey (25-8): Up to No. 21 after making their Power 25 debut in the last update, Hersey went an impressive 4-0 this past week which was highlighted by two wins over a talented Barrington club (1-0, 11-1). They also took down Harlem 11-0 and Highland Park 8-0, outscoring their opponents 31-1 on the week. 

SINKING

+ No. 3 Lincoln-Way East (27-8): The Griffins fell twice this past week with losses to Yorkville 5-2 and Homewood-Flossmoor 6-5, and now find themselves down to the No. 3 position. They were able to salvage the week with two wins, taking down Neuqua Valley and Homewood-Flossmoor both by the score of 8-5. The Griffins will begin Regional play this Wednesday against Bloom. 

+ No. 4 St. Charles East (25-4): The Saints fall to No. 4 in the state after seeing two tough losses to Kaneland 11-4 and Wheaton North 7-4. Wins against Neuqua Valley 2-0 and Wheaton North 11-1 brought their weekly record to 2-2, as they now sit at 25-4 on the season. 

+ No. 6 New Trier (24-6): The Trevians were yet another team to finish the week at a 2-2 clip, falling to No. 6 in this week’s update. Losses to Maine South 6-4 and Loyola 4-3 were the main cause of their drop, but their two wins over St. Patrick 4-1 and Maine South 4-1 helped limit the damage. The Trevians will face off with a tough Mundelein club today before they start Regional play later this week. 

+ No. 11 Evanston (28-7): The Wildkits enter this week at No. 11 in the rankings after going 3-2 last week. They fell to now No. 19 Glenbrook North by the scores of 17-11 and 3-1, but also saw wins over former No. 18 Stevenson 5-2, Buffalo Grove 9-2 and Lincoln Park 10-6. The Wildkits have one of the top prep arms in the state in Hank Liss (2023; Belmont), as well as a number of other talented players littered throughout the lineup, and they will be no easy task to take down when the playoffs start up. 

+ No. 25 Stevenson (26-9): Stevenson hangs on to the Power 25 this week in the No. 25 position after a 2-2 week. Their two losses came against the aforementioned Wildkits by the score of 5-2, as well as a talented Libertyville club 19-9. They did see two wins on the week, Taking down Prairie Ridge 16-6 and Libertyville 3-1. 

NEW TO THE POWER 25

+ No. 19 Glenbrook North (25-7): Glenbrook North re-enters the Power 25 in the No. 19 position after falling from the rankings after the first week of the season. Initially ranked at No. 17 in the preseason rankings, North has won nine straight, and 12 of their last 13. They have depth on the mound and in their lineup, with a good mix of seniors and underclassmen. With the roll they have been on lately, don't count them out for a deep playoff push. 

+ No. 23 Crystal Lake South (24-6): Re-entering the Power 25 in the No. 23 position, the Gators have now won 13 of their last 14 games and are in position to make yet another playoff run as they did last year, as they made it all the way to 3A State. They went a perfect 4-0 this past week, taking down Lakes 18-2, Belvidere North 16-0, Carmel 10-0 and Woodstock North 4-1, equalling out to a 48-3 run differential. 

+ No. 24 Gillespie (31-0): Making their Power 25 debut at No. 24, Gillespie boasts a sparkling 31-0 record, making them one of the last undefeated teams in the state, and the only undefeated team with 30+ wins. They only played one game this past week, but saw a victory over Southwestern 4-3.
