Updated Illinois Power 25 Team Rankings

The top of the Power 25 remained largely intact in the fifth installment of the 2017 season. St. Laurence (21-1) stays at No. 1 after a perfect 5-0 week. The Vikings won four Catholic League games, including a two-game sweep of Providence Catholic.

Below is a breakdown of the what happened over the past week.

TOP TEN

+ All of the Top 10 teams in the Power 25 remain from last week’s update. The only change was St. Rita jumping up one spot. The Mustangs, knocked off No. 10 Brother Rice and RHP Ryan Kutt 1-0 on Saturday. LHP Steven Washilewski twirled a complete game shutout to lead the Mustangs.

FOX VALLEY CONFERENCE

+ The deep Fox Valley Conference has three teams in the top 20 and four in the top 25.  

+ Crystal Lake South (20-1) - The Gators, now No. 11, continue to climb up the Power 25. The veteran group swept a three-game set against Fox Valley Conference foe, Jacobs. The Gators pitching staff twirled shutouts in two of the three wins.

+ Huntley (18-4) - Now No. 15, went 3-1 on the week and took 2-of-3 from No. 22 Cary Grove.

+ McHenry (13-5) - Went 2-0 on the week, sweeping a two-game set against Crystal Lake Central. The Warriors are now No. 16 in the Power 25.

CLIMBING

+ Glenwood (14-4-1) - Went 2-0 on the week with consecutive 12-0 wins over Decatur MacArthur.

+ Lyons Township (15-4) - The Lions climbed one spot after a 3-1 week. Lyons took 2-of-3 from Hinsdale Central in a closely contested three game series.

+ Sacred Heart-Griffin (16-4) - Swept a two game set against Springfield High by the scores of 18-1 and 7-0.

+ New Trier (16-3) - The Trevians, who have won 12 straight, are one of the hottest teams in the state right now. New Trier went 3-0 on the week, outscoring opponents 27-5.

+ Oswego East (21-2) - The Wolves continue to climb and now are top 20 in the Power 25. Oswego East went 3-1 on the week including wins over Plainfield North and Plainfield South.

SINKING

+ Plainfield North (15-6) - The Tigers went 1-3 on the week and fell to No. 14.

+ Lincoln-Way Central (13-6) - Went 2-2 on the week and dropped six spots in the Power 25. The two losses came to Lincoln-Way West 4-2 and 3-1.

+ Cary Grove (14-7) - Dropped five spots in the Power 25 after losing two-of-three to Huntley in a Fox Valley Conference matchup. The Trojans won 6-4 and lost 2-1 and 7-5.

NEW TO THE TOP 25

+ Buffalo Grove (17-1-1) - The Bison have been on a roll and find themselves in the Power 25 for the first time this season. Buffalo Grove went 4-0 last week, outscoring opponents 44-13.

+ Marian Catholic (14-5) - The Spartans, now No. 24, went 3-1 on the week with two wins over Nazareth and a win over St. Viator.

+ Chicago Christian (27-0) - The Knights continue to roll after another undefeated week. Chicago Christian went 4-0 last week, with three of the wins coming via shutouts.
