Weekly Diamond Notes



There have been five players named the Porsche Exchange Player of the Week so far this season. This past week’s winner was Elk Grove senior RHP/SS Christian Camacho.

For the week, Camacho put up impressive numbers on the mound and at the plate. On the mound he picked up two wins, going a total of eight innings, surrendering three hits, no earned runs, no walks and struck out 15. At the plate he went 11-for-17 at the plate with five doubles, six runs three runs batted in and four walks.

Several players narrowly missed out on winning the award this week. Let’s take a look at some of the players around the state who put up impressive numbers last week:

WEEK 5

Colton Carr, RHP, St. Joseph-Ogden, 2016
Kankakee CC recruit. Threw a complete game on Monday against Paxton-Buckley-Loda. Went seven innings, allowed four hits, one earned run and struck out six. He one upped his performance on Saturday twirling a complete game shutout on Saturday against Olympia. Went seven innings, allowed three hits, no earned runs and struck out nine. Final line for the week: 14IP, 1ER, 7H, 15K, 2BB and a 2-0 record. His pitching stats so far this season: 42IP, 15H, 55K, 6BB and a 7-0 record. Also, threw a perfect game on April 12th vs Unity.

Brett Whelton, C, St. Francis, 2016
McNeese State recruit. Nominated for Player of the Week two weeks in a row, had another big week at the plate. Went 11-for-15 (.733), 3 2B, 2 3B, 1 HR, 10 RBI, 4 R, 4 BB and 0 K.

Foster Heise, 1B, St. Francis, 2016
North Central College recruit. In six games last week, Heise went 11-for-17 (.647 BA), 2 2B, 1 HR, 11 RBI, 5 BB and 2 K. On the season he is hitting .481 with 7 2B, 1 3B, 4 HR, 27 RBI, 13 BB/HBP and 4 K.

Dillon Weiss, OF, O’Fallon, 2016
In four games last week Weiss went 10-for-14, 2 2B, 3 RBI, 5 R and a HBP. Also, stole five bases last week.

Jake Pomykalski, RHP/1B, Lincoln-Way East, 2017
Illinois Chicago recruit, ranked No. 35 in the Illinois 2017 class. At the plate last week, went 9-for-16, 3 2B, 7 RBI and 2 BB.
