There have been three players named the Porsche Exchange Player of the Week so far this season. This past week’s winner was Champaign Central’s Alec Barger. Barger swung a hot bat, hitting two homeruns and also picked up three saves on the mound. Click Here to read about Barger’s early season success.

Several players have narrowly missed out on winning the award the first three weeks, which we highlighted in the weeks Diamond Notes. Let’s take a look at some of the players around the state who have gotten off to a hot start during the spring 2016 campaign:

WEEK 3

Mitch Hunter, RHP, Lincoln-Way North, 2016
Hunter threw a complete game shutout against Ripley (WV), helping Lincoln-Way North to 6-0 victory. His final line was seven innings, no runs, four strikeouts, two walks and five hits.

Mac Hickman, RHP/3B, Clinton, 2016
Hickman started twice on the week. In the start against North Mac he threw a complete game no hitter. He struck out seven and walked two. For the week he threw 11 innings, struck out 14, walked three, gave up three hits and only two earned run. At the plate he went 4-for-14.

Dan Schmidt, LHP, Cary Grove, 2016
Schmidt pitched a 7 inning perfect game versus Woodstock High School.  He threw 80 pitches and struck out 10.  No ball was hit out of the infield.  Dan is 2-0 and has a .636 era.

Cam Post, C, Lincoln-Way Central, 2017
Played three games on the week. Went 5-for-9, two doubles, four runs scored, two runs batted in and two walks. Had an on-base percentage of .636

Ian McMahon, LHP, Benton, 2018
Appeared in three games. Picked up two wins and a save. Final numbers for the week: 14 innings, allowed 10 hits, walked two, struck out 18 and did not allow a run.

WEEK 2

+ Kyle Hentis, RHP/SS, Red Bud, 2016
Lindenwood recruit. Went 10-for-18 with five doubles, three runs batted in, a run and a stolen base. On the mound, he went six innings, no earned runs, one hit and struck out 12.

+ Michael Gunartt, OF, Niles West, 2017
Over three games this week Gunartt went 7-for-13 with two homeruns, a triple, a double, 11 runs batted in and five runs scored. Eight of his eleven RBI came in one game.

+ Matt Cook, RHP, Collinsville, 2016
Cook threw a complete game 3 hitter in a 4-2 win against No. 11 ranked O'Fallon.  Cook went seven innings, allowed three hits, two unearned runs, struck out nine and walked three.

+ Eddie Wilkins, RHP, Reed-Custer, 2017
Fired a no-hitter against Sequtchie County (TN). Wilkins struck out 9 and walking 3.

+ Jordan Walden, RHP, Reed-Custer, 2016
Walden threw a no-hitter against Dwight. In the performance he struck out 17. Walden was one pitch away from a perfect game, walking one Dwight batter on a 3-2 count.

WEEK 1

+ Jordan Yates, 1B, Belleville East, 2016
Hit .650 in the opening week including 3 doubles, a triple and seven RBI.

+ Cole Kmet, LHP, St. Viator, 2017
In four games in Arizona Kmet went 6-for-10 with a home-run, a double, two runs batted in, three hit by pitches, a walk and a .714 on base percentage. Kmet also picked up a win on the mound going 4 1/3 innings, allowing one earned run, striking out 12  and walking one.

+ Trevor Davis, INF/RHP, Gibault Catholic, 2017
In a four game stretch he went 9-for-15 with three doubles, a triple, a homerun, six runs batted in, scored four runs and stole a base. He also threw a seven inning complete game on the mound. Scattered two hits, allowed one earned run, struck out 16, walked a batter and hit a batter. He had only given three hits in 13 innings to start off the year.

+ Jackson Bronke, RHP, Normal Community, 2016
Heartland CC recruit. Won two starts on the week. In his first start he went 4 1/3 innings allowed no runs, one hit, walked four and struck out 12. In his second start of the week he threw a complete game two-hitter against Glenwood. He struck out 12 once again and walked three.

+ Camden Bauer, SS, O’Fallon, 2016
Alabama recruit. For the week Bauer hit .545 with three doubles, four runs batted in and had a .706 on-base percentage. He also threw a no-hitter on the mound vs Athens (AL).
