Weekly Diamond Notes

This week’s PBR Player of the Week was senior right-handed pitcher and first baseman Bobby Miller (McHenry). On the week, Miller twirled a no-hitter with 10 strikeouts and went 8-for-17 (.471 BA) at the plate with two homeruns, four RBI, five runs scored and three walks. Every week we will note the players that just missed out on the award with our Weekly Diamond notes. Let’s take a look at some of the players around the state who had a big week last week:

WEEK 6 PERFORMANCES

Peyton Dillingham, OF, Normal West, 2017
Heartland CC commit. In five games last week the right-handed hitter went 10-for-18 (.555 BA) with a double, two homeruns and eight RBI. Dillingham now has seven homeruns on the year.

Will Elvers, INF, Sacred Heart-Griffin, 2018
In four games last week, Elvers went 9-for-12 (.750 batting average) with two doubles a triple and nine RBI. On May 1, in a game against Pleasant Plains, Elvers went 3-for-4 with three RBI and was a home run away from a cycle.

Jon Kelso, CF, Willowbrook, 2017
Wisconsin-Platteville commit. On the week Kelso went 7-for-15 (.467 BA) with two doubles, a homerun, five RBI and three stolen bases. On the year Kelso is currently hitting .537 with 22 RBI, 36 runs scored, 20 stolen bases and only five strikeouts.

Nate Madej, LHP/1B, Lemont, 2017
Madej, one of the top unsigned senior pitchers available in Illinois had a big week on the mound and at the plate. On the mound he picked up two wins, both over Oak Forest. Went a total of 8.2 innings, scattered six hits and struck out six. At the plate, went 6-for-11 (.545 BA) and had a game-winning hit.

Jacob Marti, 1B, Normal West, 2018
In five games last week the switch hitter went 6-for-14 (.429 BA) with three homeruns, a double and 10 RBI.

Kyle Morgan, LHP, Huntley, 2018
6-foot-3, 180-pound southpaw went 2-0 on the week with wins over Hampshire and McHenry. Morgan threw a total of 10 innings, gave up six hits, one earned run, struck out eight and walked one.

Logan Peterson, RHP, Morton, 2018
Last Wednesday threw a perfect game in a 7-0 win over East Peoria. In his seven innings of work he threw 84 pitches and struck out 14. He also went 1-for-3 with a double and three RBI in the victory.

Brett Renken, RHP, Richards, 2019
Renken went 2-0 on the mound last week. On Tuesday, May 2,  Renken got the win vs Shepard.  He threw 1.1 innings in relief, scattered two hits, no runs and struck out one. On Thursdat spun complete game victory against Bremen. Threw 76 pitches in his seven innings of work, four hits, one run, struck out three and walked one. The sophomore right-hander is now 5-0 on the year with a 1.94 ERA.
