Wiegman, Carmel Silence Notre Dame

Carmel’s three-run first inning came all with two outs. Wiegman reached base on an infield single. Following a balk and wild pitch, there stood a man on third base with four-hitter Lukas Galdoni up to the plate. Galdoni delivered a run scoring infield single to give Carmel the 1-0 lead. The next batter, Sean Lynch, drew a walk to give the Corsairs men at first and second. A high fly ball into no-man's land in short right center by Brandon Banker would be enough to score both Galdoni and Lynch. After one inning, Carmel led Notre Dame 3-0.
Notre Dame starting pitcher, Creighton commit, Paul Bergstrom was able to settle in after the first inning. At one point, Bergstrom retired 11 consecutive batters before issuing a walk in the fifth inning. In a losing effort, Bergstrom went six innings, allowing three runs on five hits, walking two and striking out five.
Offensively, Wiegman led all players with two hits, including a double and a run scored, he was 2-for-3 on the day. Galdoni, Banker and Charlie Dir all picked up a hit for the Corsairs, with Galdoni collecting an RBI and Banker two. For Notre Dame, Dylan Coleman, Kevin Garcia, Kyle Schuster and Frank Giamarusti all picked up a hit in three plate appearances.
