Plainfield North 11 (7-1), Romeoville 2 (2-6)

Plainfield, IL – The Plainfield North Tigers used a five-run fifth inning to put away the Romeoville Spartans in non-conference play on Wednesday 11-2. The contest featured several underclass prospects from both squads that showed well. Junior southpaw Kyle Strepek came away with the win on the mound for the Tigers, throwing six innings of two-run, four-hit ball, walking three, and striking out ten.

Romeoville would do their only damage of the day in the top of the first inning. 2016 middle infield prospect Matthew Bottcher led off the game with a walk, and 2015 6-foot-3 centerfielder Josh Krueger promptly deposited a Strepek fastball over the left centerfield wall for a two-run homer. Plainfield North answered in the bottom half of the frame with three runs and never trailed. Strepek fired five scoreless frames, limiting the Spartans to two hits for the duration.

With Plainfield North leading 3-2 in the bottom of the third, pinch hitter/designated hitter Matt Bubuskow put the game away with a three-run homer to deep left-center field. The Tigers managed eight hits on the day and were aided by ten Romeoville walks and two hit my pitches. Romeoville sophomore second basemen led the Spartans with two hits.

Plainfield North 6-foor-2 sophomore right-hander Josh Garner impressed by striking out the side in his one inning of work to close out the game.
