Top-10 Profiles of 2024: No. 1 Ryan Sloan
December 31, 2024
At last, we’ve made it to our most-viewed profile of 2024, and it’s none other than RHP Ryan Sloan (York, 2024). Former No. 1 player in Illinois, No. 6 ranked player nationally and also the top ranked arm in the country, Sloan was recently selected by the Seattle Mariners in the second round as the No. 55 pick, signing for well over slot value at an even $3 million.
Sloan was far and away one of the most dominant arms statistically in the state this past spring, earning Player of the Year honors, as well as a First Team All-State selection after he twirled 46 innings with just 19 hits allowed, 90 strikeouts, only five walks, a 0.30 ERA and miniscule 0.117 opponents batting average.
A former Prep Baseball All-American standout, Sloan routinely ran his fastball into the upper-90s to pair with a wipeout slider and dancing changeup. His upside as a starter is quite high thanks to his dynamic arsenal, pitchability and workhorse frame, and he’ll be an exciting one to follow through the Mariners organization.
From 6/19/24: “Prep Baseball Illinois' Player of the Year, Ryan Sloan, had quite an impressive year for York, pitching 46 innings and only allowing two earned runs the whole season, leaving the No. 1 right-handed pitcher in the country with a staggering 0.30 ERA. Sloan was practically unhittable with 90 strikeouts, scattering 19 hits with a 0.117 opponent batting average. The Wake Forest commit also showed command of his explosive arsenal, surrendering only five walks on the season. Sloan may not make it to Winston-Salem as the projected first-rounder has impressed scouts all over the nation with his arsenal, pitchability, and makeup, all of which helped lead York baseball to consecutive 4A State Finals. Sloan's fastball has been up to 98 this spring, hovering in the 95-97 range, grouped with a mid-80s slider with late 10/4 bite and an upper-80s changeup with late dive.”
