Top-10 Stories of 2024: No. 9 St. Anthony Wins 2A State Title

After bumping up to 2A in 2024, the Bulldogs finished the season with a 27-5-1 record and a State Championship, their second in school history.

A pair of 2025s were major contributors to their season in RHP/INF Brock Fearday (2025; Southwestern Illinois JC signee) and 1B Brady Hatton (2025). Fearday led the Bulldogs in hits (40), RBIs (41), batting average (.417), doubles (11), and was tied for the most home runs (7) on the team. He was also the ace on the mound, going 8-1 with a 1.75 ERA and 74 strikeouts in 68 innings pitched. Hatton finished the year with seven home runs, seven doubles, a team-high 29 runs scored, and a .378 batting average.

RHP Aiden Lauritzen (2026) was another arm for St. Anthony - finishing the season 7-0 with 51 strikeouts and a 1.21 ERA.

MAROA-FORSYTH VS. ST. ANTHONY

It was a late night for the 2A State Finals as weather delayed the start of the game. St. Anthony would go on to defeat Maroa-Forsyth 8-5 with the game ending shortly after midnight.

CF Beau Adams (St. Anthony, 2024) started the bottom half of the first with a single, and 2B Brock Fearday (2025) followed with an RBI double. 1B Brady Hatton (2025) later stepped to the plate and delivered another RBI double in the inning, scoring Fearday, and giving the Bulldogs the 2-0 lead.

At Dozer Park:

St. Anthony added five more runs in the bottom of the second inning, which was highlighted by a two-RBI single from Fearday and a bases-clearing double from Hatton, the Indians extending their lead to 7-0.

The Trojans tacked on some runs in their half of the third, tallying two runs on a two-RBI double from Zayn Giles (2024).

The Bulldogs scored one more run in the bottom half of the third on an RBI from Adams to add to their 8-2 lead.

Maroa-Forsyth picked up two more runs in the top half of the fourth inning, highlighted by a two-RBI double from C Mitch Williams (2025). They followed with another run in the top of the fifth inning on an RBI single from Giles.

RHP Joe Tegeler (2025) threw 1.1 innings in relief for St. Anthony, struck out one and allowed two hits. The Bulldogs finish their season 27-5-1 after moving up a classification this season.

THIRD PLACE GAME

Wilmington took on Newman Central Catholic and defeated them by the score of 4-0. The first two innings were scoreless, but the Wildcats scored two runs in the third, one in the fourth and one in the fifth, giving themselves the 4-0 lead.

RHP Kyle Farrell (2025) tossed a complete game shutout for Wilmington, with three strikeouts and four hits allowed.
