2016 Player Spotlight: Brice McDaniel, Columbus North

By Phil Wade
Director, PBR Indiana

Brice McDanielToday's 2016 Player Spotlight is on Columbus North 1B/LHP Brice McDaniel, currently ranked No. 12 in his class. We first saw McDaniel at last winter's Preseason All State Showcase in Indianapolis and then again at the All State Prospect ID Showcase in June.  He possesses a projectable frame at 6-foot-1, 205 pounds and has good athleticism for his size.

At the plate he displays a compact swing with some projectable power from the left side.  McDaniel started as a freshman for Columbus North this past spring where he hit .344 with 1 HR, 6 2B, and 10 RBI in 23 games played.

We saw McDaniel play multiple times this past high school season where he worked well around the bag and showed good arm strength.  At the plate he never appeared over matched for a freshman, even against higher velocity arms.

McDaniel did not pitch much this past high school season, but at the February All State Showcase he was up to 81 mph with his fastball.  Mechanically he needs refined, but his arm worked well.  He starts with his hands high and typically landed open.
