2017-2018 Prospect Showcase: Corner Infield Analysis

On Sunday, September 21st PBR Indiana hosted the 2017-2018 Prospect Showcase at Grand Park in Westfield, Indiana.  Below we analyze the corner infielders that participated in the event.

Caleb Brenzczewski, 3B, Fishers HS, 2017: 6-foot-2, 195 pound sophomore possesses a strong, athletic frame.  Possesses soft hands with quick feet at 3B.  Quick, clean exchange with a strong arm across the field at 82 mph.  At the plate starts from a balanced setup with a smooth load.  Stride is short with good use of the lower half.  Possesses quick hands with a good approach.  Gets to extension with pull-side power.  

Grant Druckemiller, 1B, Bloomington North HS, 2017: 6-foot, 190 pound sophomore possesses some arm strength across the diamond at 75 mph from a long arm action.  Offensively, hits from a balanced setup with a slight leg lift for timing.  Possesses average bat speed.  Hard contact to his pull-side.  Registered a 79 mph exit velo.  

Kade Fleming, 1B, Evansville North HS, 2017: 6-foot-1, 155 sophomore moves well around the bag with quick feet.  Hands are average.  Across the diamond was 68 mph.  At the plate the LHH starts balanced and loads back.  Stride is short with above average hand speed.  Level path to the baseball.  Registered an exit velo of 78 mph.  

Bryce Frederick, 1B, North Montgomery HS, 2017: The 5-foot-11, 185 pound sophomore was 62 across the diamond from 1B with raw actions.  Tends to play on his heels instead of coming through the baseball.  At the plate starts balanced but opens up during his stride.  Does not load.   Bat speed is average with a long path.  Pull-side hitter.    

Chris Fundich, 1B, Lake Central HS, 2017: 6-foot-1, 195 pound sophomore possesses a strong, athletic frame.  Shows good arm strength across the field at 79 mph.  Showcased good hands with fluid feet and a clean exchange at 1B.  Offensively, the LHH starts in a slight crouch using a short stride.  Bat speed is quick (89 exit velo) and gets the barrel through the zone.  Shows present power consistently driving the gaps.  Good rhythm throughout the swing. 

Justin Hensley, 1B/3B, Brebeuf HS, 2017: 6-foot-2, 192 pound sophomore possesses a strong frame with wide shoulders.  Showcased soft hands with a clean exchange.  Exchange is clean and displayed good feet for his size.  Offensively, starts open with high hands and loads back.  Stride is short with above average bat speed.  Gets to extension and showcased the ability to drive the gaps.  Good balance throughout.  Registered an exit velo of 86 mph.  

Alex Hornaday, 3B, Cardinal Ritter HS, 2017: The 5-foot-9, 165 pound sophomore was 72 across the diamond with accuracy from a short arm action.  Needs to improve footwork and speed.  Hands are avearge.  Offensively, hits from a crouch setup while using a short stride.  Hands drop during the load.  Displayed a long swing path.  Makes hard contact.  Will over-rotate at times.  

Elliott Jackson, 1B, Daleville HS, 2016: A 5-foot-11, 185 pound Junior, possesses a strong, athletic frame.  At 1B showed average actions, moves well around the bag and showcased a strong, accurate arm at 82 mph.  Arm action is long and from a high ¾ slot.  Offensively, the LHH stats balanced and uses a slight leg kick.  Hands are quick but will drop during the load.  Finishes one-handed.  Registered an exit velo of 82 mph and ran a 7.38 60.  

Anthony Kurek, 1B, Chesterton HS, 2017: 5-foot-10, 190 pound sophomore ran a 7.88 60 and was 63 across the diamond.  Defensively, hands are average.  Needs to improve foot speed and playing through the baseball.  At the plate, the LHH starts in a slight crouch with a short stride.  Overall good approach with a level swing path.  Registered an exit velo of 63 mph.  

Ty Lautenschlager, 1B, West Vigo HS, 2017: 6-foot-4, 235 pound sophomore possesses a big frame with wide shoulders.  Defensively showcased average hands.  Feet are heavy, but moves well for his size.  Big presence at 1B.  Offensively, the LHH starts balanced with a smooth load.  Stride is short with a quick bat.  Gets to extension from a level path showing pull-side power.  Registered an exit velo of 83 mph. 

Charlie May, 1B, Delta HS, 2017: The 5-foot-8, 125 pounder shows average hands at 1B with a quick, clean exchange.  Across the diamond was 66 mph.  At the plate starts from a balanced approach with a smooth load.  Strides long with.  Swing path is level.  Aggressive hitter. 

Jack Parisi, 3B/1B, Homestead HS, 2017: The 5-foot-11, 183 pound sophomore shows average hands defensively with clean footwork.  Exchange is clean and was 79 across the diamond.  Showcased the ability to throw from multiple angles.  Offensively, starts in an athletic setup and leg kick.  Shows above average bat speed with an overall good approach.  Gets to extension with the ability to drive the gaps.  Registered an exit velo of 82 mph.  Stong hitter.  

Cameron Pitzer, 3B, New Palestine HS, 2018: 5-foot-11, 145 pound freshman possesses an athletic frame and good size for a freshman.  Actions are raw with an average glove.  Plays through the baseball well.  Across the diamond was 62 mph and ran a 7.50 60.  Offensively, starts balanced with high hands.  Uses a short stride.  Drops hands during the load.  Long swing path, pull side hitter. 

Michael Scalzo, 1B, Noblesville HS, 2017: A big 6-foot-4, 240 pound sophomore with average hands at 1B.  Move well for his size, but has tendency to field on his heels.  Acorss the diamond was 73 mph.  At the plate the LHH starts balanced using a short stride.  Loads back with good balance.  Level path to the baseball with gap to gap power. 

Caleb Rush, 1B, Mt. Vernon HS, 2018: 6-foot-4, 160 pound freshman possesses a lanky frame with wide shoulders.  Defensively was 70 across the diamond.  Raw actions overall, should get better as he matures.  At the plate hits from a balanced setup.  Loads back with a short stride.  Opens up on occasion.  Long swing path, line drive hitter with some stiffness.  Exit velo was 77 mph. 

Jake Vanek, 1B, Bishop Dwenger HS, 2018: 6-foot-1, 189 pound freshman possesses a strong, athletic frame.  Defensively, showcased average hands with fluid feet at 1B.  Plays through the baseball with a clean exchange.  Across the diamond from a long arm action was 73 mph.  At the plate the LHH starts from an athletic setup and high back elbow.  Tap and go stride.  Shows above average bat speed with a long path.  Pull-side hitter with some pop.  Finishes one handed.  Ran a 7.36 60. 

Brandon Vermillion, 1B, Daleville HS, 2016: The 6-foot, 170 pound 1B works well around the bag with good feet.  Across the diamond from 1B was 71 mph.  Offensively, the LHH stats open with a smooth load.  Stride is short.  Shows above average bat speed with a level path to the baseball.  Ability to drive the gaps.  Registered an exit velo of 82 mph. 

Sy Zickler, 1B, Brownstown Central HS, 2017: 6-foot-1, 210 pound sophomore possesses average hands defensively with good feet.  Plays through the baseball.  Across the diamond was 68 mph.  Offensively starts balanced and wide.  Uses a short stride.  Average bat speed with a long path.  Showcased the ability to hit to the opposite field.  Registered an exit velo of 79 mph.
