2018 HS TEAM PREVIEW: COLUMBUS EAST OLYMPIANS

Head Coach: Joe Gratz

Class: 4A
2017 Record: 18-8
Conference (2017 Record):  Hoosier Hills (3rd place)
Returning Starters/Pitchers: 5/5

2018 Team Strengths:

  • Starting Pitching
  • Offense
  • Leadership

Top Players:

2018's:

  • Alec Burnett, RHP/OF: Indianapolis recruit

Underclassmen:

Outlook: The Olympians head into the season ranked No. 11 in the preseason 4A poll.  Three arms committed to D1 schools return in Hasson, Greenwell and Gilley, as well as a D2 commit in Alec Burnett. Defensively the middle infield is back, led by Junior Jonah Wichman, along with key bats in the lineup.  The HHC is always a tough conference, but expect the Olympians to compete with No. 19 Jeffersonville and No. 24 New Albany for a conference championship.  The depth on the mound should give Coach Gratz's team a legitimate opportunity at advancing deep into the state tournament.
