March 29
No. 6 Zionsville @ No. 11 Carmel
By Cooper Trinkle

Drew Dickson, RHP, Zionsville HS, 2022

Dickson, a Northwestern signee, started on the mound for Zionsville. Dickson only threw one inning, but he struck out 3 of the 4 batters that he faced. The 6-foot-3 220 pound righty was a consistent 84-86 with his fastball and 76-79 with a sharp, 10/4 slider.

Nash Wagner, RHP, Zionsville HS, 2024

Alabama recruit. The long, 6-foot-5 RHP made quick work of his inning in relief. He predominantly used his fastball, which was 87-88 mph on this cold, windy March night. Wagner showed a ton of confidence on the mound, not afraid to go right at hitters. Wagner finished the night with 1 K, 1H, on 1 IP.

Chase Wagner, RHP, Zionsville HS, 2024

The 6-foot-1 uncommitted RHP impressed in his relief appearance. Wagner showed good tempo and athleticism in his delivery, with a low effort level. He sat 83-85 on the fastball, touching 86. Wagner had command of his sharp, 76-77 mph slider, using it as an out-pitch but also commanding it in the zone earlier in the count. Showed a big, downer type curveball at 70-73, but the command was inconsistent on this night. He finished the night with 2 K’s, on 1H, in 1 IP.

Simon Wilkinson, RHP, Zionsville HS, 2024

The 6-foot RHP appears to have added some size and strength since our last look in the fall. Wilkinson sat 82-84, touching 86 twice with his fastball. He went right at hitters with this pitch at the top of the zone. Strong balance point, drop-and-drive type delivery. Expect his velo to tick up as the season progresses. In 1 IP tonight, Wilkinson had 2 K’s and gave up 1H.

Noah Bradbury, RHP, Carmel HS, 2023

The uncommitted 6-foot-3 RHP had a strong relief appearance for Carmel, racking up 4 K’s on 1H and 1BB in 2 IP. Bradbury showed a quick tempo delivery, with some arm speed and an OTT slot. Bradbury sat 83-85 with his fastball and mixed in a big, downer type curveball at 68-71 mph. His ability to change speeds kept hitters off balance. Good follow.

Nathan Maclaren, OF, Carmel, 2022

Uncommitted 2022. Maclaren is an athletic, twitchy 5-foot-9 CF with advanced speed. He showed off his run tool tonight by swiping 2 bases in the first inning, after a lead off walk. Despite the conditions making it tough on hitters, Maclaren put together good at-bats all night. He hits from a balanced setup, uses a toe-tap stride, and shows quick hands at the plate. Line-drive approach, table setter type. Maclaren finished the night 1 for 2 with a walk and two stolen bases.

3A No. 2 Andrean @ 4A No. 7 Jeffersonville

By Daylan Nanny

Peyton Niksch, RHP/OF, 2022, Andrean, Purdue Northwest University commit

Peyton Niksch started on the mound for the 49’ers & collected the “W” - throwing (5) innings of (1) run baseball. As well collecting a hit and scoring a run on the offensive side of the ball. Niksch was in control of the baseball to both sides of the plate from slight crossfire delivery & was able to throw a true three pitch mix, keeping hitters off balance 1-9.

FB: 83-84 (good extension with some ASR; straightens out glove-side)

BB: 74-77 (sweeping action; showed ability to sharpen as well)

CH: 70-74 (depth & command to bottom of zone; good feel)

Max McEwen, RHP, 2022, Jeffersonville, Indiana State University commit

A Future Games participant, McEwen punched out (10) “49er” hitters in his first start of the year for Jeffersonville. The future Sycamore got off to a rocky first inning, but then settled in to display why he is one of the top ’22 RHPs in the State! Lots of poise, attacks hitters with a lot of intent to execute the pitch with some downward angle down the slope.

FB: 86-88 (heavy down in the zone; showed ability to beat barrels up in zone)

BB: 75-77 (sharp w/ depth)

CH: 71-74

Caiden White, RHP/INF, 2024, Jeffersonville, Uncommitted

Another Future Games participant from Jeffersonville. Came out of the pen following McEwen with a different arm slot look and a ton of athleticism down the mound. Using a short quick AA, white and high ¾ angle. Quick tempo. Expect to see the fastball climb as the weather heats up. Lots to like from this uncommitted ’24 with some real (FB/BB) tunneling possibilities in the future.

FB: 87-88 mph

BB: 74-77 mph

Kannon Stull, OF/INF, 2022, Jeffersonville, University of Evansville commit

The UE Commit, Stull displayed a very aggressive approach in the box with the intent to do damage. As well, the ability to have adjustability within his swing and approach 2 strikes. Where he collected a solid line drive single up the middle on a breaking ball. Driving in the “Red Devils” only run of the game! Good presence in the box.

Jack Vogt, INF, 2024, Andrean, Uncommitted

Very physical (6’1/185lbs) Vogt, played 3B for the 49’ers in their 03/29 matchup versus Jeffersonville. Playing both corner infield positions & using a lot of sink in his load the 2024 reached base 2/3 times – collecting a single and walk. Showed present bat speed with a simple, quiet load. Good follow.

Jaden Hart, INF/OF, 2023, Jeffersonville, Uncommitted

Starting at 2nd base the INF/OF showed a lot of athleticism in the box producing a line drive over the 2nd baseman. Has shown that he can be a good runner and look for Hart to continue to turn heads as the spring continues & summer as strength is added. Flat simple swing with good approach.
