2025 Preseason ID Watch List

Cooper Trinkle
Indiana Scouting Director

Our Preseason ID tour provides our staff the opportunity to travel to all parts of the state in order to identify talent. The ID events are unique in the fact that they are generally lower roster numbers compared to our All-State events, so player evaluations are able to be personalized at a greater rate, making it a great first event for players. Along those lines, the ID event is perfect for the "Almost Famous" prospect, or the player that we have built a bit of repoire on already and are able to track progress with. We have seen plenty of future Division I prospects breakout in a major way at an ID, like Sean Dunlap (Tennessee), Desmond Francis (Notre Dame), Collin Osenbaugh (Louisville), Mason Braun (LSU), Will Coleman (Kentucky) and Kellen English (Indiana) to name a few.

We are excited to get our ID schedule underway on February 8th in Terre Haute, making stops in Mishawaka (2/9), Huntington (2/16), Indianapolis (2/17), Crown Point (2/23), before finishing up in Evansville and New Albany on March 9th. We already have a handful of exciting prospects registered to attend these events, and today we shine a light on 15 of those players, while we should see more players unknown to our staff at this point breakout and establish themselves at one of these events.

Lucas Haas RHP / Valparaiso, IN / 2027

Great Lakes Preseason ID

Haas was recently featured on the Hotlist as a breakout candidate this winter.

“I am extremely excited to see the 6-foot-3 right-hander from Valparaiso at our Great Lakes Preseason ID, an ID that is consistently strong. Haas is an arm that I have followed from afar since last summer and his first event could very likely cement him, in my mind, amongst the top arms that the class has to offer within Indiana. There are high-end traits present - an athletic, projectable frame, full arm action that will allow velocity to jump, two well-shaped offspeed offerings, and an easy-effort, well-sequenced delivery. While not well-known yet, I think the Great Lakes ID will serve as a launching pad for this '27 arm. ”

Gavin Lykins RHP / 1B / Plainfield High School, IN / 2026

Indy Preseason ID

Writeup from September 3, 2024

    • Tale of the Tape :
      + 6-foot-4, 200 pounds
    • FB 86-89 (ride/run, 17" IVB, 14" HZB)
      SL 74-77
      CH 70-73
  •  Quick Analysis : Lykins is a very projectable athlete, armed with a strong fastball that he uses heavily. The fastball plays with ride/run properties in the mid-to-upper 80's, a number that will tick as he adds mass to his lengthy frame. His mid 70's slider is his go-to offspeed.

Troy Barrett LHP / Chesterton Senior High School, IN / 2026

Great Lakes Preseason ID

+ One of the better uncommitted juniors lefties in the state is coming off a sophomore year where he posted an impressive statline : 7-1 record, 83 strikeouts, 1.18 ERA, 53.1 IP, and just 12 walks. I love the pitch-ability Barrett offers with his low-to-mid 80s fastball and above average secondaries. His ability to pitch backwards plays up the fastball with velo gains likely at this event compared to our last looks.

Sam Swaim RHP / Terre Haute South Vigo High School, IN / 2027

Terre Haute Preseason ID

+ Swaim is an arm that I have wanted to see for a while, jumping on my radar last spring (freshman) after striking out 24 in 16.1 IP for 4A Terre Haute South. The 6-foot-4, 195 pound is really intriguing and I'm looking forward to getting eyes on him.

Nate Southwell OF / 1B / Munster, IN / 2026

Great Lakes Preseason ID

+ A good follow LHH with a really sound stroke. The swing will play, and I am interested to see his strength/athleticism development. He showed above average arm strength & fringy bat strength as a sophomore, while posting a 7.12 60, all tools I think could louden as he matures.

Clay Austin OF / LHP / Floyd Central, IN / 2026

Southern Indiana Preseason ID

+ An interesting left-handed arm, Austin got on our radar as a sophomore at the Southern Indiana ID, now returning for a second year. Listed as a primary OF, I actually think there is a higher ceiling on the mound due to the arm speed. There is quickness in the arm and the fastball likely ticks into the mid-80s this winter if progress continues.

Jack Baumgardner LHP / 1B / Valparaiso, IN / 2028

Great Lakes Preseason ID

+ I saw Baumgardner as a 14 year old at the Super Select and his long, lanky frame caught my attention. His velocities were light at the time, but you knew the velocity would come at some point. Following his progress this summer, he caught the attention of our staff at The Rock in Wisconsin with better velocities than I saw in the spring. He registered for this event at 6-foot-4, 182 pounds - much taller/physical than in 2024. The upside is exciting here.

Noah Sena RHP / OF / Valparaiso, IN / 2026

Northern Indiana Preseason ID

+ A loose-armed, lanky RHP that I liked at our Hoosier Holiday in 2024. There is some projection in the frame with a fastball that has already creeped into the mid-80s, and will likely reach higher at this event if offseason strength was added to the frame.

AJ Lasane SS / 2B / St Joseph, IN / 2027

Northern Indiana Preseason ID

Northern Indiana Preseason ID '24 - LaSane showcased well across the board with solid body control for the class and budding athleticism. A compact, 5-foot-10, 170 pounder - LaSane reached a peak exit velocity of 92.1 mph. An efficient path highlights a mechanically sound right-handed swing, and LaSane showed solid overall actions for the class in his workout at shortstop.

Hunter Mason 3B / RHP / Sullivan High School, IN / 2027

Terre Haute Preseason ID

+ Mason is a '27 RHH that has shown advanced bat strength. Peaking at 97.7 mph last fall, the 5-foot-11, 185 pound third baseman shows above average bat speed to pair an above average arm for the age, while batting .345 as a freshman for Sullivan with seven doubles.

Landon Garrett RHP / Kouts, IN / 2026

Great Lakes Preseason ID

+ We haven't seen Garrett at showcase since the Fall of 2023, where he showed promise with a loose arm, quirky but controlled operation, and lanky frame. Registering for this event at 6-foot-2, 175 pounds - it would not surprise me to see Garrett show at least above average stuff to pair with the deceptive look, and he enters 2025 as a potential breakout candidate for a Kouts' team looking to make a run.

Ethan Glassman SS / RHP / Chesterton, IN / 2026

Great Lakes Preseason ID

+ A big-bodied, 6-foot-3, 210 pound two-way player, Glassman got on our radar at this event last year and returns in 2025. His best tool is his arm with velo gains likely on the mound compared to last summer, where he showed clean arm action, in an easy, short-strided delivery at our Top Prospect Games. He doubles as a left-side infielder that has bat strength from the right-side of the dish, reaching a peak exit velocity of 95.4 mph at last years' event.

Myles Jones RHP / 3B / Concord Community High School, IN / 2026

Northern Indiana Preseason ID

+ Jones is a northern Indiana arm that has steadily improved his game as his 6-foot-2, 190 pound frame fills out. He will show some sink on a fastball that reaches 84, along with offering two solid offspeed offerings. His breaking ball works in the mid-70s with sweeper properties, while he kills spin on his upper-70s change that plays with heavy arm-side break. The frame, coupled with above average arm speed, makes Myles a velo jump candidate during 2025.

Caden Hackett C / 3B / Chesterton Senior High School, IN / 2027

Great Lakes Preseason ID

Gideon Harris SS / OF / Silver Creek High School, IN / 2028

Southern Indiana Preseason ID
