On National Signing Day, the University of Arkansas-Little Rock (UALR) was able to sign two Top 50 arms in Indiana’s 2013 class.  There are multiple ties to the Midwest on the Trojan’s coaching staff, including head coach Scott Norwood who began his coaching stint at the University of Indianapolis where he spent four years as an assistant to Gary Vaught.   UALR’s new assistant coach, Chris Marx, is another tie to Indiana.  Marx spent five years as the recruiting coordinator at the University of Southern Indiana, and was a major part of USI’s 2010 Division II National Championship.

The first and highest ranked Indiana player heading to Little Rock is the No. 25 ranked prospect, Cory Malcolm, a senior RHP/SS from Elkhart Central.   Malcolm’s future will more than likely be on the mound as the right-handed pitcher was seen as high as 90 mph this summer.   He has an athletic build at 6-foot, 190 pounds, and will look to help lead Elkhart Central to a 4A state championship this spring.

The second signing is New Albany’s Garrett Sherrell, a 6-foot-4 righty currently ranked No.49 in the 2013 class. It is hard not to fall in love with Sherrell when you first see him. He is a strong athletic kid that we saw up to 86-87 mph this summer, but is rumored to have been as high as 90 mph.   He is still raw on the mound, but the upside leads you to believe he could be a special pitcher by the time his career is finished at UALR.
