Castle Run Rules Evansville Central 16-2

By Ben Grossberg

Evansville – Castle traveled to Evansville Central on Wednesday night for what turned out to be a rout. Castle's offense was sharp all night, taking advantage of any mistake Central made, putting the game away fairly early.

The runs started in the first inning with Castle bringing around five players to score. Matt Bertram brought in Jeff Wetzler with a RBI groundout and Ben Bunch followed that with a RBI single bringing in Korbin Williams. Two walks loaded the bases and Central looked like they would get out of it with a fly ball into left. The ball was dropped allowing all three base runners to score giving Castle a 5-0 lead.

Central answered back with a pair of runs of their own in the bottom of the first. Will Ray doubled into the right center field gap scoring Andrew Coffman from first and Grant Buckley doubled in Ray one batter later, cutting the deficit to 5-2.

Those two runs would be all that Castle starter Trevor Mullikin would allow. After the Buckley double, Mullikin set down the next ten batters in order. He went four innings to get the win allowing just three hits and two runs, walking none and striking out one.

In the second Castle sent 13 batters to the plate and put nine more runs on the scoreboard. Bertram drew a bases loaded walk to bring in the first run and Bunch brought in the next run with a sacrifice fly. With two outs Mullikin helped himself with a RBI single off the pitcher’s glove. Larkin Heldt then singled in two runs and Wetzler doubled in two more runs. University of Evansville commit Williams then crushed a ball over the dead center field fence to extend the lead to 14-2.

Castle would add two more in the third with a RBI groundout from Jackson Stierwalt and another RBI single from Heldt.

Korbin Williams finished the day 4-4 with two RBI, Jeff Wetzler was 2-3 with two RBI, and Larkin Heldt was 2-3 with three RBI.
