Coop's Scoop: Standouts from Canes Scout Weekend

Canes Scout Weekend was held on October 1-2 at Grand Park and featured 300+ players from multiple states and Canes teams. Players were able to showcase their tools during a showcase workout and also participate in multiple games throughout the weekend. Today, we take a look at some of the standout players from the Canes Scout Weekend:

Mason Barth, SS/RHP, 2025, Andrean HS (IN), Canes Midwest
Barth is one of the top uncommitted players in Indiana’s ‘25 class, putting together a huge weekend at Canes Scout Weekend. The uber-physical, 5-foot-9, 190 pounder put together very impressive measurables in the showcase, running an event-best 6.74 60, reaching a max exit velocity of 98.8 mph, and showing one of the strongest infield arms of the event at 84 mph. To go along with loud showcase numbers, Barth continues to show his ability to consistently perform in-game. The 2022 Future Gamer had multiple XBHs on the weekend, created havoc on the basepaths, and showed advanced range in the INF to go along with soft hands and next-level footwork. 

 

Cole Burton, RHP/3B, 2024, Washington HS (IL), Canes Central Illinois
Burton stood out on both sides of the ball at Canes Scout Weekend. The stocky, 5-foot-9, 180 pounder first stood out on the mound, sitting 83-86 T 87 mph on his fastball. Burton has a slow-tempo delivery with quick, compact arm action that allows his fastball to jump on hitters. Burton also showed command for his 67-69 mph CB and his 75-78 mph CH to keep hitters off balance. On Sunday, Burton showed the ability to handle the bat, putting together solid AB’s against a couple quality arms. The left-handed hitter has a short, quick swing and showed barrel strength by hitting an opposite field 2B that came off the bat at 95 mph. 

 

Colt Dehart, RHP/OF/1B, 2026, Indian Creek HS (IN), Canes Midwest
A legitimate two-way prospect with a high upside. Dehart has an uber-projectable, 6-foot-2, 165 pound frame that has plenty of room to add size and strength. He showed a tick up in velocity at Canes Scout Weekend, where his fastball was up to 84 mph with a low-effort level. Dehart has a clean, slight-crossfire delivery and showed good feel for a tight, 66-69 mph breaking ball. As a position player, Dehart has an intriguing profile. The RH thrower/ LH hitter shows the ability to play multiple OF positions, as well as 1B, and projects to be at least an above-average runner. At the dish, Dehart has a balanced swing with an efficient barrel turn that gets him on plane early.

 

Jaden Fauske, C/INF, 2025, Nazareth Academy (IL), Canes Midwest
A Top 5 player in Illinois’ 2025 class, Fauske was one of the top bats at the event, making loud contact in multiple trips to the dish. The Louisville recruit has a smooth, balanced left-handed swing that stays in the zone for a long time, producing easy bat speed. An athletic, 6-foot-2, 182 pounder, Fauske has the ability to play in the middle of the infield and behind the dish, showing good arm strength from both positions.

 

Michael Fliss, RHP, 2024, North Central HS (IN), Canes Indiana
Fliss had a breakout weekend at Canes Scout Weekend, showing a major tick up in velocity, sitting 82-86 touching 88 mph multiple times on his fastball. The long, lanky 6-foot-5, 195 pounder has a quick, efficient delivery with a loose, ¾ arm slot. Fliss showed an 11/5, 67-70 mph CB (2400+ spin) with really good shape, producing multiple S/Ms in his outing. 

 

Carter Hall, OF/1B, 2024, Park Tudor HS (IN), Canes Indiana
Hall seemed to catch a barrel every time he stepped to the dish at Canes Scout Weekend. The strong, 6-foot-2, 195 pounder had multiple XBH’s on the weekend, showing the ability to hit for power to all parts of the field. Hall uses a toe-tap stride, stays behind the ball, and has efficient rotational movements. He also showed good arm strength in the showcase portion, producing an 87 mph OF velocity and 85 mph INF velocity.

 

Paddy Keefer, RHP, 2024, Mishawaka Marian HS (IN), Canes Great Lakes
An athletic, 6-foot, 180 pounder. Keefer was impressive on the mound, showing a major tick up in velocity compared to a look late this summer. Keefer sat 82-85 T 87 mph on his fastball. Keefer has a long, whippy arm action with an efficient lower half. He showed the ability to command the zone with a 3-pitch mix, also showing a 69-72 mph breaking ball and a 72-76 mph changeup. 

 

Patrick Mendiola, C/INF, 2023, Belleville East HS (IL), Canes Illinois
Mendiola made major noise in the showcase portion of the Canes Scout Weekend, with the top Catcher Velocity (80 mph), the top Pop Times (1.86-1.97), and a top-5 exit velocity (99.7 mph). The St. Louis recruit has a small, compact load with a simple swing. He uses the ground well to produce explosive bat speed. Physical, 5-foot-9, 185 pounder. 

 

Aidan Micinski, RHP/INF, 2025, South Bend Adams (IN), Canes Great Lakes
A high follow arm in the 2025 class. Long, lanky 6-foot-1, 150 pounder. Micinski has a clean, easy delivery to go along with a quick, whippy arm that gets good extension out front. He sits 81-83 mph on his fastball currently, but expect a velo jump from Micinski as he adds strength and size. Micinski showed an 11/5, 67-70 mph CB with good depth and feel to land it in the zone. 

 

Jake Mulvehill, LHP/OF, 2024, South Bend Adams (IN), Canes Great Lakes
Mulvehill continues to trend in the right direction, impressing on the mound at Canes Scout Weekend. The 6-foot, 185 pound southpaw sat 82-85 mph on his fastball. He shows good balance throughout the delivery, pitching from a high ¾ arm slot. A strike-thrower, Mulvehill kept hitters off balance with a fading, 74-76 mph changeup that he commanded to the armside, and a slurvey, 67-70 mph breaking ball. 

 

Jax Racht, RHP/3B, 2026, Niles HS (MI), Canes Great Lakes
Racht stood out on the mound with advanced arm strength for a 2026, sitting 83-85 mph on his fastball. Strong, 6-foot-2, 180 pounder with a thick lower half and quick, compact arm action. Flashed a developing breaking ball at 63-65 mph. High follow in the 2026 class.

 

Micah Rienstra-Kiracofe, OF/RHP, 2024, North Central HS (IN), Canes Midwest
Long, athletic 6-foot-1, 175 pounder. Rienstra-Kiracofe was a top performer in the showcase portion of Canes Scout Weekend, with Top-10 performances in the 60 yard dash (6.97), OF Velocity (86 mph), and Exit Velocity (97.4 mph). His strong showcase performance carried over into gameplay, where he had multiple hits and stolen bases. Rienstra-Kiracofe hits from a tall stance, using a short stride and a level bat path, with twitchy bat speed. 

Kyle Sams, RHP, 2024, Union County HS (IN), Canes Ohio
Standing at 6-foot-4, 220 pounds, Sams immediately passes the eye test and shows good presence on the mound. He sat 84-86 mph, showing good ride to the fastball (2300-2400 spin) and producing lots of S/M. Sams showed good command on the fastball, commanding it to both sides of the plate. He also showed a short, tight 71-73 mph slider. He uses a drop-and-drive delivery with a clean arm swing, pitching from a high ¾ arm slot. 

 

Landon Sarkey, LHP/OF, 2025, Hanover Central HS (IN), Canes Midwest
Legitimate two-way prospect that stood out all weekend at Canes Scout Weekend. The athletic, 5-foot-10, 165 pounder had the top OF velocity of the event (91 mph) and continued to show his arm strength in his outing on the mound, where the southpaw sat 81-84 T 85 mph on his fastball. Sarkey uses a slow-tempo delivery with quick arm speed, also showing the ability to command a 1/7, 68-70 mph curveball. At the plate, the left-handed hitter has a small, compact load with a short stride and fast hands. Sarkey’s simple approach allowed him to be on the barrel all weekend, producing loud contact in multiple AB’s. 

 

Noah Spalding, RHP/3B, 2026, Marion County HS (KY), Canes Midwest
6-foot-2, 180 pounder with loads of potential. Spalding’s outing on the mound was impressive to say the least, sitting 84-87 T 88 mph with slight cut on his fastball. He has a loose, quick arm that gets to extension out front, allowing the ball to jump out of his hand. Spalding shows good feel for a big breaking ball at 67-69 mph that could develop into a future-plus pitch. He also shows promise as a potential two-way prospect. At the dish, Spalding has a big barrel tip, producing advanced bat speed, and a pullside approach. He shows solid actions in the infield with big arm strength across the diamond. 

 

Kaiden Williams, RHP/OF, 2024, West Aurora HS (IL), Canes Illinois
Williams stood out on the mound, showing a super high ceiling. Long, projectable 6-foot-4, 170 pound frame. Williams has long arms and a high-waist, with plenty of room to continue to add size and strength. He uses a low-effort delivery with quick, compact arm action that produces a fastball at 85-88 mph. High follow in the 2024 class with velocity left in the tank.

 

Tristan Wilson, RHP, 2025, North Central HS (IN), Canes Midwest
Wilson showed a tick up in velocity at the Canes Scout Weekend, sitting 84-88 T 89 mph on his fastball. The 6-foot-1, 200 pounder uses a drop-and-drive delivery with quick arm speed from a ¾ arm slot. The arm slot allows Wilson to produce good run on his fastball, leading to multiple ground balls and weak contact in this look. Wilson has a short, tight 72-76 mph slider that has continued to improve throughout multiple looks in 2022. 

 

Rhys Wolf, RHP/OF, 2026, Martinsville HS (IN), Canes Midwest
One of the most impressive performances of the week, Wolf was electric in his outing on the mound at Canes Scout Weekend. The 6-foot, 170 pounder has an athletic delivery with compact arm action and electric arm speed. Wolf sat 84-87 T 88 mph on his fastball with slight cut. He showed a wipeout, 73 mph CB (2400+ spin) that he commanded at will. Wolf flashed an advanced CH at 78 mph. Wolf continues to improve on the mound and his arm speed and pitchability makes him one of the top prospects that we’ve seen in Indiana’s young 2026 class.

Eli Bennett, OF/1B, 2025, Cathedral HS (IN), Canes Midwest
Indiana recruit. 6-foot-3, 200 pounder with next-level bat speed. Stood out with an in-game HR that got out in a hurry, 100 mph off the bat.

 

Caulin Brown, C, 2024, Fishers (IN), Canes Midwest
Strong, 5-foot-10, 180 pound backstop. Had multiple XBH’s on the weekend in gameplay. Top pop time of 2.02. 2022 Future Gamer.

 

Will Coleman, LHP/OF, 2025, Castle HS (IN), Canes Midwest
Lanky, 6-foot, 160 pounder. High pitchability southpaw that ran his fastball up to 83 mph. Advanced CH at 71-73 mph. Clean arm action, plenty of velo left in the tank.

 

Cameron Ekberg, LHP, 2023, West Carrolton HS (OH), Canes Ohio
Athletic, 5-foot-10, 150 pound southpaw. Athletic mover down the mound with a quick, clean arm that was up to 82 mph on his fastball.

 

Andrew Gallegos, 1B/3B, 2023, Naperville Central HS (IL), Canes Illinois
Top exit velocity of the event at 102.7 mph. Strong, 6-foot-2, 200 pound frame. Some arm strength across the diamond (82 mph).

 

MJ Green, OF/2B, 2024, Wyoming HS (OH), Canes Ohio
Athletic, 5-foot-9, 150 pounder. Second-best 60 yard dash of the event at 6.94. 

 

Harrison Haq, RHP/1B, 2026, Penn HS (IN), Canes Great Lakes
Projectable, 6-foot-2, 175 pounder. Efficient mover down the mound that ran his fastball up to 82 mph. Good follow in the 2026 class. 

 

Cole Hundt, INF, 2025, Mishawaka Marian HS (IN), Canes Great Lakes
Strong, 6-foot, 205 pound LHH infielder. Solid bat-to-ball skills with a simple stroke. Hundt showed the ability to play multiple infield spots throughout the weekend.

 

Will Loftus, C, 2024, Brebeuf Jesuit HS (IN), Canes Indiana
Physical, 5-foot-11, 197 pound frame. Produced an exit velocity of 100.9 mph in the showcase portion and hit a 2B in gameplay that came off the bat at 98 mph. 77 mph arm from the crouch that produced a top pop time of 1.94.

 

Gavin Meyer, RHP/1B, 2025, Illiana Christian HS (IN), Canes Midwest
Projectable, 6-foot-5, 193 pounder. Ran his fastball up to 85 mph with cutting action. Showed feel for a 70-73 mph CB.

 

Carter Orner, RHP, 2024, Plainfield HS (IN), Canes Indiana
Projectable, 6-foot-6, 200 pounder. Ran his fastball up to 83 mph with good ride. Works from a high ¾ arm slot and showcased a 3-pitch mix. Plenty of velo left in the tank.

 

Colin Ryder, 1B/LHP, 2024, St. Charles North HS (IL), Canes Illinois
Long, projectable 6-foot-6, 225 pounder. Produced a max exit velocity of 101.8 mph and showed arms strength across the diamond (83 mph). 

 

Cole Strick, 1B/LHP, 2025, East Noble HS (IN), Canes Great Lakes
Strong, 6-foot-2, 190 pounder. Short, simple LH swing, stays inside the ball with a line drive approach. Ran his fastball up to 83 mph. Good follow in the 2025 class. 

 

Conner Vander Luitgaren, RHP, 2024, Center Grove HS (IN), Canes Midwest
Athletic, 6-foot, 170 pounder. Ran his fastball up to 86 mph with solid fastball command. Flashed a 69-71 mph breaking ball with depth.

 

Anthony Valenza, 1B/RHP, 2023, Plainfield North HS (IL), Canes Illinois
Sturdy, 6-foot-2, 245lb frame. Produced a max exit velocity of 97.4 mph in the showcase. Multiple XBH’s throughout the weekend, including a 429 foot homerun that left his bat at 99 mph. 

 

Pernell Whitsett, RHP/INF, 2024, Ft. Wayne Northrop HS (IN), Canes Midwest
Physical, 6-foot-1, 190 pounder. Event-best INF velocity of 88 mph. Impressed on the mound, sitting 83-85 mph on his fastball and showing a 70-71 mph CB with good depth.
