Ft. Wayne Winter Preview: Outfield Analysis

On Saturday, February 28th, we hosted the Ft. Wayne Winter Preview Showcase at Norwell High School in Ossian, IN.  A total of 51 players were in attendance.  Below we analyze the 14 outfielders from the event.

Top Ranked Outfielders

1. Matt Anderson, OF, Homestead HS, 2017:  6-foot-3, 185 pounds, ran a 6.87/60, bats right, throws right. Great first step quickness and takes good routes to fly balls and ground balls. Above average hands in the field with a clean exchange.  Athletic actions.  Throws 88 mph from the outfield from a short, high ¾ arm action with accuracy. Hits from an open stance with a short stride (slight leg kick). Minimal load,  good use of the lower half.  Level swing plane. Projects hit for average with some power.  Possesses bat speed, exit velocity of 87 mph.

2. Carson Wright, OF, Huntington North HS, 2017:  A 5-foot-10, 150 pound sophomore ran a 6.96-60, bats left, throws right.  Took good routes to the ball and throws were on target with carry (80-81 mph) from a long, high ¾ arm action.  Showcased good hands, fluid feet and athletic actions.  Plays through the ball. Offensively hits from a narrow, crouch setup.  Hard contact hitter with a short, uphill swing path that creates extension through contact. Recorded a high exit velo of 81 mph.

Jacob Anderson, OF, Munster HS, 2018
:
6-foot-2, 160 pounds, 8.01-60, bats right, throws right. Tall, lanky with room to fill out. Athletic player with upside.  From the outfield he has sure hands and most throws where on target from a long, ¾ arm action (79 mph). Hits from an athletic setup with a smooth load back.  Showcased some bat speed with a good approach. Long path to the ball, gets to extension.  Gap to gap potential.  77 mph exit velocity. 

Andrew Boshears,  OF, Seymour HS, 2018: 5-foot-10, 160 pounder ran a 7.20-60, bats right, throws right.  From the outfield showcased average actions and plays through the baseball.  Short, high ¾ arm action up to 82 mph.  Hits from an open setup, using a long stride.  Simple swing, short path to the ball.  Line drive type hitter with good balance.  Recorded a high exit velo of 83 mph. 

Luke Campbell, OF, Mishawaka HS, 2017: 5-foot-9, 160 pounds, 7.22/60. Possesses some athleticism.  Long ¾ arm thrower with average arm strength (80 mph) and average hands, quick feet and takes good paths to the ball. Clean exchange.  Stands tall in the box, slightly closed setup.  Slight drop in his hands at load, average bat speed with good extension through contact.  Short stride, average use of the lower half.  Simple swing, line drive type hitter. Recorded a high exit velo of 76 mph.  

Dylan Cater, OF, FW Snider HS, 2016:  6-foot-0, 175 pounder ran a 7.62-60, bats right, throws right. Strong, athletic frame.uy.   Showcased a long high ¾ arm action from the OF with accuracy at 76.  Slow actions, clean exchange.  Offensively he hits in a balance stance with an open front foot.  Very little load and a short stride (leg kick), bat drags through the zone, has a tendency to want to pull every pitch.  High exit velo of 74 mph.  

Kory Goodrich, OF, Huntington North HS:  6-foot-2, 190 pounds, 7.50/60, bats right, throws right. Athletic frame with a strong lower body and wide shoulders. Throws 82 mph from the outfield and on target with carry.  Average feet.  Needs to quicken up the exchange and play through the ball more.  Hits from a balanced stance with a slight drop at load, short stride and long path.  Quick bat speed (89 mph exit velo). 

Zach Kintz, OF, Norwell HS, 2016:  5-foot-11, 170 pounds, ran 6.93-60, bats right, throws right. Solid outfielder that has the speed and the arm (81 mph) to play all three outfield positions. All throws have carry and are on target. Hits from a balanced stance with a smooth load, long stride and explosive hips. He generates fast bat speed (88 mph exit speed) with a short level path to the ball and extension through contact. Line drive/gap to gap type hitter.

Zach Lane, OF, East Noble HS, 2017: 6-foot-1, 150 pounder, bats left, throws left.  Defensively he takes good routes.  Clean exchange, plays through the ball well.  Long arm action up to 80 mph with accuracy. Offensively, hits from a balanced stance with a short stride, average bat speed ( 78 mph exit speed) with a level path to contact. 

Corbin Maddox, OF, Daleville HS, 2017: 5-foot-10, 185 pounder ran a 7.06-60, bats right, throws right, Athletic player with a long ¾ throwing motion, average carry and clean exchange, took good routes to the ball.  Needs to improve foot speed. Plays through the baseball. Hits from a balanced stance with a long stride and average bat speed (83 mph exit speed) gap type hitter.

Austin Mitchell, OF, Decatur Central HS, 2018:  5-foot-9, 134 pounder ran a 7.25-60, bats switch and throws left.   A switch hitter that hits from a crouch with a short stride and a short path to the ball with good extension through contact. Recorded an exit velo of 81 mph. From the outfield he took good routes to the ball, throws were 75 mph and on target. Arm action is short.  

Koltan Moore, OF,  Bluffton HS, 2018: 5-foot-8, 145 pounds, 7.39-60, bats left, throws left.  Defensively showcased average hands and plays through the baseball well.  Tendency to field the ball deep.  Long, ¾ arm action up to 76.   Athletic hitter with a good feel for the strike zone.  Active load back, short stride, hips explode generating good bat speed (80 mph exit speed) with a short level path to contact. Line drive type hitter.  

Brody Myers, OF, Norwell HS, 2016: 5-foot-11, 185 pounds, ran a 7.44-60, bats right, throws right. Strong athletic player that can play multiple positions. Throws 77 mph from the outfield, on target with average carry. Arm action is long, average hands and fluid footwork. Hits in an open stance with a short stride and generates some bat speed (85 mph exit speed). Line drive hitter with gap potential.  

LaMonte Richardson, OF, Beech Grove HS, 2016:  5-foot-7, 175 pounder ran a 6.93-60, bats right/throws right. Athletic player with a strong lower body. Short arm thrower (79-81 mph from the outfield), with average carry.   Actions are raw defensively.  Hits in an athletic stance with a short stride and a short path to the ball, average bat speed (80 mph exit speed) Pull hitter.
