Indiana Scouting Staff

4/14/22 Andrean vs. Boone Grove
By Gene Kolarik

Garrett Benko Andrean - Uncommitted 2023 RHP. Tall, athletic 6-foot 3 195 pound frame. Started the night on the mound for Andrean. Works from a drop and drive delivery, compact arm action, ¾ arm slot. Maintains a soft front leg through finish. Good tempo on the mound.  Fastball worked at 81-83 T84, it was tough to get any more velo due to 50 mph wind gusts. CB produced a lot of swing and misses, 67-69. 6 K’s in 3 scoreless innings of work. Expect to see more velo come with better weather.

Peyton Niksch Andrean - 2022 Purdue Northwest commit. Twitchy, quick 6-foot 170 pound OF. Starts in a tall, upright stance. Utilizes a high leg kick and drop of hands to get loaded. Patient approach at the plate, level swing path. Line Drive hitter, drove a ball into the LCF gap where he showed off his speed stretching it into a 3B. 2 BB on the night, also stole two bases for the 59ers.

Mason Barth Andrean - Uncommitted 2025 INF/RHP, Strong 5-foot 9, 175 pound frame. Barth came on to close out the ball game for the 59ers. Barth worked quick with demanding tempo on the mound. Painted the corners with his fastball working at 81-84, showed off a solid 12-6 CB with late bite. Long arm action, works from a high ¾ release. Drop and drive delivery, finishes upright. Expect more velo with better weather as-well. Played 3B before coming into pitch for the 59ers, went 1-1 at the plate with an infield single. Good follow.

Jax Kalemba Andrean - Purdue Northwest commit. 5-foot 7, 175 pound frame. Primary Catcher, strong lower half. Took massive swings at pitches all night long. Got ahold of one pitch and drove it out to CF. Sets up in a balanced slightly open stance, uses a big leg kick while drifting into his stride. Drop of hands to get into his load. Average bat speed but powerful lower half can hit to any field. Finished the night 2-3 with a 1B and HR.

4/15/22 New Albany at Jasper
By Cooper Trinkle

Connor Foley, RHP/3B, Jasper HS, 2022
Indiana signee. The physical, 6-foot-5, 225 pounder was dominant on the mound, striking out 10 in 6 IP, allowing just 3 H, 2 BB, and 1 ER. Calm, poised presence on the mound. The 6’5 righty showed a repeatable delivery with consistent tempo, a tall balance point, and pitched from an over-the-top arm angle. Foley sat 88-91 mph with his FB, touching 92 in the 1st. He showed the ability to command his fastball to both sides of the plate, as well as elevating it to put hitters away late in counts. Against RHH’s, Foley mainly used a downer-type, 71-75 mph CB as his go-to off-speed pitch. This pitch had good action down in the zone, however he had a tendency to miss up. He also showed good command of an 82-84 mph CH, that was used predominantly against LHHs. The CH showed some arm-side run and he threw it with good arm-speed. Foley helped his own cause at the plate, finishing the night 1 for 3 with 3 RBIs and a BB. His 3 RBIs were on a 2nd inning, line drive HR that got out in a hurry. Foley hit from a tall, athletic stance with a short stride and simple load, getting good separation at heel-strike. Plus bat speed from the physical RHH.

Chris Hedinger, OF, Jasper HS, 2022
Athletic, 6-foot-2, 195 pound build. The Olney Central CC commit had a huge night for Jasper, going 3 for 4 with 5 RBIs, 2 Rs, and 2 HR’s. Hedinger hit from a balanced setup, with a small leg lift, and a small, rhythmic load. Strong lower half, gets to extension in the swing. Good bat speed, handled velocity well. Average runner

.

Kody Morton, INF, Jasper HS, 2022
Athletic, 5-foot-10, 180 pound frame. Morton was a tablesetter for Jasper, reaching base in all 4 of his trips to the plate. The 2-hole hitter for the “Wildcats” finished his night 3 for 3 with a BB, scoring 3 Rs. Morton hit with a high handset and showed simple movements at the plate. Quick hands. Handled velocity well. Showed quick feet and sure hands in the infield. Danville Area CC commit.

Drew Bradley, C, Jasper HS, 2023
Uncommitted 2023. Sturdy, 6-foot-1, 200 pound Catcher. Bradley hit from a balanced, slightly crouched stance. Simple swing with some barrel strength. Finished the night 2 for 4 with a 2B to his opposite field gap, 3 RBIs on the night. Showed some flexibility in his setup behind the dish. Reliable blocker. Above average arm strength behind the dish.

Andrew Clements, 1B/OF, New Albany HS, 2022
Strong, 6-foot, 195 pound frame. Thick lower half. The New Albany “3-hole” hitter produced New Albany’s only run of the night, with a loud HR to dead CF. Uses a balanced, crouched stance with a short stride and minimal movements in his hands. Gets to a good spot at heel-strike. Strong hands, good bat speed, uphill bat path. Mount St. Joseph Commit.
