Hoosier Holiday Showcase: Top 10 Pitchers

Below we analyze the top 10 arms from the December 15th Hoosier Holiday Showcase at Trinity Ball Park's indoor facility in Noblesville, Indiana.

Top 10

1. Nicholas Handlon, RHP, Avon HS, 2015: 6-foot, 185 pound junior throws from a high ¾ slot.  Long, lanky frame.  Over the head pump delivery, repeatable.  Possesses a short, quick arm action.  Fastball sat 82-83 mph with some downward movement.  Breaking ball shows an 11/5 shape with a sharp action and late life at 71-73 mph.  Changeup shows some fade at 73-76.

2. Mitchell Garrity, LHP, Perry Meridian, 2016: 5-foot-11, 175 pound sophomore is athletic with a good arm.  Throws from a ¾ slot.  Delivery is slow and deliberate and lands slightly open.  Arm action is long and loose.  Fastball sat 79-81 with slight downward movement.  Breaking ball shows an 11/5 shape at 65 mph.  Changeup is 66 mph.  Overall possesses good athleticism and is a high follow in the 2016 class.  Potential 2-way player at the next level. 

3. Mitch Ubelhor, RHP, Avon HS, 2016: 6-foot-1, 175 pound sophomore possess a strong lower half.  Slight inward turn in his delivery.  Works at a good pace and lands open.  Fastball was 81-83 mph and consistently in the strike zone.  Breaking ball was 67-70 mph.  Changeup was his best pitch, showing good sink and arm speed.  Good follow in the 2016 class. 

4. Nathanial Bye, RHP, Western Boone HS, 2016: 6-foot, 160 pound sophomore shows good pace and rhythm within his delivery.  Throws from a high ¾ slot with a quick, loose arm action.  Fastball shows occasional run and late life at 80-81 mph.  63-66 mph breaking ball shows good spin with an inconsistent shape.  Changeup is still a work in progress at 70-72 mph. 

5. Blake Walker, RHP, Cathedral HS, 2016: 6-foot-4, 195 pound sophomore possesses a projectable frame with a quick arm.  Throws from a ¾ slot with easy effort.  Fastball was 77-79 with run.  Breaking ball shows good downward action at 66-67 mph.  Lacks feel with the changeup which sat 62-63.  Highly projectable 2016 RHP.  

6. Josh Hart, RHP, Center Grove HS, 2015: 6-foot-1, 195 pound junior shows a violent delivery with lots of movement with his head.  Fastball maintains its plane at 82-83 mph.  Breaking ball shows an inconsistent shape at 64-66 mph.  Changeup was 70-73 mph with good arm side run.  Projects more as a hitter at the next level.

7. Robbie Strader, RHP, Roncalli HS, 2016: 6-foot, 165 pound sophomore  shows a slight inward turn in his delivery.  Throws from a high ¾ slot with a loose arm action.  At the showcase sat 75-78 with his fastball, but was up to 81 mph at a showcase this past summer.  Breaking ball shows late life with an 11/5 shape.  Changeup displayed some arm side run with good arm speed.  Good overall athleticism and high follow in 2016 class.  Expect an increase in velo in the near future.  

8. Matt Olovich, RHP, Guerin Catholic HS, 2017: 5-foot-8, 150 pound freshman possesses a solid frame.  High elbows within delivery.  Throws from a high ¾ slot with a loose, quick arm action.  Low leg kick.  Fastball is straight, but shows life at 75-78.  Both offspeed pitches show good movement, but slows his arm down and changes his arm slot.  High follow in 2017 class.

9. Adam Neal, RHP, Cathedral HS, 2015: 6-foot, 175 pound junior was 78-79 mph with his fastball and showed more run than it did at previous events.  Delivery is slow and deliberate with easy effort.  Throws from a high ¾ slot.  Breaking ball shows improvement with better action at 67-68 mph.  Changeup shows more arm side run than it did at previous events. 

10. Nathan Williams, LHP, Hamilton Southeastern HS, 2016: 6-foot, 180 pound sophomore possesses an athletic frame with good strength.  Shows an overhead pump in his delivery.  Throws from a high ¾ slot with a quick, loose arm action.  Works closed.  Fastball sat 75-76 on a downward plane, but was erratic in the zone.  Displays good arm speed with his changeup.  Changeup was 64-66 with some sink.  Throws a split at 61-63 mph.
