Indiana Wesleyan Unsigned Senior Showcase Results: Best of the Rest



On February 20th, Prep Baseball Report Indiana hosted the Unsigned Senior Showcase at Indiana Wesleyan University in Marion, Indiana.  The event consisted of 37 unsigned seniors and 1 sophomore from Indiana, Illinois, Ohio, and even Canada.  Below is a list of the “Best of the Rest” prospects from the showcase.

Ross Barker, 3B/1B, Riverside Secondary HS (Canada):  Barker is a 6-foot-5 inch, 200 pound senior from Riverside Secondary HS in Canada.  Barker shows a tall, lanky build with a good glove.  Across the diamond he is 77 mph.  He projects to be more of a first baseman.  At the plate Barker shows a wide, strong base with good balance.  His swing plane is up hill and gets to extension well producing some pop.

Adam Brown, 2B/3B, Delta HS:  Brown is a 5-foot-9 inch, 175 pound senior from Fremont HS.  Brown was 73 mph across the diamond and shows quick hands.  At the plate he shows a good approach and the ability to use all fields.

John Burns, 1B, Lawrence North HS:  Burns is a 6-foot, 215 pound senior from Lawrence North HS. Burns shows the ability to pick it and is solid around the bag at first.  At the plate he shows good bat speed with pop.  Burns shows the ability to hit for power up the middle and to left.

Tanner Butler, RHP/3B, Lincoln Stockton HS:  Butler is a 6-foot-2 inch, 185 pound senior from Linton Stockton HS.   On the mound her shows a high stiff leg kick and works with a slow delivery. His fastball is 79-81. He also throws a slurve breaking ball that shows good rotation and breaks early. He throws a developing changeup at 75-77.  In the field Butler shows a strong arm across the diamond at 80 mph along with a good glove.

Agustin Castellanos, OF/LHP, Fenton HS (IL): Castellanos is a 5-foot-8 inch, 160 pound senior Fenton HS in Illinois. Castellanos has a slow deliberate delivery that shows good balance throughout with good timing. His fastball works 75-78.   His breaking ball shows potential with good spin and sits at 67-70.  Castellanos’ best pitch was his circle change-up. It shows good arm side run combined with good arm action (71-73).  From the outfield he was 78 mph and shows good actions and athleticism. 

Roman Castellanos, 1B/OF, Fenton HS (IL):  Castellanos is a 5-foot-10 inch, 200 pound senior from Fenton HS in Illinois.  He shows a strong, athletic build.  At first he shows good athleticism with good defensive actions and a glove that works.  Across the diamond he is 74 mph.   At the plate Castellanos  hits from the left side and shows a good approach and stays balanced throughout his swing.  With his natural strength he possesses power potential.

Jacob Doan, OF, Perry Meridian HS:  Doan is a 5-foot-9 inch, 150 pound senior from Perry Meridian HS.  Doan shows good speed running a 6.94 sixty.  From the outfield he shows an accurate arm at 76 mph.  At the plate from the left side he shows a wide base with an uphill swing plane.  His front side is stiff, but shows the ability to make good contact.

Bryan Espiritu, RHP/OF, Culver Military Academy:  Espiritu is a 5-foot-10 inch, 180 pound senior from Culver Military Academy.  From the outfield he shows a strong, accurate arm from a low ¾ position.  At the plate Espiritu is a little stiff but shows good strength and pop.  On the mound, Espiritu had an over the head pump delivery with a short arm circle. Espiritu showed a ¾ arm slot and was 74-77 with his fastball. He aslo displays a 63-65 mph curve ball and a 70-71 changeup.  

Grant Finlan, OF/RHP, Heritage Christian HS:  Finlan is a 6-foot-2 inch, 175 pound senior from Heritage Christian HS.  From the outfield he shows a strong accurate arm at 86 mph.  At the plate Finlan displays a wide base with a toe tap.  He gets to extension well, barreling up most balls.  He shows good pop to the right side.

Jacob Florek, RHP/OF, Western HS:  Florek is a 6-foot-3 inch, 205 pound senior from Western HS in Kokomo. Jacob is a strong bodied pitcher that works with an over the top short circled arm action. His delivery is slow but his timing is okay. He throws three pitches including a fastball 79-81. A developing breaking ball at 64-67 and a circle change up that shows potential arm side run at 67-69.  In the outfield Florek shows good arm strength at 81 mph.  At the plate he shows a squatting stance with good hands.  Florek is a natural pull hitter with power potential.

Chance Fuller, C/1B, Jay County HS:  Fuller is a 6-foot-2 inch, 175 pound senior from Jay County HS.  Behind the plate Fuller was 73 mph and displays good accuracy.  His best pop time at the event was a 2.21.  At the plate Fuller shows an upright stance with a toe tap.  He’s a natural pull hitter with some pop potential.

Joseph Heath, RHP/OF, Leo HS:  Heath is a 6-foot-3 inch, 175 pound senior from Leo HS. Heath has a good projectable body> Heath is slow to get to balance point and works with a short arm circle back. His fastball sits 76-78. He also showed a developing breaking ball at 64-68 and a circle change 71-73.  From the outfield Heath was 77 mph, and shows good speed running a 6.99 sixty.  At the plate Heath shows an upright, open stance with some pop potential.

Matt Hoff, OF/LHP, Fremont HS:  Hoff is a 5-foot-10 inch, 164 pound senior from Fremont HS.  From the outfield Hoff shows good arm strength at 80 mph.  At the plate he shows a long swing with hands that work.

Matt Ittersagen, RHP/3B, Wheeler HS:  Ittersagen is a 6-foot-2 inch, 185 pound senior from Wheeler HS.  Ittersagen shows a tall delivery that is rotational. He threw a 4 seam  fastball to both sides of the plate at 77-80. He also showed a 61-66 mph curve ball and a 65-67 mile per hour slider that shows potential. He threw a splitter with sink at 65-68 mph.

Casey Looker, RHP/OF, Goshen HS:  Looker is a 5-foot-9 inch, 150 pound senior from Goshen HS.  On the mound his fastball was 75-78 mph.  He throws two off speed pitches; a breaking ball at 65 mph and change up at 63-65 mph. From the outfield he was 77 mph.  At the plate he displays a wide base with a long swing.

Kyle Marburger, RHP, Peru HS:  Marburger is a tall lanky projectable 6-foot-4 inch, 185 pound senior. Marburger throws with a good long arm circle. Marburger throws four pitches for a strike and body says he should produce more velocity as he continues to get stronger. Currently, Marburger’s fastball sits 78-81. He also flashed two different breaking balls both working in the 67-70 range. His slider is more projectable. Marburger’s change up showed sink to his glove side and was 75-76.

Taran Murphy, RHP/2B, Noblesville HS:  Murphy is a 5-foot-11 inch, 163 pound senior from Noblesville HS. Pn the mound, Murphy displays an over the head pump delivery with a short arm cicrcle. He displays a ¾ arm slot and works his fastball at 77-79 mph with good downward plane. Murphy throws two different breaking balls a curve ball that sits 61-65 and a developing slider he throws at 65-67 mph. Muphy also threw a splitter, his best pitch, at 70-73 mph.

Andrew Nuce, MIF/OF, Daleville HS:  Nuce is a 5-foot-8 inch, 145 pound senior from Daleville HS.  Nuce was 77 across the diamond and projects as a second baseman.  His glove works and shows good footwork.  At the plate he uses a toe tap and is a good contact hitter. 

Jordan Parker, OF/RHP, Richmond HS:  Parker is a 5-foot-8 inch, 156 pound senior from Richmond HS.  From the outfield Parker shows good arm strength at 81 mph.  At the plate shows a quiet load with a good swing plane and good hands. On the mound, Parker works with an over the top arm action. He works quickly and despite his size still gets a good downward plane on his fastball. (76-78MPH) Parker also shows a slurve with good break at 63-67, and a developing change up at 71-73.

Kyle Pitlick, OF/C, Castle HS:  Pitlick is a 5-foot-8 inch, 165 pound senior from Castle HS.  From the outfield Pitlick was 71 mph.  He plays through the ball well and displays good use of his lower half.  At the plate he shows a balanced approach with quick hands.  Pitlick shows good speed running a 6.9 sixty.

Taylor Rademacher, OF/SS, Seeger Memorial HS:  Rademacher is a 6-foot, 160 pound senior from Seeger Memorial HS.  From the outfield he is 78 mph and shows good accuracy.  At the plate he displays a closed stance with a quiet, simple swing.  He makes good contact with some pop.

Justin Segers, 3B/RHP, Marion HS, 2014:  Segers is a 6-foot-1 inch, 240 pound sophomore from Marion HS.  From 3B Segers shows a good glove and the ability to pick it.  At the plate he shows good hands with a long swing.  He shows the ability to turn on the ball well and hit for some power. Segers projects more as a hitter but on the mound his fastball was 69-73. His splitter was 69-73 and he also showed a 56-58 curve ball and a 63-65 changeup.

Andrew Smith, 3B/IF, Fremont HS:  Smith is a 5-foot-6 inch, 180 pound senior from Fremont HS.  Smith was 71 mph across the diamond.  He displays good hands and picks it well.  At the plate he shows an open stance with a level swing plane. 

Aaron Wells, C/2B, Cowan HS:  Wells is a 6-foot-2 inch, 160 pound senior from Cowan HS.  Behind the plate he is 75 mph and popped a 2.03 at the event.  His arm is strong and accurate.  At the plate Wells shows a good set up with a smooth load.  He stays balanced throughout his swing.  His swing plane is slightly uphill and gets to extension well showing some pop potential. 

Jaylon Western, RHP/OF, Cascade HS:  Western is a 6-foot-1 inch, 175 pound senior from Cascade HS.  Western is a 2012 unsigned senior that shows a good delivery with a high leg kick and an average arm circle. He works his fastball to both sides of the plate 78-81. He also showed a slurve breaking ball that broke early at 63-65. Western also featured a straight changeup at 72-74.

Steven Wisser, LHP, South Bend Riley HS: Wisser is a 6-foot-0 inch 180 pound senior.  Wisser has a strong upper body with a good clean delivery. He throws his fastball to both sides of the plate and sat 73-78. Wisser threw two off-speed pitches a 12-6 breaking ball at 63-64 and a straight change up at 70-71.

Kyle Witlow, C, Frontier HS: Witlow is a 5-foot-7 inch, 160 pound senior from Frontier HS.  Witlow was 74 mph and popped a 2.12 pop time.  At the plate he looks to be a 2-hole hitter as he makes solid contact, shows good eye hand coordination, and has a good knowledge of the strike zone.  Witlow ran a 7.21 sixty at the event.

Kyle Yoder, RHP, Northridge HS: Yoder is a 6-foot-1 inch, 170 pound senior . Yoder shows good pitch ability with the ability to throw three pitches for a strike to both sides of the plate. His delivery is a tall to fall delivery producing a clean arm action. Yoder’s fastball was 76-77 (79 at a previous showcase). Yoder showed a 12-6 breaking ball that broke early and was 62-64. Yoder’s best pitch was a 70-71 mph changeup. Yoder flashed good arm action with arm side run.
