Inside the Recruitment: 2017 C Alec Saulman Picks Olney Central

By Phil Wade

Indiana Executive Director

Corydon Central HS catcher, Alec Saulman, recently committed to Olney Central.

PBR: Ultimately, why did you choose to commit to Olney?

Saulman: I chose Olney because I liked the scholarship they offered me, and what they can offer me in my baseball career. They have good baseball and give players chances to make it to the next level.

PBR: Where did they first see you compete?

Saulman: At the PBR Unsigned Senior Showcase.

PBR: What other schools were you considering?

Saulman: Franklin College

PBR: What were your expectations about the recruiting process? Was it as expected? Easy/Difficult?

Saulman: The recruiting process was even harder than I thought. So many schools out there and it just takes one to pick you up. It takes hard work everyday on and off the field.

PBR: What were you looking for out of a college program to continue your baseball career after HS?

Saulman: I was looking for a college that would offer me a good scholarship and someone that wins and gives players good chances to continue playing after college.

PBR: When did the recruiting process really start to heat up for you?  Was there a particular game or event you feel turned the corner for you?

Saulman: This past summer was when it really started to get going. Olney saw me at the PBR Unsigned Senior Showcase.

PBR: At what point did you realize you were a college caliber player and become serious about taking your game to the next level?

Saulman: 8th grade year and coming into high school was when I realized I had a good shot at playing in college when I started varsity as a freshman.

PBR: Who is the best player you have faced in Indiana, and why?

Saulman: I don't really know who the best player I've played against but Indiana definitely has a lot of talent in the 2017 class

PBR: What advice would you give young baseball players striving to get where you are at?

Saulman: Keep striving to get better and better everyday. Getting in the weight room to get bigger, faster, and stronger is a big part of it.

PBR: What is the most memorable moment in your baseball career to this point?

Saulman: Playing with the Indiana Prospects at the WWBA Perfect Game Championship in Fort Myers.

PBR: Preview your high school season for us.  How do you feel your team will be?  What are your expectations and goals?

Saulman: Our team will be pretty good and I feel we have a good chance to win sectionals. We have a good senior class and the underclassmen are also a big help.

PBR: Who do you play for in the summer?  What has been your most memorable experience with them?

Saulman: I play for the Indiana Prospects in the summer. My most memorable experience with them is going down to Fort Meyers last fall to play in the WWBA Championship.
