Olund, Cook, Haberkorn and Burns Pick Their School

The 2013 baseball season is winding down, which means more and more 2014s will begin to come off the board. This week saw 4 players make their college choices. Treg Haberkorn from Leo, Alec Olund from Lake Central, Hunter Cook from Pendleton Heights, and Brendan Burns from Hamilton Southeastern all decided where they will be spending the next couple of years.

Alec Olund is multi dimensional player that possesses every tool you look for in a prospect. Olund runs well, 6.8, throws well 87 from the outfield, hits for a high average, and plays the game well. Olund is capable of playing any outfield position, 3B, SS, 2B, and 1B. The thing I've heard the most about Alec Olund throughout the summer is how great of a kid he was. I think every school upped what they were originally going to offer him once they got to know him. Olund's college choice was between Indiana, Ball State, Xavier, Michigan St and Purdue. Olund eventually decided to become a Boilermaker.

Hunter Cook is a power hitting first baseman. In Cook's 2012 campaign he hit 6 homeruns with the new BBCOR bat showing his ability to hit for power. Last year Cook suffered a small decline in homeruns, but watching hi batting practice it is still very impressive to see how far Cook can hit the ball. Cook will have to slim down at the next level to handle upper end velocity, but if he can manage that look for Cook to be a powerful force for Heartland CC.

Treg Haberkorn is the kid you dream of as a scout. 6-foot-3 lean frame with athleticism. Haberkorn hits and throws from the left side, and runs really well, as high as a 6.63. At the Top Prospect work out in June Haberkorn looked like a top 10 rounder. Easily, launching balls out of Indiana University. Then proceeded to get on the mound and top out at 88. Haberkorn's tool set, while still raw, is probably the most impressive in the state. Haberkorn's college decision came down to High Point, Xavier, Cincinnati, and Campbell. Haberkorn has decided to head to Cincinnati.

Brendan Burns is one of the most projectable pitchers in the state. The 6-foot-5 right handed pitcher tops out at 88 and sits 84-87. He creates good downward plane with is long lean frame and occasionally flashes a plus breaking ball. Burns arm action is extremly clean which makes it easy to project a velocity jump in the near future. Burns has to consistently throw strikes to excel at the next level, but don't be suprised if Burns is a draft pick at some point in college. Burns college choice came down to Indiana, Xavier, Miami of OH and Ball State. Burns eventually decided on Ball State.
