PBR 14U Prospect Games: Scout Notes

Below is a compilation of scouting notes throughout the PBR 14u Prospects Games from May 5 - May 7…

Cangelosi Sparks

  • (#24) Ryan Kraft - Tall, projectable left-handed pitcher with high upside. Smooth rhythm, on-line direction. Quick, loose arm action from a high ¾ angle. Fastball, heavy action, thrown for strikes, sat 77-79 mph. Curveball, 11/5 shape, 67 mph. Offensively, left-handed hitter, slightly open setup. Above average bat speed, path works uphill.
  • (#94) Noah Jouras - Strong right-handed pitcher and infielder, athletically built. Offensively, tall, open setup, narrow feet, loose hands. Roped a line drive RBI-single to left field against Diamond Dawgz Blue. On the mound, short, over-the-top arm action, high ¾ arm slot. Fastball sat 71-72 mph, arm-side run, commanded the zone. Curveball, 11/5 shape, 65 mph.
  • (#3) Luke Sefcik - Lean, wiry-framed right-handed hitting multi-positional prospect. Offensively, balanced setup, slightly open, flashed loose hands.   
  • (#41) Landen Looper - Athletically-built right-handed pitcher. On the mound, athletic arm action from a high ¾ slot. Confident, smooth rhythm in delivery and stays on-line with home plate. Fastball, kept down in the zone, 79-81 mph, touching 82. Curveball, 11/5 shape, 69-70 mph.
  • (#22) Ben Stoner  - Athletically built SS/RHP. Defensively, showed range to both sides. Throws had accuracy and carry across the diamond. Offensively, line drive approach, some looseness in swing, path stays level through the zone. On the mound, long, loose arm action. Fastball sat 73-75 mph. Curveball, sweep action, 66 mph.

Cangelosi Sparks White  

  • (#1) Jared Comia - Lanky, athletic left-handed hitting outfielder. Hits from an open setup with loose hands. Simple, easy swing, ball jumps off his barrel at times and uses the whole field. Hit an opposite field home run and a double off the left-field wall on Sunday. Defensively, long, easy strides in the outfield, covers ground well in center field.

  • (#2) Connor Christian - Athletic left-handed hitting catcher. Batted leadoff, open, athletic setup, carries a presence in the box, ran 4.97 home to first. Behind the plate showed a short arm action, slight hook.
  • (#22) Julian Jimenez - Left-handed hitting two-way prospect. Offensively, long, easy swing, ball jumps off the bat. Against Demarini Gold collected four RBIs, courtesy of a single up the middle and a double down the left field line. Consistently barreled the ball up throughout the entire weekend. Ran a 4.68 on the turn.
  • (#23) Matt Maloney - Middle infielder and right-handed pitcher. On the mound, clean, long, loose arm action, over-the-top arm slot, some quickness. Fastball sat 74-75 mph. Curveball featured 12/6 shape. Hit a grand slam down the left field line against Top Tier National.
  • (#4) Ryan Moerman - Right-handed two-way prospect. On the mound, short, quick arm action, fastball sat 77-78 mph. Offensively, hits from a balanced setup, slight crouch and open. Flashed bat speed with the ability to find barrel.  Hit a homerun to left-center and had a walk-off RBI single. Defensively, played shortstop, smooth defender, natural infield actions, accurate, athletic arm action.
  • (#13) Trent Garrett - Corner infielder and right-handed pitcher. Offensively, open setup, smooth rhythm, strides towards third base. Confident at the plate, swings aggressively.
  • (#99) Brendan McQuillan - Right-handed pitcher with some projectability. Drop and drive delivery, in line direction with an athletic finish. Short arm action from a high ¾ angle. Above average arm speed. Fastball, thrown for strikes, sat 74-77 mph

Chicago White Sox Ace Smoke

  • (#58) Tyler Fullman  - Strong, physically advanced RHP/3B. On the mound, short, quick arm action from a high ¾ angle, easy effort. Stays in line with a square landing. Fastball,  has arm-side run, sat 80-83 mph. Flashed a tight 11/5 curveball.  
  • (#40) Noah Smith   - Lanky, athletic shortstop with plenty of room for physical development. Defensively, has fluid footwork and soft hands. Throws had accuracy and carry across the infield. Offensively, balanced setup with a smooth load. Flashed bat speed with a level path. On the mound, short arm action from a high ¾ angle. Toe lands closed. Fastball sat 74-76 mph.
  • (#57) Steve Sanderson - Strong right-handed hitting OF/1B with power potential. Offensively, hits from an open setup with a slight load. Above average bat speed with an uphill path. Hit two homeruns in one game.

Crystal Lake Cardinals Blue  

  • (#5) Dominic Guzman - Right-handed pitcher, works from low ¾ arm slot, quick arm action, lands toe-closed, works across his body. Fastball, run and sink action, 73-74 mph. Curveball, slurve action, 59-60 mph. Showed good feel for both pitches.
  • (#30) Kyle Washington - Athletic right-handed pitcher and shortstop. On the mound, long, loose, slight stab arm action, high ¾ arm slot, works on a downward plane, fast rhythm. Fastball, flashed sink, 73-75 mph, touching 77. Curveball, 11/5 shape, showed some feel for, gained confidence as game went on. Offensively, athletic, balanced setup, leg kick timing-trigger, loose hands. Hit a homerun against Lou Collier A’s.
  • (#77) Matt Porter - Athletically-framed two-way prospect. On the mound, left-handed pitcher, short, quick arm action. Fastball sat 74-75 mph. Offensively, open setup, loose hands, aggressive approach. Speed down the line, beat out an infield single. Aggressive on the basepaths, multiple stolen bases.
  • (#15) Brady Young - Strong, athletic shortstop. Fields deep, strong arm across the infield with accuracy. On the mound, right-handed pitcher with some projectability. Short arm action from a high ¾ angle. Falls of to the first base side. Fastball sat 73-76 mph. Curveball, 61 mph.
  • (#99) Ethan Manaois -  Athletic catcher, long, clean arm action, accurate on throws moves well behind the plate, confident receiver, soft hands, recorded pop times of 2.36 and 2.44 in between innings.
  • (#3) Ryan Gregorio -  Athletic right-handed pitcher, long, loose arm action, repeats delivery. Fastball sat 71 mph with arm-side run. Curveball worked in at 61-62 mph.

Diamond Dawgz Navy

  • (#3) Eric Orloff - Left-handed pitcher with an average frame. Works from a high ¾ arm slot with a smooth rhythm. Crossfire delivery. Fastball sat 69-72 mph. Curveball, sweep action, gradual break, 55-56 mph.
  • (#32) Sava Dupor - Right-handed pitcher and middle infielder. On the mound, works from a ¾ arm slot, efficient motion and delivery. Fastball sat 69-71 mph, mostly straight, consistently around the zone. Curveball, 11/5 shape, good feel for, 60-62 mph.  
  • (#6) Ryan Kaestle - Lanky, right-handed pitcher, worked from a ¾ arm slot, clean, loose arm action, finishes athletically. Fastball, run action, 73-76 mph. Curveball, 11/5 shape, near fastball arm speed, 60 mph.
  • (#9) George Korompilas - Athletic, strong legs, left-handed hitting first baseman. Offensively, short, quick swing, generates bat speed, had multiple multi-base hits on the weekend. Showed off advanced speed and aggression on the basepaths.  

Hammerheads

  • (#47) Holder Cyette - Right-handed pitcher with some projectability. Long arm action from a high ¾ angle. High shoulders, stays in line. Fastball, thrown for strikes,  sat 74-75 mph.

Lou Collier A's                 

  • (#13) Isaac Cordero - Athletic, long, lean right-handed pitcher and catcher. On the mound, long arm action, over-the-top arm slot, works fast, on-line. Fastball sat 66-67 mph. Curveball, 11/5 shape, 55-56 mph. Confident in both pitches, showed good feel. Athletic behind the plate and out of the crouch, strong wrist, sticks the ball, flexible in his movements.
  • (#44) Emmanuel Scott - Wiry right-handed hitting catcher with room for physical development. Ran a 7.45 laser-timed 60 in between games. Offensively, has above average bat speed for his age, looseness in swing. Double off the wall in left-center field. Behind the plate, showed an accurate arm and fluid footwork. 2.23 pop time in game.
  • (#1) Joshua Aguiniga - Athletic right-handed hitting infielder. Ran a 7.56 laser-timed 60. Hits from a slightly open setup. Showed above average bat speed for his age, pull-side approach. Hit a long homerun to left-field. Athletic arm action with carry from the outfield.
  • (#3) Gallien Coupet - Athletic shortstop, smooth arm actions, clean hands. Offensively, balanced setup, slight crouch, smooth rhythm. Walked and doubled with a stolen base against Crystal Lake Cardinals.

Slammers Coyote

  • (#19) Jackson Pearre  -  Athletic, lanky right-handed two-way prospect. On the mound, athletic arm action, ¾ arm slot. Fastball sat 72-74 mph, touching 75, with run, not afraid to go inside. Offensively, open, crouching setup, aggressive at the plate.
  • (#12) Connor Lockwood -  Wiry-framed right-handed pitcher, showed pitchability. Short arm action, ¾ arm slot, works on-line, finishes athletically, fields his position well. Fastball, run and sink action, 68 mph. Curveball, 12/6 shape, late action, 58-59 mph. Has an idea of what he wants to do.
  • (#15) Flinn Martin - Tall, projectable right-handed pitcher. Stays in line, athletic finish. Short arm action from a high ¾ angle. Ability to throw strikes. Fastball sat 70-72 mph. Offensively, balanced setup, aggressive approach, not afraid to hack it.
  • (#28)  Gavin Bennett  - C/RHP with an average frame. On the mound, works with some rhythm, stays in line, lands slightly open. Long arm action from a high ¾ angle. Fastball sat 68-71 mph. Curveball, 59 mph.

St Charles Saints

  • (#7) Kyle Hayes - Strong, athletic right-handed hitting catcher. Hits from a balanced setup with a slight load. Present bat speed, path works short through the zone, has an advanced approach, knows what he wants and waits for it.Hit a long home run to center field off good pitching. Defensively, quiet receiver with strong hands. 2.22 pop time in between innings.
  • (#8) Justin Richa - Right-handed pitcher and two-hole hitter. On the mound, over-the-top arm slot, works across his body. Fastball sat 72-73 mph, commanded the zone. Curveball, 12/6 shape, gradual break, 58 mph.
  • (#5) Joshua Beaman - Left-handed hitting leadoff man for St. Charles. Hits from a crouched, slightly open setup. Advanced runner for his age.
  • (#20) Kevin White  - Right-handed pitcher with a tall, lean frame. Arm works short from a high ¾ angle. Fastball sat 71-74 mph. Also showed an 11/5 curveball with gradual action.

Team Demarini Illinois Black

  • (#44) Anthony Myers - Athletically built right-handed pitcher. Long arm action from a ¾ angle. In line direction, square finish. Fastball sat 69-71 mph. Showed off athletic arm actions in the field.

Top Tier Nationals

  • (#45) Blake Hickey - Right-handed pitcher, short arm action, high ¾ arm slot, lands toe-closed, works towards third base. Fastball, arm-side run, 67-70 mph. Curveball, 11/5 shape, late break, good feel, 59-61 mph.
  • (#00) Michael Rivera - Athletic shortstop, showed good range in the field, making numerous backhanded plays in the hole at shortstop, athletic arm actions across the diamond with carry.

Top Tier Navy

  • (#42) Vytas Valincius - High follow in the 2021 class. HIghly advanced frame, physical, imposing figure with athleticism. Played third base and also pitched. Offensively, right-handed hitter, imposing presence in the box, open, balanced setup, loose, rhythmic hands, aggressive approach, present bat speed. Put on a power display at the plate over the weekend mashing multiple home runs. Defensively, has soft hands and ranges well for his size. On the mound, athletic, quick arm action, high ¾ arm slot. Fastball, flashed cut action, 80-82 mph in multiple appearances. Curveball, 11/5 shape, 68-71 mph. Flashed a quick jump move pick-off to first.
  • (#8) John Zimmermann - Athletic left-handed pitcher and right-handed hitter. High upside on the mound. Simple, repeatable delivery, short, clean arm action, high ¾ arm slot. Throws a high volume of strikes. Fastball, arm-side run, 75-77 mph. Curveball, 10/4 shape, depth, 59-63 mph. Offensively, pull hitter, hit multiple doubles to the left-side of the field.
  • (#36) Jack Bruington - Strong left/left, two-way prospect. At first base showed off quick feet and soft hands. Offensively, owns the box, tall, open setup, high hands, short, simple swing, lift in swing. Hit a two-run homerun to right field on Sunday. On the mound, clean, quick arm action, stays on-line. Fastball sat 75-77 mph.
  • (#23) Brian Rapanan - Athletic middle infielder. Defensively showed off quick footwork, soft, clean hands, athletic arm action, made a nice backhanded play in the hole, throwing the runner out with time to spare. Offensively, open setup, stays open, short, quick swing. Patient at the plate, drawing multiple walks.
  • (#1) Giovanni Herrera - Lanky, right-handed infielder. Offensively, gets on the plate, trusts his hands, showed good situational awareness, hitting behind the runner on an RBI single. In the field, showed off an athletic arm across the diamond.
  • (#18) Will Arnasen - Right-handed hitting first baseman with a solid lower half. In the field, soft hands, clean footwork and feel around the first base bag. Offensively, balanced setup, high hands, short, simple swing. Path stays level through the zone, line-drive approach, uses the whole field with the ability to backspin the baseball.
  • (#7) Nate Brinker - Strong, athletic two-way prospect, ultra competitive. Offensively, right-handed, raw power, hit multiple home runs over the weekend. Behind the plate, showed arm strength, pop times in between innings 2.51 and 2.54. On the mound, throws strikes with 74-77 mph fastball, touching 78. Pitched six shutout innings on Sunday, closing out the semi-final game, and going five scoreless in the championship. Attacks in all facets of the game.
  • (#2) Kyle Mack   - Athletically built RHP. Drop and drive delivery, stays in line. Arm works short from a high ¾ angle. Fastball, arm-side run, 71-74 mph. Curveball, 64 mph.

White Sox Elite

  • (#15) Alex Calarco - Right-handed hitter with a tall, lean projectable frame. Offensively, present bat speed, displayed power potential with two long home runs. Hits from a slightly open setup. High follow 2021 hitter.
  • (#12) Grant Comstock - Lanky, projectable RHP. On the mound, long arm action from a high ¾ angle. Easy effort throughout. Fastball sat 70-74 mph. Curveball, 11/5 shape, 65 mph.
  • (#45) Adam Dowler - Tall, physical left-handed hitter. Offensively, hits from a tall setup with a slight load. Path works uphill with some strength through contact. On the mound, left-handed pitcher with some projectability. In line direction, falls off the third base. Short arm action from a high ¾ angle. Fastball, sat 72-74 mph. Curveball, 1/7 shape, 64-66 mph.
