PBR talks with Olney Central commit Evan Mohr

Evan Mohr is a 6'4, 215 lb. right handed pitcher and third baseman from Lapel High School that recently committed to play baseball at Olney Central College next year. On the mound Mohr has four pitches that he can throw for a strike, with his fastball sitting in the low to mid 80s. He shows a curveball at 62-65 mph with good movement and a 67-71 mph slider. At the plate he shows good pop to the left side and up the middle. PBR had the chance to talk with him about his commitment and his expectations for next season..
PBR: Why did you choose Olney Central?
Evan: I chose Olney Central because I like Coach Conley, and his coaching staff. I felt that a smaller school was the right fit for me at this time. Also that it is close enough that my family can come watch me play, but it’s far enough away that I can be on my own.
PBR: What other schools were you considering?
Evan: ISU, Radford, and Vincennes.
PBR: Where did Olney Central first see you compete?
Evan: At a showcase at Roundtripper.
PBR: What role do the coaches expect you to play during your first year on campus?
Evan: They expect me to compete for a starting spot in their pitching rotation, and also compete for a spot at third.
PBR: What is your biggest strength as a player and how do you feel that will help Olney Central?
Evan: I believe that pitching is my biggest strength. I worked really hard this offseason and during the summer tuning up some of my mechanics and strengthening my arm. I also added a slider that I think will help me a lot, not only this year in high school, but at the next level as well. The coaches at Olney believe that I will be able to go in as a freshman and help give them depth in the pitching staff, also in the middle of the lineup.
PBR: Who has had the biggest impact on you as a baseball player?
Evan: I would have to say my parents have been the biggest influence on me as a baseball player. My mom and dad have driven me all over going to different showcases and playing in different tournaments. Without them driving me all around and always being there for me and believing in me I don’t think I would be in the position I am today.
PBR: What were your expectations about recruiting heading into the summer?
Evan: I expected things to kind of pick up after summer ball ended and they did. I also wanted to be signed before the winter workouts started for high school baseball, so that I could focus on my senior season and enjoy my senior year and I accomplished that.
PBR: Who is the toughest pitcher you have faced in Indiana?
Evan: I would have to say the toughest pitcher I faced would have to be Madison Foster from Park Tudor.
PBR: What are your goals both individually and for the team going into your senior season?
Evan: I accomplished the only individual goal I had for this year and that was to sign to play college baseball. All the other accolades are just the icing on the cake. Our goal as a tram this year is to win conference and sectionals and I believe we have the talent to achieve both of those goals.
PBR: What were your stats last season for HS?
Evan: Batting - .415, 27 hits, 4 2B, 2 3B, 1 HR, 23 RBI
