2014 Best of the Rest Pitchers

Hunter Abrams, RHP, Martinsville, 2014

Slender build that works in a quick pace. At times lower half works quicker than the arm causing it to drag at times. Works from a ¾ arm action that shows some whip. Fastball showed some cut action at 75-77. Breaking ball is a 11/5 with early action. Changeup shows arm side run at 68-69 and was best pitch.

Thomas Barbara, RHP, Bishop Chatard HS, 2014

6-foot-3, 175 pounds with a long lanky projectable frame.  Decent tempo with slight pause at balance point. ¾ arm action tops out at 77. Works around breaking ball causing more of a sweep action. Change up slows arm speed with some run topping out at 65-67.  

Duncan Boone, RHP, Concord HS, 2014

Steps into his delivery, little choppy... Throws from an over the top arm action with good downward plane. Fastball tops out at 81. Gets around his breaking ball and was inconsistent but when on top shows signs to be an above average 12/6. Change up was 78.

Nick Defreese, RHP, Concord HS, 2014

6-foot-1 190 pound athletic righty. Good tempo, works over the top with good arm strength. Topped out at 84. Quick arm speed with above average off speed offerings. Breaking ball showed a 12/6 sharp bite at 72. Threw a splitter with arm side run at 72. Follow in the 2014 class.

Noah Follett, LHP, Garrett HS, 2014

6-foot-1, 175 pound lefty with good projectable body. Delivery is clean with good repeatable actions. Works at a deliberate pace. Fastball topped out at 81 and was consistently in strike zone. Follett’s best pitch was his 1/7 breaking ball which showed good rotation and was sharp in the zone. Inconsistent at times. Change up was 72-75 and needs to develop more life. Follett is a follow in the 2014 class. Shows good pitch ability and expect a velocity jump soon.

Kordell Green, RHP, Penn HS, 2014        

6-foot-4, 210 strong bodied righty. High leg kick with inward turn. Head snap throughout delivery. Arm works well in a high ¾ tops out at 84. Fastball showed downward life. Breaking ball shapes as an 11/5 with gradual bite and good arm speed topping out at 67-68. Change up showed arm side run with good arm speed as well topping out at 77.

Tanner Hampton, RHP, Rochester HS, 2014

Slender build at 5-foot-9, 155 pounds. Hampton has had tremendous success on the mound in high school. He showed why. Hampton has the ability to work down in the zone and mix speeds. While velocity is at 80-81 he does get good arm side run on his fastball. Also Hampton throws a good sharp breaking ball at 65-68. 

Alec Hassfurther, RHP, Forest Park HS, 2014

Good big bodied frame. High hands throughout delivery. Arm is a high arm action with average arm speed. Fastball is straight at 77-78. Breaking ball shows early action at 65. Hassfurther projects more as a catcher.

Pierce Hardacker, RHP, Park Tudor HS, 2014

Works quick with a long ¾ arm action. Arm is loose with good rhythm. Creates good downward plane Breaking ball is 11/5 and breaks late. Shows decent life. Change up is still a work in progress.

Andrew Herrman, RHP, Lawrence North HS, 2014

 Good repeatable delivery with some rhythm. Works over the top with a long but quick arm action. Needs to get fastball down in the zone to have success. Breaking ball was above average; tight 12/6 with sharp bite. Changeup was 73 and lacked life.

Jon Hogg, RHP, Boone Grove, 2014

Good frame; long and lanky. Works quick with a pump in the delivery. Works over front leg, arm is a high ¾ that creates good plane. Fastball has late run at 75-79 and is in the zone. Showed a 11/5 breaking ball with late action. Change was 60-65 with a stiff wrist.

Chris Howe, RHP, Avon HS, 2014

Small frame works slow through balance point and then accelerates delivery adding deception. Arm works well. Breaking ball is more of sweeping breaking with good life. Change up shows inconsistent cut and ranges from 60-64. Fastball was 78-78.

Jordan Kelly, RHP, Greenwood HS, 2014              

6-foot-4, 200 pound long limbed righty. Shows a good ¾ arm action with some whip arm speed suggests velocity jump in near future currently tops out at 81. Works predominantly out of the stretch with a slight inward turn. Delivery is repeatable and gets good extension. Breaking ball was inconsistent and lacks an identity topping out at 73. Needs to maintain arm speed on change up tops out at 73.

Zach Longnecker, RHP, Tri HS, 2014

6-foot-1, 220 pound broad shouldered righty. Slow tempo, repeatable delivery, fairly clean, works from a high ¾. Creates an average angle. Opens slightly in landing. Angle creates sink on fastball at 80-81. Breaking ball lacks identity at 76-78. Also showcased a change up at 74-76.

Brenden Kirkendall, RHP, Concord HS, 2014

6-foot-6 righty has long legs and long arms. High leg kick with good hand movement pauses at balance point. Repeats delivery for most part. Frame allows him to create good angle out of the windup. Works over the top fastball tops out at 77. Change up shows arm side run. Breaking ball was 66-69.

Drew Madden, RHP, Lawrence North HS, 2014

6-foot-1 182 pound right handed pitcher. Madden is a strong bodied righty with good arm strength topping out at 82 at the event. Although, previously we have seen Madden up to 84. Drew throws from an over the top arm action that creates a decent downward plane. He is still raw on the mound. Lands slightly open on his landing losing a little bit of torque throughout his delivery. Shows a sharp 12/6 breaking ball at 73, and a changeup that is still developing at 71-73.

Matthieu Meihls, RHP,Carroll HS, 2014

Good frame; tall long limbs. Works at a quick pace in a repeatable delivery. Works over his front leg and throws from a high arm slot. Hips open early losing some torque and velocity. Fastball has good downward plane and off speed struggled to be consistent in strike zone. Meihls projects more as a hitter.

Eric Petruzzi. Brebeuf Jesuit HS, 2014

5-foot-11, 175 pound strong athletic right handed junior. Petruzzi has a slight head snap in his drop and drive delivery but possesses arm strength. The righty works from a high ¾ arm slot at 82-83. Petruzzi’s breaking ball is a 11/5 with gradual break that tops out at 76. Petruzzi projects more as a positional player but will throw strikes and get outs at an above average level in high school.

Andrew Sparks, RHP, Plainfield HS, 2014

6-foot, 170 pound righty who recently transferred from Beech Grove to Plainfield. Sparks shows good rhythm in a repeatable delivery. High leg kick works from a ¾ arm action with good extension. Fastball tops out at 78. Breaking ball is Sparks best pitch shows sharp late action topping out at 65. Sparks also showed a slider; he gets on the side of topping out at 71. Change showed some arm side run with good arm speed topping out at 70.

Collin Timmons-, RHP, Perry Meridian HS, 2014

Great frame; long limbs. Works from a high ¾ long arm action with average arm speed. In delivery shows a slight coil and repeats his delivery. Fastball shows some run at 77-79. Off speed pitches need to maintain arm speed more but breaking ball works in an 11/5 shape with early action. Change shows some arm side run.
