The Leo High School Lions finished the 2012 season with an overall record of 25-4. Coach Dave Boyce guided his squad to a prefect 7-0 record and an Allen County Athletic Conference championship. Back to defend the title in 2013 are five starters and three pitchers.

Leading the way for the Lions is senior shortstop Jackson Boyce, an IPFW signee. Boyce batted .437 and knocked in 23 runs. Boyce was an All-State Honorable Mention selection in 2011 and 2012. The other half of the Coach Boyce’s talented double play combo is senior second baseman Trey Phillips. Phillips hit over .300, scored 37 runs, and stole 10 bases.

The pitching staff is anchored by junior Treg Haberkorn. Haberkorn was 6-1 with an impressive 2.07 ERA. Haberkorn recently attended the PBR Indiana Preseason All State Showcase where he showcased an 82-84 mph fastball.  He was even more impressive from the outfield where he was 87 mph and ran a 6.76 60.

Returning with Haberkorn is fellow junior Carter Davis. Davis, also the starting third basemen, was 2-0 and had a 2.86 ERA while also collecting 3 saves along the way. Davis is expected to carry a heavier workload this season.

Other players expected to make an impact are senior Jake Pulver (1B/OF) and juniors Luke Smitley (C/1B) and Tanner Hartman (C/OF). The Lion’s quest to repeat in 2013 as ACAC champions will be challenged by Adams Central, Garrett, and Heritage
