By Phil Wade

Director, PBR Indiana

Elijah WeartzThe No. 85 ranked prospect in Indiana's 2014 class, Elijah Weartz, recently committed to Lincoln Trail. The 6-foot-3 RHP out of Center Grove HS attended last year's Preseason All State showcase in Indianapolis where he was up to 85 mph with his fastball

The coaching staff and their strength and conditioning routines impressed me.

PBR: What other schools were you considering?

IPFW and Wabash Valley College.

PBR: Where did Lincoln Trail first see you compete?

At a showcase at Wabash College this past summer.

PBR: What do the coaches expect of you when you first arrive on campus?

To be ready to start fall baseball and be a leader on the team.

PBR: Who do you play for during the summer, and how have they helped you as a baseball player?

I played for the Indiana Bandits and the coach was very committed to helping me find a school of my choice and to be the best ballplayer I could be.

PBR: What are your goals personally this off-season?

To gain 20 lbs, increase my velocity and refine my mechanics so I can dominate my senior year of high school baseball.

PBR: What are your goals next spring both personally and as a team?

Be a leader on my team and help my team win their first state championship.

PBR: Who has had the greatest impact on you as a baseball player?

My parents first and then my pitching coach Emmitt Carney.  He has been with me since I was 12 years old!  Also my physical strength training coaches, Grant Gardis and Bill Hartman at IFAST in Indianapolis.

PBR: What is your greatest moment as a baseball player to date?

Throwing my first pitch at 90 mph.
