Scouting Report

9/13/19

+ SS Bryce Eblin (Center Grove HS, IN), an Alabama recruit, showcased his defensive prowess at shortstop where he roamed effortlessly from side to side to make some nice plays for Team Indiana. The 5-foot-10, 160-pounder bounces around the infield with a quick first step, and showcases adequate arm strength across the diamond that may allow him to stick at shortstop in Tuscaloosa.

5/11/2019 Spring Scout Blog: Alabama commit and Indiana's top 2020 took the mound against rival Roncalli over the weekend and went the distance giving up just 2 hits and striking out 5 in 6 innings of work. One of the more all-around athletic players in the class, Eblin has seen improved numbers in all facets of the game since the start of last season. On the mound the fastball showed late run action and was 87-90 touching 91 in the second inning. Fastball held 87-89 through five. Curveball was 71-75 with 11/5 shape with gradual to late break. Offensively recorded just one hit, but shows the ability to spray line drives to all the outfield gaps with occasional pull side pop. Runs very well down the line. Saw Eblin the night before at SS where he makes the routine plays confidently with a strong accurate arm across the diamond. Also made two standout plays that are not regularly seen at the high school level. Quiet, confident leader of a talented team.

3/31/2018 Spring Scout Blog: Sophomore Purdue commit continues to make strides in his game, starting to stretch and fill out athletic frame. Looks stronger than last season, continues to produce line drives and be high contact guy. High baseball IQ guy, makes the next play and gets good reads on the bases. Finished 3-6 on the day, driving a double to opposite field and hitting a pull side homerun, scoring a couple runs at the two spot in the lineup. Showed good range side to side in the field, made all the routine plays with strong accurate throws to first base.

2/24/2018: 5-foot-11, 155 pound infielder continues to impress up the middle.  Soft, smooth hands into quick transfer.  Adjustable arm angles.  Plays through the baseball.  Feet are quick, bouncy.  Throws topped 86 across.  Left-handed hitter has a balanced swing with good use of lower half.  Above average bat speed.  Level swing path, extension post-contact.  Hard contact hitter.  Fluid rhythm.  High exit velocity of 83.  Ran a 7.08 60 yard dash.  Purdue commit.

9/16/2017 PBR Fall Championships: Stands at just 5-foot-10, 140 pounds, but has continued to perform on big stages. The Purdue recruit plays aggressively and without fear. He demonstrates the ability to play the infield at a high level. A left-handed hitter, shows confidence at the plate as he does in the field. He works quickly through the zone and shows the ability to spray line drives to all fields.

6/22/2017: Uncommitted. 5-foot-10, 140-pound left-handed hitting shortstop, wiry-athletic build with plenty of room for physical development. Loose, live body type, athletic actions in all phases of the game. Relaxed, confident approach in the box, slightly open setup, excellent pre-pitch rhythm and balance, highly athletic hands, generates easy bat speed. Had an impressive at-bat against a hard-throwing left-handed pitcher in which he fouled off at least a half-dozen pitches before drawing a walk. Defensively, moves with fluidity and ease to both sides, shows natural infield actions and arm strength across the infield. High-level follow in the 2020 class.

6/13/2017:  5-foot-10, 140 pound infielder displayed soft hands with a quick release up the middle. Plays through the ball with athleticism.  Short, quick arm action.  Throws topped at 82 across infield.  Offensively, left-handed hitter has open setup with leg kick as hands load back.  Smooth rhythm.  Uphill path with consistent hard contact.  Average bat speed with room to increase as he fills in.  High exit velocity of 84.  Elbow ran a 7.32 laser-timed 60yd dash.

2017 Spring Scout Blog:  Young, athletic shortstop played with good instincts and had an advanced approach at the plate. The 5'10", 145 pound freshman was solid defensively, displaying above average arm strength for his age across the diamond, delivering accurate throws with carry. Hands work out in front of body to field, exchange is clean and fluid. Stands a little tall and upright to throw. Game sped up on him a couple times, got caught flat footed and on heels, and will need to continue working on getting rid of the baseball quicker. Good range laterally to backhand and up the middle. Athletic setup in the batters box, slightly open to start with hands raised up slightly off the shoulder. Front leg lift to load with the hands working up and slightly back to gain separation. Front foot lands slightly open to allow lower half and barrel work. Average bat speed through the zone, more to be gained in the future, but gets the barrel to the baseball consistently. Finished swings with good extension. Middle to oppo, line drive approach at the plate. Strength and size still to gain but is a good prospect to follow in 2020 class.

4/1/2017 Game Notes: Athletic 5-foot-10, 140 pound shortstop shows advanced range and soft hands on grounders to either side. Very active in the hole with soft hands and clean exchange. Played the ball well in front of the bag with a quick release. Projectable arm speed for a 2020. Very accurate across the diamond. At the plate sets up open and balanced with slight load and taps on the stride. Average bat speed with a good approach and level path that gets to extension. Works line drives away to left-center gap. Displayed advanced baseball IQ in the field and on the bases. Interesting 2020 follow.

2/25/2017: 5-foot-10, 140 pound infielder has soft hands quick a quick transfer and release. Athletic actions up the middle with good feel for the position.  Accurate throws topped out at 77mph.  Offensively, hits from the left side with an open setup and a high back elbow.  Leg kick and hands load back.  Pivots on the front foot with partial usage of backside.  Bat path is slightly long and gets into extension well post contact.  Line drive approach.  Exit velocity topped at 81mph.
