Team Preview: Garrett Railroaders

Garrett High School, led by Coach Cisco Mireles, finished the 2012 season with a 17-12 overall record and a game over .500 in the Allen County Athletic Conference (ACAD) with a 4-3 record. Coach Mireles returns five starters, including three seniors. Three pitchers with significant experience also return to the Garrett pitching staff.

Leading the Railroaders this spring are three seniors, C Brandon Porter, OF/LHP Andrew Robinson, and SS/RHP Brett Schendel. Porter was the top run-producer in 2012, driving in 27 runs and hitting .380. Robinson batted .337 and drove in 25 runs. Schendel paced the pitching staff with a 6-3 record and 2.46 ERA.

Also returning for Coach Mireles are juniors Noah Follett (OF/LHP) and Ian Belville (INF). Follett was a key contributor on the mound posting 5-2 record with a 3.09 ERA. Follett recently attended a showcase and showed high pitchability with a 79-81mph fastball. An exciting young player poised for a breakout 2013 is sophomore 3B/RHP Dillin Diehm. Diehm has been rated as the top hitter in the 2015 class and adds a true left handed power threat to Garrett’s lineup.

A tightly contested race is expected in the ACAC as the Railroaders will clash with the defending champion Leo High School Lions and Adams Central Jets for the title.
