Training Days : Q & A with Cincinnati recruit Noah Coy

Cooper Trinkle
PBR Indiana

Training Days is aimed to be more of an informative piece, showing how some of the top players in the state of Indiana prepare for their upcoming PBR Showcase, and the upcoming high school season. Today, we caught up with Cincinnati recruit, 2024 INF Noah Coy from Center Grove High School. We discussed Noah’s offseason training, goals for the Preseason All State and high school season, a dive into his strength training, expectations for Center Grove in 2023, and more.

PBR: What does your training schedule look like during the offseason?

Coy : I lift four times a week at school, with one weekend lift as well. I also do two to three speed/explosive training sessions a week using the Vertimax and a footwork routine. We have practice after school three days a week so I hit and throw there, plus I hit additionally in the evenings and on weekends. Lastly, I do defensive training on Sundays.

PBR: What are you working on this offseason?

Coy : Since I am not playing basketball this year, I have had more time to focus on my offseason training. With my swing, I have been focusing on simplifying things in my load, maintaining good posture so I can spin the ball properly, and staying in the ground with my lower half. I hit a high velocity pitching machine three to four times a week to work on hitting velocity as well.

PBR: What has been your focus in the weight room?

Coy : I have been focusing on lower body strength, explosiveness, and flexibility. I have also been doing speed training multiple times a week. We have a great weight room program at Center Grove that we have been blessed with. A lot of what we do is based around explosive lifts such as banded deadlifts, explosive squats and lunges, jumps, banded speed bench, and cleans. I have also been focusing on my overall mobility this offseason. A couple of my offseason weight room goals are to front squat 295 pounds and power clean 265 pounds.

PBR: What are your personal goals for the upcoming season and for the Preseason All State?

Coy : For the Preseason All State, my goals are to run a 6.7 or lower in the 60 yard dash, be somewhere in the range of 87 - 90 for my infield velocity, and have my exit velocity reach into the mid - 90s. For this spring, one of my personal goals is to be on the All State team. I want to be consistent throughout the spring both offensively and defensively. I want to not just be a high on-base guy this season, but rather a run creator/producer for our team.

Q) Give us a quick preview of the 2023 Center Grove Trojans and your expectations for the season

Coy : We have a great senior group and our goal is to help them go out with a great senior season. We want to win county, sectional, and make a run in the state tournament. We have a strong returning group with a lot of varsity experience. I think we have 10 - 12 guys that will go on to play in college somewhere, including 7 current division one commits, and we have a great team culture. Our strength will be that we can play all phases of the game. We are also one of the most tight knit groups I have ever been a part of. If we can stay healthy and put it all together we can be really good and make a deep state run.
