Underclass Games: Quick Hits

The annual Indiana Underclass Games took place Tuesday, July 23rd in Bloomington, IN at Indiana University's Bart Kaufman field. 

Here we look at some of the day's highlights and stand out performances from the event.

Event Standouts
(ALPHABETICAL ORDER)

Grant Borden, a SS from Providence HS class of 2023, had a great day all around. Showed athletic actions and ability with a 7.17 60 time, has good hands and feet and is controlled in the infield. Shows knowledge of the game, has ability for the next level, makes hard plays look routine and hustled throughout the entire day. The young athletic prospect is productive and is definitely someone to keep an eye on in the next few years.

Brock Buckley is an RHP/SS from Covenant High School in the class of 2022. He showed strikeout ability, locating all his pitches low in the zone, and kept the hitters off-balance all day with more strikeouts than balls put in play. Fastball was up to 84 MPH. Showed confidence on the mound and in the field. Ran a 7.29 60. He also threw 80 mph across the diamond. He’s an interesting young prospect to follow.

Drew Culbertson is a young prospect from the class of 2023 at Center Grove High School. He is a SS who showed his arm at 79 mph. He hit well in the games and got off good swings in his at bats. Had balance and quick hands on every swing. Shows a lot of ability to grow in the upcoming years.

Daniel Cunningham is a class of 2022 RHP/OF from Carmel. In the game, had a big swing but was able to stay on time and balanced throughout. In the showcase, he ran a 7.25 60, threw 77 mph from the field and had an 89 mph exit velocity, showing that he has power ability moving forward.

Parker Dean is a class of 2022 1B/RHP from Western High School. His arm works on the bump, up to 85 MPH. In the game, showed knowledge and ability to play 1B well. He is very projectable with his size and has present strength, and he will continue growing as a player the upcoming years. Smooth right-handed swing.

Carter Dixon is a Catcher/RHP from the class of 2022 at Homestead High School. He showed the best pop time of the day at 1.96, his exit velocity was 84 and he showed good actions behind the plate by throwing 78 MPH. He showed next-level catching ability with projectability in his size. His throws were consistent and on point, and he was able to call good pitches from behind the plate with confidence. Very clean actions behind the plate throwing and receiving. Good prospect to follow for the upcoming years.

Michael Galanos is a SS/2B for Andrean High School in the class of 2021. He showed confidence in the field and at the plate, and he was able to recover very well on tough plays. In the field, he was smooth and had good positioning on ground balls, feet worked well in the field and his glove works. Showed strong knowledge of the game at SS.

Grant Dalton is a class of 2022 from Bedford North Lawrence, plays OF and 2B. He had a few hard-hit balls in the game, including a double to the wall, and showed power and ability to have a good, clean approach at the plate. Also showed a strong arm.

Sam Griffith is a class of 2022 SS/RHP from Center Grove. He ran a 7.46 60 time and threw 82 mph from short, showing that he has arm strength. He hit 79 mph off the tee. In the game, he had multiple hard-hit balls and showed smooth hands in the field.

Jake Hooker is a SS/RHP in the class of 2023 from University High School. He has a good arm for short, showed athletic ability in the field, had three hard hits in the game and a great approach throughout the day. Had a 78 mph velocity across the diamond and a 76 mph exit velocity. He was able to perform on defense and on offense throughout the entire day.

Caden Overbay is a class of 2022 C/RHP from Carmel Indiana. He ran a 7.43 60 and threw 76 mph from the infield, 82 mph from the outfield and 76 mph from behind the plate, showing that his arm can play at each position and that he has the ability to play multiple positions. Additionally, he had a 2.12 pop time and an 83 mph exit velocity, showing his ability to be a solid all-around player moving forward.

Evan Pearce is class of 2022 OF from Oak Hill. He had an aggressive, strong swing that was fluid and consistent. In the game, he showed a good approach at the plate and was able to battle and hit the ball consistently. His arm strength was at 81 mph. Registered a high exit velocity of 86 mph off the tee.

Braydon Quintana is a C/OF from Homestead High School class of 2022. He showed his athletic ability behind the plate in the game, had a consistent 2.08 pop time, showed great catching ability and a next level set up behind the plate. At the plate, had a few hard hits in the game. Shows projectability and the ability to grow as a player as he gets older.

Max Tripure is a class of 2022 RHP/OF from Floyd Central. Throughout the day, he was very efficient on the mound, threw his curveball for strikes and located his fastball well. In the showcase, he ran a 7.2 60 and threw 80 mph from the outfield. He also had an 80 mph exit velocity.

Luke Willmann is a Catcher from the class of 2022 at Wapahani High School. He showed confidence behind the plate and was very good defensively in games, clearly has knowledge for the game behind the dish. On throws to second, he's able to show consistent feet and average receiving techniques. Consistently got off good swings in the game throughout the day. 

Jack Woodard is a class of 2022 SS/2B from Westfield High School. Throughout the day, it was apparent that he had a ton of knowledge for the game. In each game, he was able to control the defense and showed off his high baseball IQ by always being in good position no matter where the ball went. At the plate, he showed athletic ability in his stance by being balanced and consistently having a clean approach.
